🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 01:18 - Sep 29 with 215616 views | Dr_Parnassus | Who will be watching? First one kicks off in 24 hours time. The Democrats have pulled Joe back from his campaign trail recently to get him prepared, so hopefully it will be a decent exchange. Unfortunately they don’t seem to have great confidence as they have spent the last month looking for any dirt they can dig up so Joe can use if he gets stuck. It’s no coincidence that this vote influencing Facebook algorithm story is being shamelessly and inaccurately made into a race issue on the eve of the debates. So transparent and disingenuous, it’s a shame politics has come to this on this level where black people are being used in this way to score political points. I would be furious if I was them, but it does seem a lot of people are not falling for this one and calling it out for what it is. People finally seem to be getting wise to this political race baiting which is refreshing to see. It’s also telling that in the week of the debate they try and paint Trump as a tax evasion offender. I think that’s what they wanted the tax returns to show, they seem to have got annoyed when it turns out his tax returns were fine in accordance to what his companies profits were - but decided to run with it anyway. Any news is good news in their mind as it’s another thing Joe can use when in a tricky spot. But I hope the discussions remain political and doesn’t turn into some form of gossip peddling reality TV episode. Although I think there should be some kind of drinking game involved if it does turn that way, how many times Biden completely loses his thread of thought and blurts out “I mean, think about it...” you have to take a shot. I will be watching with great interest anyway.

🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 on 01:38 - Nov 4 by Tim_Harry | Right, for those of us who rely on the bookies and this site to work out who's going to win... Bearing in mind that the bookies are offering a super dooper 5000/1 deal for new customers on a two horse race. Who is in front at the moment? |
Too early to tell who is in front. Decent swing towards the Democrats in the last half an hour, Biden back to 1.60. Trying to work out why, may be because he is slightly ahead in Texas but that’s because the postal votes are counted first. Not sure what that is unless news has come out from Pennsylvania (which is more likely). If Pennsylvania goes to Biden then he’s a fair favourite. Until that time it’s a bit of a coin flip, slightly favouring Biden. Slightly.

Thank you. Looks like I'm not sleeping tonight! The entertainment business may have collapsed, but at least nights like tonight justify me buying a modern telly!
🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 on 01:52 - Nov 4 with 1118 views | Highjack | Early indications suggest Biden has good advantage with early votes but advantage being decimated by walk up votes. If the situation in Florida repeats itself across the country Biden will struggle.

🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 on 02:14 - Nov 4 with 1087 views | Highjack | Trump won Florida by a 1.2% margin in 2016. He’s over 3% ahead with well over 90% counted. An extra million votes on last time already. The polls had Biden 2.5% ahead there.

🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 on 02:22 - Nov 4 with 1078 views | Dr_Parnassus | Florida is over, Trump has that now. No realistic chance Biden comes back. North Carolina looks heavily Trump favoured too. Two swing states he should get there. Trump now gone favourite on the markets.

Will probably stay that way until we get final counts from a couple of key states in a weeks time. Ridiculous that you can still send off your vote today and have it count after seeing the current position. This is what may be contested should it come to it.

They had them neck and neck in Ohio, Trump is 8 (eight) percent ahead. Florida had Biden in the lead by as much as +6. They have got it consistently and completely wrong for the best part of a decade now but still the nodding dogs hang on every word they say.

It’s unbelievable. There is genuine noise for them to stop being such a big part of the election run up because quite simply they are utter nonsense. They are used as a propaganda tool as opposed to a genuine guide for how things stand. But more pertinent than that, it shows the legitimacy of the reality that in a supposed free country, people are having their views suppressed. That’s not acceptable and is an infringement of everything we as a western civilisation should be about. I have been called a piece of dirt and a racist on this thread alone. I am possibly the most inoffensive poster on this site, all for equality of all kinds... and yet even I have had this levelled at me simply because I have made my feelings clear on my political leaning (which has absolutely nothing to do with race). It’s this behaviour that has suppressed people to not want to state their feelings and this gigantic polling error yet again has exposed just how many people feel threatened and brow beaten by a social movement that has zero basis to do so.

No he doesn’t. This is a prime example of this fake nonsense that is spread. Firstly Biden is not winning, he’s a fair way behind. Trump wants to stop voting not stop counting. The voting deadline has passed. But people can still send off their votes even now and get them counted, which is something that obviously can’t happen. What Trump is legitimately worried about is that no “extra” votes turn up from here on in that have been cast after the deadline as he is so far ahead there is clearly a motive there to “add” votes that previously weren’t there.

Georgia, Michigan, winsconsin and Pens gets Trump over the 270. He’s leading in all four although Georgia may tighten.

That’s after adding up the electoral college votes of confirmed states. There’s only a few unconfirmed left and most look like they are going for Trump. It’s difficult to see where Biden will get the 47 points from without winning Pennsylvania.

🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 on 07:58 - Nov 4 with 900 views | pikeypaul | Biden still has a 31% chance of winning, but one thing is for certain if he loses they will riot and demonstrate and blame anything and everything even make up groundless accusations out of thin air, pretty much like the Remoaners in this country they do not and will not accept democracy, which tells us all exactly the types they are. I did not give Trump a chance solely on the financial hardship COVID has and will bring, however it seems some of the 🇺🇸 citizens realise the pandemic was not of Trumps making and his reaction to it was/is probably no better or worse than any other POTUS would have been. Thw Democrats total negative campaign which has 100% been to attack Trump and nothing to do with what they would do in power may come back to bite them on the backside. Anyway should be an interesting next few days whoever finally wins. OUT AFLI

Self-delusional, or what? That's as daft as me trying to claim such a title. Re the actual election, I must admit to being surprised that Trump is still in with a good chance. Great news for you, of course, but not so great for the US, which will remain more bitterly divided than ever.

What have I said that was offensive? Remember, feeling offended at hearing facts doesn’t mean I’m offensive, it means you are offended by facts. Facts are never offensive. “Still in with a good chance” is a funny line. He is heavy favourite, rightly so.

Don't know whether this is true or not, but according to Radio 4, Trump is trying to block the counting of millions of perfectly legitimate postal votes in the state of Pennsylvania. Why would he do this? And how democratic is that? If true, that's disgraceful. (Highjack, I take your point about a Biden win - it goes without saying)

just said on BBC, any votes mailed that have the Nov 3rd post mark on it or earlier will be counted in PA... FFS it could take days til they announce the result there... typical Yanks
