Has our start hoodwinked a lot of people? 10:08 - Feb 13 with 39350 viewsParlay

For me, we have simply been dining out on our first 3 games all season, which tricked a lot of people into thinking we are actually playing well.

Some startling facts....

We got MORE than 25% of our season points in those first 3 games alone.

In the rest of them we have barely been getting over a point a game - and that was with Bony in the side for the majority of the time.

We will be heavy underdogs in the next 3 of 4 games and I dont see a win coming in any of them.

If this slide isnt addressed soon, we may not have the luxury of hitting the ground running next term and then we are in a whole world of trouble if the performances remain at this level. We will barely hit 38 points.

Nobody has suggested taking them out.

But the points tally we have is quite significantly weighted towards a period of time that doesn't really suit us anymore. We play differently and have different personnel in key positions. So my question was, are people looking at the table and seeing a points tally rather than performances on the pitch.

But thanks for a reply that is on topic. One of a handful in nearly 10 pages.

Have the performances of late been good? No, not particularly. But it is always going to be a case of ups and downs during a season, especially for a club of our size and stature in this league.

We started very well and at a rate and with performance levels that, over a season for Swansea City, are not realistically sustainable. However, as I said, if decisions had been made correctly by referee's there is little denying that the points total would likely be enhanced by the amount I stated.

If that had been the case then this discussion would probably not be taking place.

I believe the reaction to the recent poor run of form has been way over the top as these runs are inevitable.

In order to get into certain realms.. you've got to be on the same level.. so I'm not on your 'level'.

So you cant explain any of the things you accused me of being then?

Thats all you had to say and we could have all filed your post under "unsubstantiated waffle" without having to go through this charade.

In answer to the OP, of course if you take out 3 wins in a row then for any club in mid table it is going to make the rest of the points tally look ordinary.

The season has to be judged as a whole, not with sections missing.

As to the points tally, if we had been on the end of correct refereeing decisions throughout the season rather than the run of appalling ones we encountered then we would quite conceivably be sitting with 6-10 points more than we have now.

As we would have finished 8th in our 2nd season if the good goal that was actually in the back of the net at brom had not been disallowed.

This is not sections missing though is it it is performance over the last 5 1/2 months

Strange you never raised this point when people were analysing the last few months of Laudrup's first season and even concatenating it with the start of the unrelated season that followed

Do you think this is just a normal down, in an up and down sequence then?

This seems to be our worst period in terms of performances, chances created, goals scored than I can remember since we got here. It doesn't seem to be performance related in terms of form, it seems like its philosophy and tactically related. We aren't playing to our strengths.

Usually when you are in a trough you sort of say "well keep doing what we are doing and we will start to win soon" but it doesnt feel that way. For me of we keep doing what we are doing then we are only ever going to get negative overall results.

I take your point about ref decisions, but that still doesnt excuse poor performances and a disassociation of what seemed to be our fundamentals for over a decade.

Yes I do think it's just a normal down in an up and down sequence. One that has been influenced hugely by the loss of Bony, Ki, Montero, Routledge and Gylfi for extended (and Bony now permanently) over the period in question.

A team of our standing cannot expect to lose 4-5 key players such as those for extended periods, pretty much all at the same time, and continue to pick up points and perform as they did previously.

But that's just my opinion based on what I see as the reality of the situation.

which was the popular theme before xmas - that in fact we were deprived of being in the top 4 by dodgy refereeing

and now the popular theme is we are lucky to be where we are (and if we take the first 3 games out of the equation should be lower mid table)

what will be the next knee jerk agenda I wonder?

Was that your opinion with the far greater injuries over a more protracted period under Laudrup because the detractors seem to think that should have made no difference at all.

Apparently he was just losing interest when he had so many games so close together that he had no time to lose interest and I imagine he would have appreciated a bit of support from the senior players that were happy to revel in the cup glory he brought to us yet could not wait to stab him in the back.
