Derby are back into plus points! It is such a credit to Wayne Rooney and his players that they are remaining positive and still picking up results. Swansea were well beaten by Fulham in midweek. They remain a little bit inconsistent in the early stages of Russell Martin’s tenure as he tries to rebuild the side, and I think they could come unstuck again here.

If goals are the target you cannot count on Korey Smith to nick a goal. His scoring record is truly abysmal. About 5 league goals in 350 games and 14 seasons. He was clean through in the play off v Barnsley and fell over.

Disagree, he was getting ridiculous stuff from game 5. Was that the Leeds away win? If not 5 then 6.
People were Cooper bashing within 6 weeks and it didn’t stop until he left.
Even now he has 7 points out of 9 and their first back to back 3 goal+ away wins since 2016… people are saying they would have done that anyway

I’m not after short term gains. I’m after long term gains, but in order for long term plans to come to fruition you need to hit short term goals. Martin isn’t hitting any.
Martin was chosen to improve the club, like all managers we appoint. He isn’t doing it so far and he needs to quickly or he may not get the chance to keep saying “it’ll come”. All managers would love that luxury, Bob Bradley must be kicking himself he didn’t say it more often. |  |

We were 2nd when we signed Gylfi on loan in January.
He improved us but not sure I would say we “needed” him as such. Dobbie was providing the link between midfield and attack, as was Pratley to be fair. Both extremely successfully.

It's Martin's choice to play one striker, with Smith and Paterson (who is doing his bit but clearly not a natural predator) behind. Whittaker's been sidelined, Joseph was sent away. Obafemi injured to no one's surprise given his record.

Some of our play is quite reminiscent of that period actually. I’d say even more when we were championship.
But we had Sinclair, who could create the odd goal needed to win the game on his own. We don’t have that equivalent.
We went through a phase of possession for possession’s sake several times under Brendan.
He changed system though the year we went up if you recall. Dobbie was pushed to 10 which made a massive difference and Borini made a difference as well. Plus we’d grabbed enough wins due to Sinclair.
I found Piroe disappointing today. Didn’t control the ball on a couple of occasions in the box. The continued choice of Cullen mystifies me and the creative spark just isn’t there. It’s all very pretty, but that’s about it. If we don’t have truly creative players, we have to have pace. And if we don’t have fast players to give that pace, we need to generate that instead by how quickly we move the ball. Standing on it and playing triangles without purpose isn’t owning anyone up. | | | |

Flair players are hard to find, we have two in Downes and Ntcham, but they need more direction, especially Downes. |  |
