To answer daps from earlier this tells what Martin s style was and the focus was to dominate possession
I guess as daps states I’m one of those who questioned bit all this talk of time how long do you persevere with something that isn’t working…..it didn’t after 18 months at MK Dons
The fans weren’t happy as can be seen from their forum yet many of us fans believed it was so much better despite us not getting results or goals.
what Martin has done in his wisdom is make a big tweak and mix up play a little more but yet so many refuse to see it whilst we are still playing football that is pleasing on the eye we have also introduced an element of directness and that doesn’t mean hoofball but using balls over the top and long balls rather than just pass the way to the box which if you read Martin’s interview re Plan A is what he believed in. Recently that has changed and along with it has come success long may it continue. Re Jackonary I would agree there is a lot of it on this forum based on many posters opinions we could spend hours debating that but me I prefer to stick to facts we will not all agree as we have seen and still debate abounds about Grimes showing how fans can watch the same thing but see things totally differently and will still insist they are right even when presented with data proving otherwise

Correct.
As I said, he may have got away with it in League 1 (although 19th and 13th finishes suggests he didn't really), but in the Championship - teams will absolutely punish you... and they did of course, week after week.

All well and good Vetch, what we have to understand and what none of us know is that he could have come in to our club with a different plan to what he had at the start, during and end of his time at MK Dons..... No one on this forum knows that regardless if someone claims they are right or not.
Ultimately he needed time and it was said time and time again but Martin in some people's mind had already been labelled in how he wanted his style to be and that was without argument very naive at such an early stage.... It can only be argued by someone who was not willing to give him time and had something to lose if results changed(which they have and posters have done).
Morale of the story is you can't judge and need to give people time to prove themselves... Its bad form if they prove themselves and then people have the audacity to use their success as a morale victory from a judgement they made after only a few weeks.
I have not failed to read the Plan A interview, New club, clean slate.... You can use a tenure at a former club as a guide but it can't be compared as gospel when he walks into another club, people live and learn.
If we are talking on facts, without knowing what Martin's intention was on the style of play from day and without giving him that time to implement his style, fact can't be called on him deciding to change it weeks into his time here or from the day he stepped into the club.... It was never going to implemented overnight and patience and time was needed as many said from day 1. | |

Depends which of his styles we are talking about. I have no patience with the wrong style, none and never will.
The style I wanted him to switch to however, which is this one, I am more than happy to give him time to perfect it - as long as he doesn't regress to the old one.
Thankfully some are subjective and know that time and patience only works in the right circumstances. You can have as much time and patience with me as you like and I will never be a 9 foot NBA player. | |

Potters season was a transition after getting relegated, Coopers first season was arguably the same as a new manager...last season was wasted for sure and finished with a play off final with 0 shots at goal.
This season is another transition and the most difficult one after losing some good players and no longer receiving parachute payments.
Hopefully as you say, today is a blip but I expect a season of ups and downs for sure. | |

It’s just me but I hate losing to a team just because they are more physical .
We have assembled some frail players including defenders. Manning ,Naughton are almost skeletons as compared with many forwards . They do not have the skill to compensate .
To see Bennett running down the wing was as bad as having KN trying to mark Troy Deeney, a hard man and nasty with it.
It was the same with Mitrovic.

I find it incredible and sickening to see my own fam base actually allowing Martin to do what HE alone thinks is rught NO MATTER WHAT-in the HOPE he gets it right --in the long run. And there is the key.
Russy is clever and giving us this slop to convince us to keep him ,until he decides to leave of course,by which time we could be in a nasty position .This is a very level league and anyone thinking we could not get relegated is rather misguided.
We are NOT actually looking for success at all listening to him. It is quite bizarre.

It is DrP. We dont always agree but I think we may well be amongst the more perception poster here a what Im reading constant is not right at all.
Seasoned fans,long term ones have been IMO,conned unmercifully by Martin and he ha drawn up an insurance to failure. A transition season doesn't mean you have to write a season off, in fact a transition season is very important but a transition season does need patience and understanding.
I fully understand that results are not a given and I am very patient with it all given this seasons circumstances from previous seasons. | |
