Wigan beats Reading and we're safe. Shortest route. (assuming Blackpool drops a point, also)

It's still ultimately about not being worse than Reading. Wigan can't catch us and have two wins back to back right now. So if they can beat Reading, I think we're good.

Blackpool could catch us though if they win both their games. Currently LLWLW.

No that's a lie ... we beat Stoke and all other results are irrelevant. So that's the shortest route.

Given neither Stoke nor Brizzle have anything to play for, it would be good to get something out of both games. Staying more than 3 points ahead of a relegated Reading would be a nice little bonus.

Agreed.

Millwall have to win really to keep their play off hopes alive.

Cardiff are also interesting as they have to play two games in three days, both against relegation rivals followed by Burnley away on the last game of the season.

Huddersfield also has to play two teams at the bottom: Cardiff and Reading, as well as a top two team, Sheffield United.

There are just so many permutations. I think we only need one more point though out of our last two games. Let's hope we don't screw up in both of them! In theory neither has anything else to play for but teams still like to win, so.l.

Also - and I did not think I'd be saying this prior to Norwich - we're in a great position to snatch that much coveted 16th place too.

Ah...unless I'm missing something GD-wise...we'd need some big shooting boots on for this, no? The 'Holy Grail' may have to wait for another year...

Would need an overhaul of 30 goals scored and 0 conceded to stand a chance.

Call my a cynic but that seems just a little too much to ask for

18th is the best outcome. But tbh it doesn’t matter as long as avoid the drop

We'd just need to equal the biggest ever scoreline in league history (13-0) v Stoke and beat Bristol City by four goals while Birmingham lose their final two games and Stoke their last.

That might be slightly less likely than beating Burnley away.

Yes beat Stoke and job done. Hopefully Stoke will be on the beach and not the side that recently won 5-1 at Sunderland and 4-0 at Coventry, two sides who comfortably won at our place in the same period. Clearly they can score goals so we may need another Burnley type defensive performance.

Win the last 2 and you can ignore any other permutations.

The good news is that our fate is entirely in our own hands. If we win one of our final two matches, we'll remain in the Championship. What I don't want is a final day journey through the emotions, as experienced during the Citeh match in 2012. I'd need a defibrillator on standby.

Beat Stoke on Saturday and put the feet up..... please!

Yes - avoiding a tense last day would be welcome after a traumatic season. But will we?

As I see it, there are three (and only three) scenarios by which we can secure certain safety this coming weekend:

1. We beat Stoke - simples.

2. Blackpool fail to beat Millwall on Friday, we don’t beat Stoke but still match or better Reading’s result against Wigan (i.e. we draw/Royals draw, we draw/Royals lose, we lose/Royals lose).

3. Reading beat Wigan, we only draw at Stoke (rendering Blackpool irrelevant) but, crucially, Huddersfield then lose in Cardiff on Sunday.

I think that’s it - for my own sanity.

On 3, Huddersfield have a game in hand (Sheffield United), so we can’t get away from them this weekend.

Yep, you're right - but in terms of guaranteeing safety this weekend , we wouldn't 'need' to as such.

Huddersfield play Reading on the final day so, under point 3, the worst-case scenario on the morning of the final day would be us on 48pts (having drawn at Stoke), Hudd on 47 (lost to Cardiff & assume they thrash Sheff Utd in their game in hand) and Reading on 46 (having beaten Wigan) ie confirmed safety.

We'll still need one more win imo

Reading should get at least 4 points, Huddersfield have a win in the and one of Rotherham or Cardiff will go above us tomorrow possibly both

With them all playing each other though it's a weird combination of results needed now though. Not saying it won't happen but my God it's amazing how that one Chris Martin goal has transformed a situation from one I thought was a certain relegation to one now where we need to lose both, Reading basically need to win both, Huddersfield need to lose to Reading but beat somebody else...

it's only gonna take Huddersfield & Reading winning this weekend (Or Huddersfield beating Sheff Utd at home who should already be up by then) and then playing out a 0-0 draw for us to be bang in trouble if we lose the last 2

We should be fine as I think we'll get something in last 2 games but we'll need more points than we have now to make sure

It might be a good Idea If posters stopped talking about Bristol City and Stoke being 'on the beach' or already 'on holiday'
No they f ucking well aint, get a bloody grip.
We could play two teams of bleeding Holiday reps and get beat.
We shouldn't be In this situation but we are and that's our tough shit for supporting/backing a football club that's still stuck In1983.
It's both cringeworthy and hypocritical laughing at the fakes and their 6 point deduction, 49 points they'd be on otherwise.

Get this godawful season over once and for all and start sorting our club out.

Sick to death of It.
