Fourteen wickets on the first day of any test match is utter bollox. What sort of a wicket is that? I don`t think they`d prepare that type of wicket for a County game,so why do it for the biggest test series in the game? Think there`s been a bit of lateral thinking here and only time will tell whether this obvious ploy will work,but as often happens in sport,it could end up biting England in the arse.

Too many players got themselves out though.

whilst not a shirt front it is certainly not a 14 wickets in a day track.

Look at the way England collapsed from Prior ( who needs a good talking too ) and the tail.

Add to that, the general nervousness of a first day in an Ashes series.

I doubt there were many complaints from those lucky enough to have tickets, and the main thing is, they'll be back to buy more in the future!

One of the opening days in the series against NZ was a very slow crawl - in this day and age, fans will be more likely to react badly to that type of showing, even when we achieved a positive result in the end.

Test cricket is what it is, and going back through the 130-odd years will show a shedload of opening days where wickets tumbled.

Traditionalists? Don't make me laugh!

PS: to Geoff Boycott - slagging off Steve Finn for bowling "rubbish" at the start of the over where he very nearly got a hat-trick just makes you look at right tit.
