Ashes Winter thread on 00:42 - Dec 6 by CHUBBS | Yeah i'd definately take the draw as it looks like they're heading for 400+. My worry Blob is our batting, even on good wickets has been poor for some time so i won't be surprised if we somehow lose 20 wickets. |
Our traditional collapse or somehow redemption? I think the rot's in. Time to invoke The Spirit of Boycott?

They need to end this partnership sharpish for redemption but i'm out the door in 6 hours so won't be around to watch it. Night

Ashes Winter thread on 07:45 - Dec 6 with 1263 views | CamberleyR | Oh dear. Wake up to them having made 570 declared. I said that drop from Carberry yesterday would be costly. It's hard enough taking 20 wickets at Adelaide without giving them extra chances. As I feared that first test has given them massive confidence and momentum. Seems a long way away since we had them 130-6 in the first dig at Brisbane.

Ashes Winter thread on 09:08 - Dec 6 with 1229 views | ElHoop | This test could be the 'Stalingrad' of the series. In some ways, following on might help us if we can ultimately scrape a draw. They would go hammer and tongs for three days and those three days could take their toll. Their bowlers won't have much left for Perth which starts next Thursday night. Then we bring in Finn and Rankin and blast them off the planet. If only it could happen!
Ashes Winter thread on 09:30 - Dec 6 with 1218 views | ShotKneesHoop | Has all the makings of another Dunkirk, this one. We won't make the follow on target. Cannot see Pieterson doing anything, they have worked him out. Carberry, Root and Bell are the only ones with the guts and technique to see the Aussies off. Lehman has done a good job on managing the Aussies, we have flattered to deceive and we have not developed enough proper English born prospects. We are much too content to rely on imports, and that includes ECB management. Sounds a lot like a QPR mirror image. [Post edited 6 Dec 2013 9:31]

Ashes Winter thread on 09:37 - Dec 6 with 1214 views | daveB | Day 3 is the key one, if England bat the day out then they should be in a position where they can win it but I'm not sure our batting line up is strong enough. An Aussie win looks like the most likely outcome at the moment

1) Can LFW cricket experts tell me is Carberry better than Compton? Carberry has better composure and can work more singles, Compton gets tied down too easily, shame that Carberry can't catch. (3) Can LFW cricket experts tell me who is the back-up keeper for Matty Prior and will he be up to the task if MP ain't fit? Both Root and Bairstow are wicketkeeper batsmen, rather than the other way round, other contenders are imports, i.e. Kieswetter and the rest (4) The Battle of the Giants, Finn v Tremlett v Rankin,The 6 foot 6/7 inch mob - who do you think will win out to get the one place ? Will there be enough bounce in aussie pitches for any of them to be successful? None of them are good enough, might as well play Bresnan when fit, who can also bat. Should have taken Onions who is a better more consistent bowler, but we left him behind. (5) Dear old leaping high fiving, pissing-on-Brighton-bouncer Monty Panesar. Is he a gone busted flush or can he come in & do a job when required? Remember him doing well out in India on tour and Boycs is a big fan. Although Monty is bowling better than Swann ATM, he is a shocking bat and a god awful fielder, shows how limited a choice we have when we have to take him. (6) Will our talismanic aussie-riling egotistical ace- in-the-hole Mr KP be fit and firing? Persistent chronic knee trouble innit..hmmm? No, he is a complete arse, the equivalent of Beckham, he will phook it up again. Bell is our only world class bat, it will all depend on him.... and Joe Root. If they go cheap, good night Vienna. We won't get to the follow on target. We are paying the price of not developing our own home grown takent and relying on imports paid for with Sky money.

Ashes Winter thread on 10:31 - Dec 6 with 1179 views | QPRDave | Our boys have got to stand up and be counted. Just Occupy the crease, if there's a ball to be hit ...hit it, just don't go after short stuff and get out stupidly. They don't have a Warne in the side that can out class us so make em work for any wickets they might get.
Ashes Winter thread on 10:44 - Dec 6 with 1174 views | HollowayRanger | wouldnt want a ticket for day 5 will all be over and done by then we went into this test with a so called strong bowling attact and what i can only describe as a weak batting line up well the aussie have 500 + we have 5 now 4 real batsmen left after that its wagging tale time

We only 4 real batsman, don't include the one shot show pony, they'll target him and he'll get caught for phoook hall at either mid wicket or fine leg. It's all down to Bell batting two days.

Bell will struggle to bat for two days without company.
Ashes Winter thread on 11:43 - Dec 6 with 1137 views | ElHoop | So we've got 19 wickets in hand, which isn't too bad despite the loss of Cook. Realistically we aren't going to declare at any stage as we won't score very quickly and even if we went past their score we wouldn't want to use our bowlers again with back to back tests. Let them bowl for the last three days if we can get into that position, one way or the other. Carberry has already had the luck that was due to him after the last test. Can he take advantage? He needs to get a ton here. Root I think can get a ton in at least one innings. KP and Stokes will have a go at them I think. If they ended up out in the middle together then that could be quite exciting. Bell needs a ton here somewhere, no question. I think that it might come down to how long the likes of Prior, Broad and Swann can occupy the crease. An average of an hour an innings each would be 6 hours up one end, a whole day hopefully supporting Bell or KP in either innnings. It's possible on this wicket, but we need to rediscover our batting mojo.

Ashes Winter thread on 17:18 - Dec 6 with 1109 views | CamberleyR | Anything less than 1-0 down going to Perth and that will be it I think. Our record there is shocking, one win in about twelve and that win came against their third team in 78/79. I reckon they've got one hand on the urn already. This next England innings will define the series. Fail to avoid the follow on and they will have both hands, a foot and some teeth.
