Ashes Winter thread on 08:12 - Dec 13 by CHUBBS | We had our foot on their throat yet let them off the hook. I've forgotten how many times we've done this over the years. If we'd been 140 odd for 5 you get the feeling they'd be batting already. This performance has been coming but to lose in this manner against a bang average team is just not acceptable. |
Exactly right. We do it time and again, as I said on here the other day. They will now score 350 plus having let them off the hook, and our batting will again collapse to sub 200.
Ashes Winter thread on 08:24 - Dec 13 with 1074 views | edwardtheconfessor | The Ashes have gone lads. The batting has rightly been criticised but do we look even remotely close to taking twenty wickets. Selection all wrong, with over cautious tactics and trying to cover all bases while strengthening none.Bresnan's non swinging long hops (is he likely to score more than 25 runs in total in both innings?) and stokes(maybe 2 wickets and 25/30 run contribution) included because of his jack of all trades credentials.Finn and Rankin should have been the brave and the bold/Sh1t or bust option if we had any desire to cling on to the urn.The Aussies will be laughing they dont have to face these two on a fast bouncy pitch. FFS why pick both stokes and bresnan..two cheeks of the same arse. [Post edited 13 Dec 2013 8:25]

Ashes Winter thread on 08:21 - Dec 14 with 976 views | CHUBBS | They just can't afford to lose any more wickets today thus the score rate is moving at a snails pace making a win unlikely. I'd probably take the draw still giving us a slim chance to win the last couple of tests. You can just feel the inevitable collapse just around the corner.

Actually I can't see a collapse unless the pitch disintegrates, which hopefuly it won't until we've got 500 on the board and knackered Oz.

Yet again Cook gives his wicket away to let the Aussies off the hook. Talk about betting scandels,if you didn't know better you'd think we had money on them. Awful And now Pieterson throws his wicket away yet again. What a pathetic bunch they really are. [Post edited 14 Dec 2013 8:57]

Still not over though. Stokes and Bell managed to dig in but started scoring late on. If they can make it until lunch tomorrow, we're right back in there.

Its not over but Cook and Pieterson were pretty well set yet decided to throw their wickets away when the plan should have been to keep wickets in hand. Although the scoring rate was slow, with wickets in hand and a tiring bowling attack the runs will always come on this pitch. England will probably end up with a 50 plus deficit which will be crucial batting last on this pitch.

I agree, I thought that they were doing fine - no need to quicken up the pace. Oz was bowling well so we needed to ride it out while they got tired. But we can still ride it out. Somebody needs to get a ton, but that's still possible, and I'm not sure that the tail will be blown away this time, which everyone else seems to be assuming will happen. New ball is vital - time for Stokes to become a man.
Ashes Winter thread on 11:55 - Dec 14 with 914 views | newgolddream | Getting a crowbar in the safe door hasn't been England's problem in this failing raid down under. It's just that every time the loot has been within reach, the grizzled old guard dog has sunk his teeth into their backside.
Ashes Winter thread on 12:06 - Dec 14 with 907 views | ShotKneesHoop | It's getting to the point where I'm not sure who is the most brain-dead, idiotic, pathetic, can't be arsed, "I'll have the money, Mabel" sportsman out of KP and SWP. One thing in SWP's favour is that he dosen't even make the bench these days, so he's gone up in my estimation. Whereas Flat Track Bully KP's favourite trick is to keep on making the same mistake - chipping it to mid wicket. He has to be dropped, even the Aussies have worked him out "Tie him down and he will choke" [Post edited 14 Dec 2013 12:09]

Well someone needs to step up and make a ton. This has got to be the longest in any series we've failed to win a days play never mind a test. If Bell doesn't score heavily you get the feeling this game will go their way again. Cook and Pieterson should hang their heads in shame yet again.
Ashes Winter thread on 14:11 - Dec 14 with 869 views | willis1980 | Tomorrow really hinges on the new ball, if and it's a big if england see it off and keep their heads you could see england achieving an unlikely lead. Partnerships between bell and prior and then prior and broad have been fruitful in the past, stokes and bresnan are capable of good knocks and swanns attacking nature might come off at a time when the Aussie bowlers will be weary. It's important to point out that root would've still been given out without des however, why we have two poor umpires in this prolific series is beyond me. Massive no balls not given, not calming matters down when tensions are running high, allowing fast bowlers to bounce out the tailenders repeatedly without a warning given etc. Erasmus and dharmasena are plain awful and Bowden has been so poor previously he was dropped from the elite panel. They all seem to rely on the technology to make the decisions for them not doing much else than counting overs.
Ashes Winter thread on 14:19 - Dec 14 with 862 views | SydneyRs | In the home series quite a few things went our way. In this series everything has gone Australia's way. The toss has been important in all 3 games and in all 3 it has gone their way. I can't see us turning this one around, this has to be one of the most home side favourite grounds anywhere in world cricket. They hardly ever lose here. To anyone. As for KP, just imagine how good his record would be if he had any idea about shot selection.
