Ashes Winter thread 22:31 - Nov 6 with 47065 views | newgolddream | Australia all-rounder Shane Watson faces a battle to be fit for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on 21 November. The 32-year-old sustained a hamstring injury while bowling in Australia's final one-day international against India last Saturday.

Not it we allow last wicket stand. It was OK in Junior Schools in the 50's so why not now?

Ashes Winter thread on 17:43 - Dec 6 by QPRDave | Nothing like optimism .....and you lot are def not optimistic |
Here's why there's no optimism: 1) Can LFW cricket experts tell me is Carberry better than Compton? Carberry has better composure and can work more singles, Compton gets tied down too easily, shame that Carberry can't catch. (2) Can LFW cricket experts tell me who is the back-up keeper for Matty Prior and will he be up to the task if MP ain't fit? Both Root and Bairstow are wicketkeeper batsmen, rather than the other way round, other contenders are imports, i.e. Kieswetter and the rest (3) The Battle of the Giants, Finn v Tremlett v Rankin,The 6 foot 6/7 inch mob - who do you think will win out to get the one place ? Will there be enough bounce in aussie pitches for any of them to be successful? None of them are good enough, might as well play Bresnan when fit, who can also bat. Should have taken Onions who is a better more consistent bowler, but we left him behind. (4) Dear old leaping high fiving, pissing-on-Brighton-bouncer Monty Panesar. Is he a gone busted flush or can he come in & do a job when required? Remember him doing well out in India on tour and Boycs is a big fan. Although Monty is bowling better than Swann ATM, he is a shocking bat and a god awful fielder, shows how limited a choice we have when we have to take him. (5) Will our talismanic aussie-riling egotistical ace- in-the-hole Mr KP be fit and firing? Persistent chronic knee trouble innit..hmmm? No, he is a complete arse, the equivalent of Beckham, he will phook it up again. Bell is our only world class bat, it will all depend on him.... and Joe Root. If they go cheap, good night Vienna. We won't get to the follow on target. We are paying the price of not developing our own home grown talent and relying on imports paid for with Sky money. And after the World Cup Football Draw, we'll also be back home after the first two games of the tournament for the same reason. [Post edited 6 Dec 2013 18:05]

Ashes Winter thread on 21:24 - Dec 6 with 1297 views | newgolddream | England's hopes of retaining the Ashes took another battering as Australia took complete control of the second Test on an utterly one-sided second day. A brilliant 148 from Michael Clarke and belligerent 118 from Brad Haddin took the game away from England before lower order hitting from Ryan Harris (55 not out) allowed the captain to declare on an intimidating 570-9.

Ashes Winter thread on 01:05 - Dec 7 with 1252 views | Nov77 | Pieterson, Aussies set the trap and he falls for it. What a dope. As for joe root, takes him 80 deliveries to score just 15, then when he finally plays an attacking shot he skies it.

Ashes Winter thread on 01:05 - Dec 7 with 1252 views | TheBlob | What the f*ck is going on?Have they been bribed or something?Pietersen walks down the pitch and dollies it into the fielder. No spirit,no desire,no hope. I'm f*cking off to bed.Good luck chaps, hope you've had a bit of liquid anaesthetic.

Yep, Lose this by 350+ runs, which is looking likely and they are heading for a whitewash given our dismal record in Perth as I mentioned previously. Take a bow though Michael Carberry and Ian Bell, the rest, words fail me. FFS, even Panesar lasted nearly as many balls as Pietersen, Stokes, Prior, Broad, Swann and Anderson put together.

Ashes Winter thread on 09:11 - Dec 7 with 1101 views | johnhoop | Pity Cook can't just hand Clarke the urn now and be done with it rather than having to drag themselves and English cricket fans through another 5-0 humiliation. Perth looks like being a bloodbath. Am now royally kicking myself as I checked the odds on 5-0 Australia at the end of day one and I believe you could have got 18-1. I almost never bet but was strongly tempted to put some on.I didn't act on it and it's now down to 5-1 !
