British Lions Tour Thread on 20:08 - Jun 27 by Kiwi76 | All good down here at moment with Lions tour & Americas Cup win. Getting to all 3 tests and looking forward to great night out in Wellington. Think weather may play a part though. Canes finished strong to draw with midweek Lions last night & don't think Gatland will change too much. Just hope we don't get ref playing starring role - all the b/s Gatland is spraying about is getting tiring. Test rugby is fine lines with rush defence etc but no way this A'B's team is dirty. |
Those charges on Murray's standing leg looked p nasty, and not the first time he's been targeted in such a way. Poite is reffing isn't he? Big chance he gets a bee in his bonnet about the ABs offside line

I am the founder of the Hate all Warren Gatland stands for club but I have to admit he has done a decent job on this tour. He has deflected a lot away from his players this week after a pretty bruising defeat.

Getting tiresome but media all lapping it up. You should have heared Barnes yesterday after Henderson tackle on Barrett.

Most coaches do that now to deflect attention away from the players. Hansen has done the same by saying "What he's implying is we are deliberately going out to injure somebody, and that's not the case. I guess he might be a bit desperate," - he was hardly going to come out and say they were deliberatly targetting Murray and weren't bothered whether it was by fair means or foul. NZ did seem to catch him late on a few occassions but ref chose to ignore it.

British Lions Tour Thread on 17:28 - Jun 28 with 1972 views | TGRRRSSS | Hansen is responding to whats been said of his team, not really deflecting, Warren's been at it pretty much since he arrived in NZ, thus far Media have played ball but the knives and critics (media, ex players etc) are starting to sharpen the knives for him now especially after the Hurricanes game and the Geography 6 debacle which looks ever more ridiculous. Still got time to turn it round but after Saturday we'll know whether this tour has a chance of being a success or not. Personally I think Hansen could have handled thing a bit better on his side and has been a bit too willing to indulge himself but I guess it's part of the game these days. He could have handles it better but it's pretty clear Garland's been trying to influence the refs and skewer things to his agenda all tour. [Post edited 28 Jun 2017 17:32]

Think weather is going to play a big part - rain, 40k wind & 12deg - lovely Wellington day! Laumape is going to get a first run & he could have real impact in last 20mins. British Lions Tour Thread on 11:04 - Jun 30 with 1811 views | Phildo | To cheer the lions fans up one of many lions anecdotes: Willie John McBride confessed to trashing a few hotel rooms around New Zealand in 1971, but the South African expedition three years later was the most notorious. In Port Elizabeth the sound of splintering furniture, exploding fire extinguishers and the lapping of water in the lobby brought an apoplectic hotel manager to the room of the Lions' captain. 'Mr McBride,' the manager screamed, 'your players are wrecking my hotel.' The great man sat cross- legged on his bed in his underpants, puffing on his pipe. 'Are there many dead?' he enquired. 'I've called the police,' the manager replied. 'And tell me, these police of yours,' McBride said. 'Will there be many of them?'

I thought Gatland was going to pick players based on form and merit, and yet... "It's a big game for him," Gatland said of Jones. "He was a bit disappointed with last week and how it went. He's pretty focused and pretty motivated. Normally in the past when he's had those sort of challenges he has really fronted the next game. He's trained well this week and I think he's looking forward to Saturday night." ... so he's basing this particular selection on the belief that when AWJ has an indifferent game he always plays well in the next one! (Or perhaps AWJ has some dodgy pictures of WG) Lawes should be starting with Itoje, with Henderson on the bench. Putting Farrell at inside center is daft. If Gatland wanted more inventive play than Te'o he should have put Joseph there. Realistically the only way we can beat the ABs is by beasting them off the park. But Vunipola, Faletau and AWJ have all been looking way too quite and reserved for that. ABs 25-18 Lions

Teo did what Teo does though which is second rate Sonny Boy Williams run straight rugby league lines. He murdered one try by not passing on Saturday when there were two men outside him. I am pleased they are giving Sexton and Farrell a run out but I do expect a defeat. The whole AWJ thing is just odd.

Poor kicking and/or giving the ball away as soon as we get it. Very poor so far. Still time
British Lions Tour Thread on 09:57 - Jul 1 with 1604 views | BromleyHoop | Down to 14 men and the AB's are still bossing it. The Lions just aren't that good. They've taken 30 mins of play after the sending off before they've even hinted at running the ball.

F me, what do you want, Harlem Liontrotters?? It wasn't pretty and the pens conceded were frustrating but if we didn't do it, AB's would have run in a few scores. Two excellent tries by us. At least it gives me something to do next Saturday morning. Keep smiling
British Lions Tour Thread on 11:22 - Jul 1 with 1511 views | Toast_R | The Sonny Williams Red was as clear a dismissal as you'll ever see. No one made him shoulder charge someones head so the fact they played with 14 men is their own stupidity. Plus one of the Lions tires the numbers were even for. Roll on Test no 3, should have an amazing feel to it. If the Lions cut out the ill discipline giving away needless points, it should be close. [Post edited 1 Jul 2017 11:23]

British Lions Tour Thread on 13:21 - Jul 1 with 1397 views | Phildo | Gatland manages to infuriate me in the one they win (just). Firstly Warburton was blowing out of his rear after 10 minutes. Coaches know about the fitness of the players so putting him in the test side looks like an effort to justify naming a player as captain who had been struggling for fitness and form for a long time. Secondly they finally had some impact on the bench but were slow to use it- so slow it cost a yellow and almost the game. Stander was not even brought on. As for the penalty count - do you see a Joe Schmit coached Lions (for example) being that stupid? SBW has been a great player and a very decent bloke by all accounts. But the ABs have got away with murder over the years often as a result of the pace of the game they play. Any way I must leave you now for a deep afternoon slumber induced by a morning session.
British Lions Tour Thread on 09:44 - Jul 2 with 1249 views | Hitch | Well done the Lions, to win in NZ no mean feat. Yes it pissed down which turned the game into a mistake fest and both teams lacked discipline at times but it was intense. The Lions Forwards played with a bit of mongrel and that's what they need to do. Two excellent tries by the Lions and they can now head to Auckland with a degree of confidence. Didn't Farrell kick well under pressure, and that pass for the try was excellent.
