Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City 3rd Apr 2022 09:01
It wasn’t the most positive of run ins to a derby game that ended in a memorable 4-0 win yesterday. The faith maybe lost by some swans fans in Russell Martin’s vision for the club. The road at times this season has been a wobbly one that possibly required a little bit more faith in a young football managers dream. 0

Yeah, Martin's style does produce goals and that is the answer.

Martin was an ex pro and international, speak to him and he will explain a few things to you I am sure.

But he has not achieved any success yet has he?

Had we lost yesterday I'm sure things would be different....just as last season was defined by the 90 mins of the paly off final it seems this season has now been defined by yesterdays 90 mins!

God knows how Martin's style gets goal if all he wants is to pass backwards and sideways!

The passing you refer to is to pull the oppositions shape out of place and once achieved the pace, runs in behind and passing with intent comes into place.

Vetch I am going to say it sorry but you really have got no clue about how this style actually works and are misreading the stats in comparison to how the style actually works. The more joy you get from knowing the style and making it work the more the possession percentage comes down and more shots at goal you get.

Under Martin we achieve 1.18 goals per game...under the boring Cooper we achieved 1.21 goals per game last season

stats eh

Which as I have said before is why not other manager is attempting to play that way

As you say if this is the case we can never expect to progress...where are Brighton under the great manager Potter? Struggled to beat Norwich ...
IF this style is going to be hard to replicate game after game why persevere with it?
This has been said before keep digging a hole daps

Brighton who are 13th in the prem who have played some superb football over the season, come on Vetch that's just silly now.

I will let you into another secret Vetch, it doesn't have to be successful game after game for it to get success over a full season.

And?!

Next year we could average less than 1.18 goals per game and finish higher up the league, teams that get promoted could even have a lesser goals per game ratio.

Stats as I have stated before don't always show a true reflection.

I understand your concern but its been about 15 months too early, come back to me in October/November and if we are struggling lower than 12/13th in the league and I will gladly join you in what needs sorting.

the issue is yesterday historic derby win has clouded the issue...

Out of interest, how many penalties did we have last season compared to this one?
How many penalties did we score?
How many points did we pick up from scored penalties?

Yesterday was a fantastic day.
Tuesday may not be.

No it hasn't, I don't think anyone thinks that, we beat then 4-0 away first double in over a 100 yrs, come on be reasonable.

we may have a mare in mid week, , who knows, Obafemi didn't play for half a season, Martin says he wasn't ready....maybe he wasn't,

That's a stat also...

Under Hollins 1999 / 2000 our goals per game stat was 1.108 goals per game.
Although in my opinion that title winning season was boring as any I can remember.
So Vetch random stats mean nothing, as for example if we had not conceded against Reading (H), Birmingham (A), Luton (A), Preston (A)and Blackpool (H) we would be firmly in the top six having scored the same number of goals.
So if I wanted used stats I could show it is our defence is the problem as the attack is doing better than Hollins championship winning side ?
Let's just go with the process and continue to enjoy Saturday's result eh Vetch.

Stats are a handy guideline but by no means are they the tool to work from at sll times.

In our last 6 games we have scored 11 goals, taken 13 points from our last 21(7 games). That's not too shabby considering Martin is not up to it and we are not progressing in some people's eyes.
