Russell Martin... Take a bow. on 08:18 - Oct 21 with 897 views | magicdaps10 | Taking stock on the first half, aside from the goal.... West Brom didn't really create any clear chances. Looks like the defensive structure is also taking place. Don't fall for the Martin learning from his mistakes, said many times before that he came in at the 12th hour with players lacking fitness.....it was going to take time rather than learning from mistakes, his style was a complete turnaround and it was never going to happen within a a handful or even arguably 2 handful of games. As said, Russell Martin take a bow.

You mention fitness. I thought towards the end of the match WBA players looked very tired and the Swans players looked very strong. Russell Martin is doing a tremendous job so far.

The same as sunday. During the 15 day rest RM has obviously got them even fitter, a total contrast to the pne second half when they were hanging out of their @rses.

Now I disagree about Martin, he is learning from mistakes because he does make mistakes. Everybody does, the bad managers never learn though. A manager who does something, can see it's wrong and change it is a far better manager than one who just persists relentlessly regardless of the outcomes. Take Mick McCarthy, 5 CB's 3 times and 3 hammerings, will he do it again? I reckon he will, if he's not sacked first. Martin's first lesson, one that he quickly adjusted was always playing tiki taka no matter what. He went more pragmatic (I think maybe the players gave hima nudge after Bristol City) and last night we saw it several times, we sucked Albion in with tiki taka then unleashed Piroe with a ball over the top. They couldn't press us because they didn't know what we were going to do and their left side of defence was slow. For pato's goal the defender was closer to the ball but he backed off, letting Pato get there first, pace is a killer and once we'd sucked the energy out of them our superior fitness showed.

We knew WBA would congest the middle, leave spaces for our wing backs. They played a stupidly high line aswell which made it relatively easy to play balls over the top of them on to Piroe who needed to time his runs. This wasn't the football we had become accustomed to last season when balls were launched into the channel for Lowe and Ayew to chase, this was a game plan, that worked perfectly against an opposition we had done our homework on.

Yes, we'd done our homework and the gameplan was done by a manager and team who clearly know their stuff and they are getting it through to the players. Those people still talking Cooper up and talking Martin down might just change their tune? Maybe it would just be better to stop going on about Cooper now? Maybe everybody should just get behind Martin and the players now because the last 2 games I think they've proved they deserve it. Constructive criticism is fair enough of course but the comparing of the two, bigging Cooper up but talking Martin down, can't that stop now?

Depends I suppose, every day I am reading people creating myths regarding Cooper. People will always be compelled to add accuracy to myths, the constant references to ''last year'' will need to stop before people stop ''bigging up'' Cooper. Putting Martin down has nothing to do with Cooper. If anyone puts Martin down then it is usually down to something he has done incorrectly, like insisting on the short game at all costs like you referred to. Since he has learned that way is not the best way and he plays more pragmatically now, it has coincided with praise heaped on him. Not to say we should stop talking about Cooper though, its an interesting topic after people entrenched themselves in the camp of hating him and him proving them wrong. Lots can be learned from that vendetta. It's not a choice of one or the other, they can both be excellent managers can't they? Praising Cooper is not a slight on Martin. Just as those praising Potter aren't doing it to criticise Martin. Cooper's plight is a fascinating one in and of its own, nothing to do with Russ... although I am sure many are desperate for the discussions to stop to forget the stuff they said. Agree with you but my view was people complaing after just a few weeks of Martin taking over. You are correct, we all make mistakes and get things wrong... Its about putting your hands up and admitting them, Martin is doing that, not everyone does that 🤠

Martin seeing sense (the sense people were talking about a few weeks in as you refer) is why he is getting praise now, don't know what you are complaining about. Well done to all of us who realised the errors early on and suggested the best way forward and well done to Russ for also then realising. I bet some still have no clue what's changed though....

Don't make a bigger fool of your self Adam! The plan was never going to be set in stone just a few weeks into his regime and his plan was always going to be a few months away at the very least.....the majority knew this and were willing to accept and see it from the start Calling out errors with Martin after coming into the job with the season upon him, players lacking fitness and putting circles into squares until he got the correct pieces in place.....lets be fair here, those who called errors then were just being unfair or just completely stupid. I will tell you what has changed, Martin has had the time to get all this in place and he deserves the plaudits as do the players not some know it all who picked on his errors just a handful of weeks into the job. The negativity has just been tiresome especially when you take the whole picture into play. State it again, Martin is now starting to get things in place and it's showing, he needed that time as plenty were saying so it's all his hard work and planning AND he deserves the plaudits without the "I told you so" follow up because he was always 100 steps ahead of you, I and Pete in Pentrehafod.

