Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City 09:05 - Apr 3 with 2280 views | SwansIndependent | Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City 3rd Apr 2022 09:01It wasn’t the most positive of run ins to a derby game that ended in a memorable 4-0 win yesterday. The faith maybe lost by some swans fans in Russell Martin’s vision for the club. The road at times this season has been a wobbly one that possibly required a little bit more faith in a young football managers dream. 0

Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City on 09:19 - Apr 3 with 1212 views | Dr_Winston | Not sure I share your belief that everyone wants the club to do well under RM. Been more than enough evidence to the contrary this season. In general I agree with the piece though. It almost feels like the sheer inconsistency that we've displayed this season causes more frustration than just being shite. When you know that the team can do better than we have too often this year sometimes it's harder to accept than simply not being good enough. That and our propensity for self inflicted calamities. People get annoyed because we can do better. When we're on our game and moving the ball and ourselves around the pitch smoothly and quickly as we did for the first goal then you can truly understand and admire what RM is trying to accomplish. You can question a few decisions he's made in the process, but most will want him to succeed in what he's trying to do. He's earned a Summer window and a full pre-season, but we need to start the next campaign well.

In perpetuity? No. There are however definitely some who would accept, even prefer to lose a few games if it meant RM getting the sack.

I have been one of Martin's biggest critics and since early doors but I certainly want the club to do well under him which is why I have been so vocal. I always believed this squad was better than its results and performances...and the football bring played was wrong. Yesterday showed what this squad can do when we are direct. By that I mean more forward and sideways rather than backwards and sideways looking to attack with intensity and pace....which we did yesterday. Our third goal came from Pullis tactics big kick up field from the keeper ..no insistence on playing it out which led to us winning the ball and Chritie finding Wolfs herewith a cracking cross. A great win...maybe RM is finally learning...we played a different way yesterday to how we did at home v Brum and long may it continue. that said this 90 minutes of football shouldn't define the season....we have 7 games remaining let's see if our manager continues with yesterdays winning style or has he has before reverts to plan A....plan AB worked yesterday and previously...that will show he has earned a window and next season but in the MEANWHILE it's great to bask in that great win and the historic double..I'm notsure if Gwyn is still with us but in his honour...."COME ON MY LOVELY BOYS"

Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City on 10:10 - Apr 3 with 1083 views | magicdaps10 | I think we have to understand the plan here with Martin and how he wants the football to be played as was shown yesterday, it was never going to happen overnight but the glimpses of the style he wants to play have been there, if we had not been seeing it then I can understand. We need to understand the whole situation and as the post states believe. I know it can be hard to see and understand but the football yesterday is what Martin is trying to achieve....the first goal being a perfect example. What I will say, Martin needs to start delivering a top half team next season, issue will be that some will be calling for more than that but the foundation needs to be built towards a solid top half push next year.... And the who knows.

"I think we have to understand the plan here with Martin and how he wants the football to be played " Is it now? It doesn't seem like it to me, yesterday was not Martinball, the proof being the simple statistic of Possession, only 59%. and not what he has been promoting for the last 3 years. Add in the type of football that Dr P and Martin's other critics have been pointing out has been winning games, ie direct with pace and confidence. Your bizarre claim that this is suddenly a demonstration of "Martinball" is absurd, if it is Martinball then he is only doing exactly what his critics said he should be doing all along. Which means they were right from the beginning.

Spot on ......yesterday was not Martinball as seen st the start of the season....or in the majority of games. From kick off we touched the ball back then immediately launched a cross field pass out to Christie on the wing whereas usually it would end up back in our box. More intentisity... Downes drove through the midfield with the ball to set up the move leading to the first goal rather than sideways pass to Grimes or Naughton..... Yesterday was not 65% + possession focused....it was a style that is both attractive and successful.... Hopefully RM is adopting his iterative philosophy....great ein yesterday but against poor opposition and played a different way....but a historic day and another first for the best team in Wales

Possession percentages tend to go down when you get behind a teams full backs regularly. The issue we have been having is getting behind the full backs and finding the space, the first goal was a prime example of short sharp passing with that killer pass or passes once you drag the player out. It was always the intended way of playing but is not always that easy to do when starting out, we will see games where it Wil happen and others when it will not, the more it's got used to then the more we will hopefully see it. It tends to be bizarre to people when they don't understand or have a concept of it. We need to get behind Martin and the team now, hopefully the plan is starting to come into place ready for next season. The magnifying glass will certainly come on Martin next season, top half finish and a solid through the season needs to be the yardstick.... Over to Martin.

There in lies the issue, did you really expect to see the finished article early in the season? You had to be a decent person to have atleast given it time to be developed! Hopefully this is now a turning point for us and we can use the remaining games as a platform to get ready for next season.. Issue is, its the championship and its a very topsy turvy league but Martin is trying to make us different to the others and its nice to see the signs are there. We just need to understand the process and believe as the first post states.

Was it?! Suppose being 4-0 up and taking the foot off the gas brought that percentage down. So ultimately at the 4th goal it was over 70%....blows fans dad's theory out the window then. Thanks for the rejig on that Treforys, have to take the whole picture in sometimes as I have stated.

That would be very clever 80 minutes with 70% possession says that we had the ball for 56 minutes at that point. 90 minutes at 59% says we had had the ball for 53 minutes. So not only did Cardiff have the the ball for 10 minutes it was at over 100%. Because they reduced the time we had the ball at 80 minutes by 3 minutes. So we had it for -3 minutes. So either the 70% is wrong or the BBC 's 59% is wrong because they can't both be right.

BBC probably wrong then. The percentage clearly dropped from the last 10 minutes as we certainly of you watch over it again took our foot off the gas as the job was done, arguably could say it was similar after the 3rd. The style clearly and understandably changed after the 3rd and 4th so the possession at the end of the game is hardly a yardstick to work off. Its like a team going 3-0 up at half time, you wouldn't expect them to be breaking their back 2nd half to get hold of the ball....its not always as clear and cut with stats as explained before. One thing that is clear.... Russell Martin goes down in history as the first manager to do the Welsh league double and we should be thankful enough to give him our respect for that. Let's believe a bit more and roll on next season.

Two points. 1. My "agenda" is for the Swans to play the best football they can, not what the Manager's name is. 2. "Win or lose its the same manager and players.", but not the same tactics.

Yeah but the 2 points also 1.When we win its not because of Martin's style. 2.Martin is only willing to play 1 style. It blows those 2 points out the window because the 2 points above are rolled out. Its getting boring now and was something I was hoping that wasn't going to be rolled out yesterday or today. Martin will win games his way and he will lose them his way........we have to be atleast consistent.

without wishing to get into an argument the way we played yesterday was totally diffwrent to how we have for the majority of games.... There was less time spent knocking the ball around inside our half and in our defensive third.we looked to move the ball forwards more and used long balls more. When RM has adopted this in the past it has proved successful too.... Wd are not going to agree I know...but yesterday was not Nartinball gas he has been insistent on playing it was more akin to Robertoball.... Maybe after The Brum game Curt has had a word. Let's see how the remaining games pan out.... But still we hammered them on their turf and made history with the double....a great win...a great day
