Sometimes we just have to believe in Swansea City
Sunday, 3rd Apr 2022 09:01 by Keith Haynes

It wasn’t the most positive of run ins to a derby game that ended in a memorable 4-0 win yesterday. The faith maybe lost by some swans fans in Russell Martin’s vision for the club. The road at times this season has been a wobbly one that possibly required a little bit more faith in a young football managers dream.

What we saw yesterday wasn’t a slap in the face for any swans fan who maybe has lost a little bit of that faith over the past few months. Nobody ever wants their team to lose, not least those who have complained about the style and type of football Russell Martin believes in. No supporter can be classified as that bizarre. We hear about process and we read about patience, and Martin has been given a lot of that, and in some cases more than he warranted at times. However, anyone who saw the demolition of Cardiff yesterday, and who has a modicum of humility will concede that those four goals were special in every way.

Each one was an example of what Russell Martin’s vision is all about. All four an example of the hard work this young man is committed to at Swansea City. There will be many sore heads around the planet this morning, and many will wake up happy but also still with questions. There are many I’m sure who are still so bewildered by that swans performance another twenty four hours may well be needed to process it.

For me the most relevant is this. Surely now we have to understand that a football revolution is more about belief and understanding, not only by those who purvey the goods but by those who stand in line to bear witness to the change.

Yesterday was the example, today is the understanding, and this season has been the catalyst.

We saw that in droves in a history making game where the swans slayed the bluebirds once again and Russell Martin takes his place in the history of Swansea City. Dramatic ? Not at all. Russell Martin led the swans to something neither Welsh club has done in the history of the derby. Two wins in a season, so let’s enjoy the day, each and everyone of us. They don’t come along that often.
