Well they won't last very long if they treat every game like that. If we started our time in this league playing like that, we'd have had two seasons if we were lucky. It was a breakdown between Chairman and Laudrup / Laudrup's agent. Also there were very strong rumours he was being undermined by senior players, especially Garry Monk who wasn't getting as much game time as he would have liked. We had a bit of a clique in the dressing room apparently, and the long-timers weren't happy about it.
Ultimately this all had an affect on the pitch, as the football became awful to watch. We could get up for the Europa League (but not always) but were sliding into the abyss in the PL. It felt the absolutely the right time for him to go - the vast majority were in agreement about that, but I don't recall any hounding particularly. We weren't comfortable at the time, I think we were close to the drop zone if not just in it. But I do think we'd have had a better chance to go further in the Europa League if we'd kept him.
In hindsight I wish we could role back the clock and he could have resolved his differences with the board (well, Huw Jenkins). As it's only got worse since. Monk killing the style, Jenkins c0cking up recruitment.

Laudrup is the only manager I can remember who challenged our transfer policy and let it be known through the press that he was unhappy with decisions made re: players.
This led to the old guard realising that if Laudrup won that battle they would be out the door and younger, better replacements be brought in.
It was a gift for the board who didn't want to take the risk and spend the money (as well as moving on the likes of Ash for big bucks).
A clusterf*ck of a situation.
Lauds was knifed in the back and I said it then (on another forum);
"When I find myself on holiday in a decades time (when we are in League 1) and talk football with a fellow Brit who says; 'What went wrong at Swansea City then?'...I will point to this day". |  |

Maybe the 'older' players were right to address the issues with the training (fitness being a huge issue, if I remember correctly) and other things going on!!
2. I want Jenkins out (today preferably!) but he couldn't allow what's reported (by a very respected investigative journalist) to continue.

I wheel it out because it's true.
The club knew Michu had dodgy ankles in 12/13. It's one of the reasons they spent so big on Bony the following summer, to reduce our reliance on him. Laudrup preferred MM to Wilf, and MM certainly wasn't going to refuse to play.
Christ, he was visibly limping at the end of some games that season, yet week after week he'd start whilst Wilf kicked his heels on the bench. |

I really cannot see ML going against medical advice and playing Michu. Look at the hot water Jose got into when he tried to overrrule the medics. He really was not that type of guy. Football was more of a hobby to him.
Players play with injuries and it is all done on medical advice. If Michu was insistent on playing then he would be as culpable for his ultimate downfall.
I think Michu was just one of many unfortunate instances where players have to finish their careers early. I bet that even today he would not blame ML or the medics for his downfall. |  |

So everyone was happy with Tutumlu taking a percentage of every transfer? Even when they weren’t his players?
There was a lot of disquiet on here at the time that Laudrup had stopped doing much with the players and travelling separately to matches.
We played the best football I’ve seen from a Swansea team under Laudrup but he was never going to be around for very long. Look at his record, he stays more than a couple of seasons at any club. |
It was an odd setup to be sure, but an effective one. Agents taking a cut is hardly news.
As for the rumours well they were being drip fed by the club so much if it I would take with a pinch of salt. It was all part of the plan to get ML out as Jenkins had sided with the wrong warring faction. | |

It was right at the end imo*. We lacked tempo, players looked disinterested - I vividly remember sitting through some horrible lacklustre efforts (although they'd probably be seen as a big improvement on now!). Plenty on here said it was the right time for him to go, it certainly felt it.
Monk's early performances were a breath of fresh air, starting with the win over cardiff - the tempo went up and players started to look interested again, which is what got him the longer contract.
I don't disagree with the rest though - he was undermined. A complete clusterf*ck of a period, and we've been reaping what we sowed ever since.
*although I did say at the time I thought we would have gone further in the Europa League had we kept Laudrup - whatever was going on behind the scenes, he did still managed to get more up for the Cup (last couple of group games aside, when we were flat but had already qualified) | | | |

Even Pozuelo and Canas would be an improvement over what we have now.
Since ML left only Fabianski, Siggurdson and Llorente can be considered successful
of the others I would only rate the following as having some impact:
Gomis (poorly used)
Ayew A.-good at times
Jordan Ayew-decent enough
Mawson-good potential but has a way to go
Fernandez-reasonable over the last few seasons.
