An 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman have been stabbed in London's Leicester Square.
The Metropolitan Police said they have been taken to hospital but their condition is not yet known.
A man has been arrested and is in custody.
The Met Police said in a statement posted on X: "We don't believe there are any outstanding suspects."

I noticed that the question of whether a description should have been circulated featured in some of the comment columns on the newspaper websites, with people saying there must be CCTV images in existence plus eye witness accounts. After all, issuing a description used to be pretty standard where a dangerous individual was at large.
I suspect that, given the recent spate of German stabbing cases (the Brokstedt stabbings on a train in January 2023, the Mannheim policeman killed in May 2024, the stabbing of AfD candidate Heinrich Koch in Mannheim on June 5th, and the stabbings in the Euros garden party in Magdeburg on June 15th), non-reportage of witness accounts of ID information doesn't do much good. People will just extrapolate from the earlier cases, which all involved assailants from the Middle East.
There do seem to be national differences in reportage, with German tabloids appearing to be willing to report what witnesses tell them, while the UK is closer to the Swedish approach. [Post edited 24 Aug 13:40]

Perhaps is just an attempt to control the aftermath by taking some of the heat out of the situation.
If they said straight away it was an immigrant or a Muslim then if it reflects here, there’s a chance if things kick off.
It’s a ‘home grown’ then some people don’t seem to be as bothered.
I’m not defending those from a different country, race or religion. I just worry that we’re not paying enough attention to wider issues. [Post edited 24 Aug 15:23]

There is a vibe about this one imo that is not too dissimilar to the recent murders of those children in Southport i.e. a lack of trust with widespread thinking that there is a deliberate “information vacuum” involving mainstream media silence and blatant mainstream news management .
Apparently many in Germany are now speculating that the murderer belongs to a particular religion that cannot be named, because (fact or misinformation?) those that were killed were attacked in a specific way.
The stories doing the rounds is that the victims necks were the target area’s for bladed attack in a way that is reminiscent of a certain 1,400+ years old book that cannot be named also.
Funny thing however is that this was meant to be a ‘diversity’ event, which would be rationally viewed to be vastly more a prime target for a lone wolf more inclined to support the likes of Anders Breivik than ever some supernatural deity .

We are living in absolutely insane times! Having protestors in NI forgetting about the religious divide, years of bittterness and sectarianism to unite by standing shoulder to shoulder with Red Hand and Tricolour flag on display is something that I and many would never have predicted.
And there maybe an absolute own-goal in the making, what with the likes of leading loyalist Dee Stitt being arrested, because he is vastly more likely to gain even greater widespread support along with a hardening of attitudes.

See my earlier post. The last radio news bulletin I heard said the 15 year old was not suspected of being the actual killer, but had been in contact with the killer. Other unofficial German reports say the killer had a beard. We will see.
