English booing taking the knee. 21:07 - Jun 2 with 17092 views | trampie | English people booing the gesture to support black people and racial equality tonight at M'boro, sounded like the vast majority of the English supporters as well. Should teams refuse to play England, or should England be banned from the Euros ?

English booing taking the knee. on 07:08 - Jun 13 by Minesapint | I do not believe those who choose to boo are racist. Well some may be I suppose but generally most people are anti racism. It is ironic that players making what they feel is a gesture to promote unity, equality and acceptance has resulted in so much division. Does anyone who opposes the knee, have a suggestion of an alternative way the players should make a stand? Or do you think they should simply accept the name calling, monkey noises etc as part and parcel of their well paid job? [Post edited 13 Jun 2021 7:09]

It's not really a choice of one or the other. If kneeling before a game meant that people were no longer subjected to abuse of any kind then I would be all for it. But does anyone actually believe in the year since these people have been kneeling, that abuse has decreased? I would imagine it has increased if anything. So in short, it doesn't work and if clearly riles people up for its origins and use in a political climate that is highly charged and highly divisive. People say its separate... then go on to sign off with ''BLM'' or some nonsense, immediately linking it back to the politics. That abuse would have increased not because people are more racist in this last year than they have been previously, its because it has been made a public spectacle and there are many idiots in the world that will abuse using a subject matter that gets the biggest reaction. Currently that's race. If people want to make a stand then you call out specific examples of racism and challenge them head on, not make empty gestures to invisible theories. A lot of accusations get thrown around when it comes to race, very rarely specific ones. Black managers is an obvious example, even a gentle research into that widely spread accusation and it falls apart immediately.

Your replies are always interesting Dr. I genuinely mean that and usually give me food for thought. Maybe the backlash from fans will cause a rethink but I am just interested in what other method could replace it. Yes it should be dealt with as it happens but in an ideal world, it shouldn't be happening in the first place. Schools/parents have clearly failed to educate in how abhorrent racism is..as have religious bodies and god help us, politicians. Maybe, just maybe, footballers stand a chance of just helping to land the message. I don't know. I have never suffered racial abuse personally so I can not draw on personal experience.

English booing taking the knee. on 13:24 - Jun 13 with 1643 views | Joe_bradshaw | Does taking the knee represent support for a Marxist political movement or does it simply represent a footballer making a symbolic gesture against racism? The only people who can answer that are the people who do it and no one has the right to project their interpretation of the gesture onto anyone else. When the National Front hijacked the Union flag some saw it as a symbol of fascism. That didn’t mean that someone flying the flag in their garden in Somerset was a fascist National Front supporter. It’s a personal matter and we should respect people’s decisions.

That would suggest it was widespread though if parenting or schooling was to blame. Yet it is undoubtedly very rare. How many genuinely racist people have you met in your lifetime? I’ve lived in many countries across the world in many different environments and probably wouldn’t need to even use my second hand when counting them. There is no culture of racism in the western world in 2021 (the home nations and America more specifically, where this gesture is now prevalent). There just isn’t. There are isolated incidents of racism, and it is those that need to be tackled head on as and when they surface. Anything else is empty and utterly pointless. If you asked these people who they are directing this gesture at, they wouldn’t have a clue. They would refer to the “phantom collective” again. People are more than willing to refer to the racists, yet struggle to point any out specifically. That’s modern social justice. As soon as people are made to name specifics then their point immediately looks far weaker (Kilkenny naming the Floyd incident for example - where is the evidence of any racism?... there isn’t any). It represents tokenism on a massive scale making people believe they are all anti racists. They are not. People's true beliefs lie behind the veil of hypocrisy we all wear. Holland ,with many black players did not. Does that make them less black, les discriminated against. No chance of any east European team bending though.

There are no winners. One set of people doing something they don’t understand to appease a society that also doesn’t understand it. And another set showing their displeasure at the lack of understanding shown by those doing so, while watched by people at home from a mix of people that also doesn’t understand it and others that find it all a bit ridiculous. It’s as pointless as it is bizarre. Like a 21st century warp zone. That’s 2021 for you. Just a big continuous pantomime where things are measured in boos, cheers, likes and upvotes. Well the boo boys did not win cos the players refused to be bullied, and the normal fans drowned out the boo boys with clapping. I think its pretty clear who lost.

Still no statement from Nicola or Humza Yousaf regarding the despicable hate crimes committed by a group of racist Scotland supporters yesterday. After all, this is now a crime in Scotland. I'm sure if they replaced "English" with Indians/Romanians/Poles/Pakistanis/Israelis etc, they'd all receive a knock at the door and lose their jobs upon conviction.

Of course they did. The people that wanted to boo did so and refused to be bullied by this ever increasingly strange society, the people that wanted to clap did so, the people that wanted to go on their knee did so. Everyone won, as everyone did as they liked... Yet not a single thing was achieved for anti racism. What a waste of energy all round.

This selective racism or xenophobia acceptance is very odd, I must say. I made the point regarding the Romany gypsies too that also seem fair game by the same society that recoils in horror at the drop of a hat for any fashionable causes. You either are against abusing people for their origins or you aren’t, you can pick and choose which ones are okay to be abused and which ones aren’t. The strangest period in modern history, everyone is a walking, talking, instagraming hypocrite.
