🇺🇸Presidential debate round 1 - “Matchday thread”🇺🇸 01:18 - Sep 29 with 224254 viewsDr_Parnassus

Who will be watching? First one kicks off in 24 hours time.

The Democrats have pulled Joe back from his campaign trail recently to get him prepared, so hopefully it will be a decent exchange.

Unfortunately they don’t seem to have great confidence as they have spent the last month looking for any dirt they can dig up so Joe can use if he gets stuck.

It’s no coincidence that this vote influencing Facebook algorithm story is being shamelessly and inaccurately made into a race issue on the eve of the debates. So transparent and disingenuous, it’s a shame politics has come to this on this level where black people are being used in this way to score political points. I would be furious if I was them, but it does seem a lot of people are not falling for this one and calling it out for what it is.

People finally seem to be getting wise to this political race baiting which is refreshing to see.

It’s also telling that in the week of the debate they try and paint Trump as a tax evasion offender. I think that’s what they wanted the tax returns to show, they seem to have got annoyed when it turns out his tax returns were fine in accordance to what his companies profits were - but decided to run with it anyway. Any news is good news in their mind as it’s another thing Joe can use when in a tricky spot.

But I hope the discussions remain political and doesn’t turn into some form of gossip peddling reality TV episode.

Although I think there should be some kind of drinking game involved if it does turn that way, how many times Biden completely loses his thread of thought and blurts out “I mean, think about it...” you have to take a shot.

I will be watching with great interest anyway.

If that’s true then I could get on board with this fraud stuff.

If it were true it would be so obviously Zimbabwean that it would be hilarious and a legal challenge would obviously win.

It isn’t true.

Wisconsin has 160,000 more votes than registered voters.

Similar situation in Michigan.

Where's this from? The current Fox news tracking has WI with approx. 3.22m votes cast with 5% to go

https://www.foxnews.com/elections/2020/general-results

There are 3.6m registered voters so the yet to be counted 5% wouldn't tally to more than that figure.

Still, as JB says above, if it's a obvious as you say it should be very simple to prove.

There are 3.7 million registered voters in Wisconsin. With over 95% of votes counted there have been 3.2 million votes cast.

If Wisconsin reported a turnout of 101% I think there would be a steward’s enquiry.

I was reading up on some of the issues in some of the States last night and was gobsmacked to read how much gerrymandering was taking place around boundaries, the attempts to disenfranchise voters and skullduggery to prevent the opposition from winning seats.

In a very polarised and tribal climate it’s difficult to know what exactly has gone on. I don’t trust Fox News or MSN, neither do I trust Trump or Biden.

Given the size of most of the constituencies both geographically, the number of eligible voters, the fact that (in most areas) they are having multiple votes on numerous issues, different States have different rules its understandable that it will take longer in some areas to complete the count than others. I’d also point out some of the polling stations were huge - not like ours.

I don’t believe that people should be allowed a postal vote on Election Day, if you want a postal vote then there should be a cut off say 2 days before and after that you vote at the polling station. I believe that Trump raised this as an issue and he’s got a point, but if the rules allow that to happen (and I understand that in some States votes with a post mark of the 3rd of November must be included in the count) then trying to get the votes ruled out is wrong. If it’s lawfully cast it has to count, and that goes both ways. Each of the States has its own “government” so can do things in its own way which doesn’t help the Federal position.

I have been involved in a couple of elections in the UK (counting votes and observing) and the processes are beyond reproach whatever anyone says and that’s the way it should be. I’d imagine most of the US election has been conducted well and that there a great deal of mischief making on both sides, but that needs to be confirmed.

It’s interesting that our Government have proposed requirements regarding ID to vote, some would argue that’s an attempt to restrict peoples ability to vote!!!

There’s a post on the other site about a judge in Texas issuing an order for a sweep of a USPS depot in Houston, from the brief look I had it seems that mail bags containing several hundred thousand votes weren’t delivered to accounting station.

Edit- rumours of unspent ballots in North Carolina as well. I don’t think 300,000 thousand would make a difference in Texas, but it may be different in NC.

It’s an absolute shambles.

Don't tell me you have joined the loonies?

That figure of registered voters in Wisconsin originated from a random Twitter account which quoted the number of registered voters back in 2018 for the midterm elections. Of course, said Twitter account failed to state that.

https://ballotpedia.org/Voter_registration

The state's website says it had 3,684,726 registered voters as of November 1st 2020. Remember, people in Wisconsin can register the day of the vote as well - so this figure is likely far higher.

https://elections.wi.gov/node/7220

It's quite frightening to see just how many people - grown adults - happily jump aboard these deliberate acts of disinformation.

It is a shambles although not sure we can crow about anything .

We've got people who will vote for a party all their lives as their family/friends do ,no matter what.

People in America either see it a working for a living or getting freebies.

Well that’s the opposite of democracy if they fundamentally change the system to ensure they stay in power.