Quality young player with a huge career in front of him. It's to expected by some on here though, especially ones who are hurting over Martin turning it around. |
I doubt anyone who has been critical of Martin is hurting over turining it around....I m glad because it means I get to see my beloved Swans win instead of lose or play out a nil-nil draw. Everyine is entitled to an opinion just as those who spent time on here criticising our previous manager over the last two seasons despite the team winning and finishing with a chance of competing for promotion....I get it some didnt like the football it is possible thoses didnt see things as they were...yet this season when despite the fact we were not getting results anyone who dared to question what was happening and using data not emotion to substantiate those criticism has been met with abuse . I am such a poster and believe me I went away from the ground on Sunday walking about 3 foot off the ground as I was pleased with the win and the performance, at final whislte last night I was elated we had turned around the game and won it...I couldnt be there due to work ....I have been critical of Martin and still question his decicision to play Cabango on his wrong foot,,,,BUT I am certainly not hurting he is turning it around Im glad and long may it continue [Post edited 21 Oct 2021 17:00]

A fool of myself? Don't be so silly. We were told (you may even have been part of the gang) that this is plan A, there is no deviation, we cannot play more pragmatically and we just had to accept it. THIS way of playing is the way we were calling for that you guys said was impossible for him. Martin is now seeing what we were seeing long ago, credit to him for that, it is a huge relief. Plan A was completely unworkable. However I bet you still have no idea what has changed.... If you don't want the ''I told you so'' comments then you should relax on your myth building and trying to point the finger at those who correctly called it early. Silly. Correct, those that were critical of Martin I would imagine feel pretty vindicated for backing him to make the change others were insisting he couldn't. ''Time'' to implement the ridiculous plan A was the party line, ''he cannot adapt, nor should he'' we were told. Poppycock. Those that backed Martin to change to a more pragmatic system can hold their heads high today, those that doubted he could, and those that doubted the intentions of those posters now proven correct however need to take a lesson from this.

There were a few on here who thought the same but after last season and what followed then this season was always about transition. We are starting to see things coming together, we won't be top 10(hope I am wrong) but mid table without looking over our shoulders will hopefully give Martin and the team a sense of freedom to build on this style. Martin hasn't changed anything, only been given the time to implement his style into the team and its coming together nicely and clicked with the players.... There has been a big swing in the last few weeks and a good number of people are now on board with this Martin regime and its all down to hid hardwork on the training pitch. Its a great feeling about the place and a pride in how we are playing.... It feels like the swagger is back, something that has been missing for the last few seasons. Long may it continue 👌

You were right to, had we persisted with the initial way of playing I would dread to think where we would be now. You are also right to feel more optimistic now Russ has changed things, I was starting to think it may be an ego issue stopping it. Especially after Bristol City where the players made a stand and played this way, but after a few wobbles and reverting to type it seems he is finally learning that his way was never going to work. Good on him.

Well you were naive to think that Martin only had a Plan A in the first place, even more naive not to give him the time to see what his end game was and just label him after a few weeks in the job. Things don't just happen over night Adam and plenty were telling you to give him time and wait and see....seems that is now clicking into place and there is a great feeling in the stadium and a massive shift in favour of Martin with plenty happy to admit that they were wrong about Martin in the early weeks. The players are up to speed, fitness is up and looks like Martin is now becoming a master of the poker face.... Looks like plenty fell for the Plan A only and went for the juggler.

Where did I think Martin only had a plan A? Did you not read what I just said? It was those critical of plan A that backed him to adapt, it was those that disagreed did so because they said he couldn't. Not sure what you mean by ''things don't happen overnight''. Who said they did? I will never be a Formula One World Champion, ''things don't happen overnight'' isn't applicable to things that will never work however and it would be ludicrous for me to use it in relation to that dream. We backed Martin to change it, in the face of all those (you included) who said he couldn't. We were right.

So you didn't think he had a Plan A only! ? So there we are then, you realised that he would implement his style and get the players on board with how he wanted them to play. Why didn't you just give him that time in the first place before jumping on his back to change things when as you say it wouldn't happen overnight! I was always stating that he needed time and now you realise things don't happen overnight......make your mind up will you!

Russell Martin... Take a bow. on 11:23 - Oct 21 by magicdaps10 | And there is the issue.... You think he has adapted to a style WHEN the style was always what he was aiming for but couldn't implement it early doors due to time, fitness and players being required to be coached it. Patience was that key word all the time... Patience as it was never going to happen overnight. |
Its not an issue, it may for you as you clearly don't understand. Fitness has nothing to do with playing a mixed style, it takes more mental and physical conditioning to play 800 short passes per game. He has deviated from the initial plan and that's clear to even the blind. Patience with a system that is working is fine. Patience with a system that never will is madness... as it transpired.
