Welcome to the lion's den - match thread
at 11:59 25 Dec 2023

As the song continues, temptations on his way. You look at the form table, see Millwall struggling and think to yourself 'you know what, we can win this'.

The thing about new managerial bounces is that gravity eventually kicks in and you revert back to the level you should have been at all along. We won three in a row, but the feel good factor is beginning to wear off. We should have earned more than one point from our last three outings, but didn't. Gravity is holding us back from our desired ascent up the table. We cannot score as often as we need to, as we don't have (m)any natural goalscorers on the team. Pot shots from 60
yards don't usually result in goals.

So what's going to happen against Millwall? There won't be many goals scored in this one. I think we'll continue to frustrate ourselves and will fail to score, but will suffer from another momentary lapse of
concentration in defence and will lose 1-0.

Neil Warnock tribute from David Squires
at 12:36 26 Sep 2023

https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2023/sep/26/david-squires-on

Marvelous

I love the attention to detail. Squires obviously knows the story of Neil promising the 2010/11 team that he'd continue wearing shorts until we got beaten. Then had to wear them for every match until December.

Did he miss an open goal with the Diouf "sewer rat" reference, then signing him later in his career?

QPR medicals
at 00:49 14 Jul 2023

With Begovic currently undergoing a medical per WSL, it got me thinking. Does anyone recall any player who has failed a medical at Loftus Road resulting in us not completing the deal? It sometimes feels like having a chequered medical history is a prerequisite before we consider signing a player!

Lucky escape
at 10:12 15 Mar 2023

In the aftermath of me handing out cans of 7up to all the Man Utd fans in the office last week, I was gently reminded by one of them of last night's score first thing this morning. He pointed out that he was waiting for a seventh goal, so he (and everyone else) could retaliate in kind this morning.

Thank you Blackpool for your empathy, and taking your foot off the pedal once the result was clearcut. It probably saved many of us from further humiliation.

Keith Stroud watch
at 22:03 17 Aug 2022

Like everyone else, I'm dreading the day Clive announces him as referee for a forthcoming match.

Until that day, he is clearly maintaining the standards to which we have become accustomed. Just the seven yellow cards in tonight's Reading-Blackburn match.

Season long investments
at 11:11 25 Jul 2022

It's that time of the year where we gaze into the crystal ball and put together an accumulator which will hopefully keep us interested in other leagues for much of the season. My strategy, which unfortunately has rarely paid a dividend, is to pick one bet from each of the four divisions.

This season, I'm going with Fulham to be relegated, Norwich to be promoted, (yeah, I know!), MK Dons to finish in the Top 6 and Northampton to finish in the top 7. The odds are 29/1

#1 Player-fan, discuss
at 14:07 25 Nov 2021

Kensalriser just made an observation on the Albert thread that Kevin Gallen is protective of his perceived status as the #1 Player-fan. Presumably that refers to a player who is also a fan of the club.

I think that statement is open to a lively debate. Let's discuss the alternatives.

From the same era, Marc Bircham will get a mention. I know he's a fan, but, and it's a big one, how many of us have a Millwall lion tattoo on our shoulder???

Lee Cook went above and beyond the call of duty as a supporter. He gave his sign on fee, reportedly approx GBP500k, to the club as he knew we were skint.

Play Offs
at 09:52 17 May 2021

Surely the only team that can stop Brentford from getting promoted is Brentford. Looking at the form table, Wycombe have a better record in their final five matches than all of the other three clubs in the Play Offs, and they got relegated.

Momentum is everything in the Championship, can the serial chokers keep their composure this time around?

Relegation battle 2020/21
at 14:31 9 Feb 2021

I think this season's contest to avoid relegation from the Championship is the most interesting battle in the top two divisions. It is generally accepted that despite their laudable efforts match in, match out, that Wycombe will return to League 1 at the end of the season. There are two more seats for that journey and nobody has bought the tickets just yet.

The form table in the Championship tells a curious story. Most of the teams getting points on the board these days are in the bottom half of the table. Teams
in that half who are not winning regularly need to be looking over their shoulders right now. I'm looking at Huddersfield, Coventry and Birmingham as teams who probably weren't expecting to be in this position a few weeks ago.

Momentum is everything in this league......

Queens Park Hammers
at 21:54 21 Apr 2020

I have always wondered whether we have ever come out on the right side of any transfer deal with them. Maybe my view on that is overly tainted by the fiasco that was the Sinclair deal.

Anyway, in the spirit of other similar threads, I had a go at selecting a team from players who represented both clubs.

GK: Parkes
RB: Konchensky
CB: Rio Ferdinand
CB: Gabbidon
LB: Brevett
MID: Sinclair
C MID: Lomas
MID: Morrison
FWD: Les Ferdinand
FWD: Goddard
FWD: Clive Allen

Subs: Zamora, Benayoun, Luke Young

Your Team of the Decade
at 16:47 11 Dec 2019

I just received an email from the club, looking for my view on who merits selection for this prestigious accolade.

Once you begin reflecting on it, the painful memories which you thought you had suppressed start flooding back. Yes there were high points: the 2010/11 promotion season; the 5 home wins in a row followed by the most memorable match ever, since God created the Premiership, against Citeh; Bobby's last minute winner at Wembley to steal promotion from Derby. But, and it's big one, the rest of the rubbish we had to endure was truly awful.

I guarantee you, you will start putting a team together in your head, or even on a piece of paper, and you will soon wish you hadn't.
