Corbyn as Prime Minister 11:26 - May 28 with 35136 viewsoff2div1

Labour policies are more for the working class but is Corbyn capable of running the country.

What's struck me about the campaign is the left's excitement at May's U turns.

Yet when Corbyn decides to change his mind at the last minute and attend the tv debate, no-one mentions a U- turn.

Yet again, it's one rule for the pm, and another for the leader of the opposition.

Wouldn't you expect them to? Of course they're going to ramp their own guy and scream with outrage at the other. Ask yourself where are the Tories supporters? They're there but they're quiet because May does simply not inspire.

Right wingers have been plenty loud enough against Corbyn and others not on the right.
Bit of a difference between changing your mind as to whether or not to turn up to a tv debate, than a U turn on policies that would affect millions of people.

A lot of Tory supporters won't come out and defend them because (especially on social media) they are shouted down as a bigot, racist, sexist, anti-gays etc for having a difference of opinion by the intolerant lefties.

If having a difference of opinion gets you outed for no reason other than you have a differing opinion to someone else, you're less likely to share it. A bit like this forum actually!

It all seems very bizarre..

If i didnt know better id swear this whole GE was manipulated by the Labour party.."oh look at us we are a mess ..look at our leader we cant stand him..we are here for the taking"...(Mohammed Ali's dope on a rope almost)..then lo and behold when May looks for the knockout blow..our dope becomes more of a challenge than the Tories anticipated.

I watched the debate last night, that is if you could call it a debate, it was more like a BBC organised meeting of momentum. I assessed all the speakers, Tim Farron was like a broken record, Paul Nuttall made some good comments (and was shouted down by the Left-wing audience on key issues) Leanne Woods - her voice grinds like scrapping a hand across a blackboard, Angus Roberts was worse then Farron, Caroline Lucas just being her annoying self, that left Corbyn and Rudd.

Corbyn - he seemed be evasive and at times, a little boy lost, when it came to questions on where the money would come from, terrorism and when he all but said he would have open immigration with the line ' we would accept anyone with a job, with relatives here and anyone seeking refuge', i thought why don't you just say anyone.
Rudd - to me she was an unknown quality, I have thought of her as poor, but last night I was surprised by her performance, she seemed to have a rod of harden steel running down her back and despite being thrown in the Lions den, she was the most impressive of all the debaters.

You may argue this is not important, but besides the leaders you must look at the whole team, and compare Abbott to Rudd or David Davis to Thornberry for example and ask who would you think is more capable of holding the senior posts in the government that impacts on our everyday lives.

I'm not a fan of Dianne Abbott, she's not anything like as clever as she thinks she is. She thinks she can wing it and she can't. A bit like that idiot Boris Johnson. If Labour do form a Government I would suspect she'll be quietly shunted to one side. I like Emily Thornberry, she very articulate and knows her subject most of the time. Most people have a downer on her because of her " white van man " remarks but put that one side and she's a very capable politician. I could see her as a Home Secretary.

Amber Dudd's OK as long as you don't want her to run a corner shop.

The team is incredibly important. You look at Cameron's first front bench, and he made sure he had a bench which appealed to all sides of the Tory party by including IDS, Hague and Clarke. Blair was similar in getting which catered for the traditional and the new. Perhaps should Labour lose the election, the whole party can re-unite and create a front bench that does similar without the accusations of red tories and loony left.

Is this the same Emily Thornberry (or to use her correct title Lay Nugee) who said this week, we must remain in the single market because we cannot sell food to countries like Australia because it would go off by the time it reaches there or is opposed to the selling of council houses, but then it turns out she purchased her mothers council house and now rents it for a fortune in deepest London.

I admit she is better then Abbott, but so then would a stump of wood.

Politicians are all the same, say one thing to the people and do the opposite themselves, I must admit I like Boris and he is popular with the general public, whilst at the same time I dislike Jeremy Hunt. Sadly I can remember when the Labour Party had strong leaders and the moment, I am sorry to say they have a dearth of quality, there are no Clarkes or Johnsons any more, instead we have people like Lucy Powell.

I would love to be able to support Labour's proposed spending spree. Whilst undoubtedly popular, their pledges are simply unaffordable. The country still has a massive structural deficit which these promises will further exagerate.

The Tories are being much less specific. I think this is in part to avoid being tied down by the manifesto whilst balancing the demands of the economy and engaging with Brexit negotiations.

Were Labour elected they could easily find themselves a hostage to fortune on both counts with little scope for manouvre.

I suspect that Corbyn's worst nightmare would be to actually win and have then to deliver on the manifesto.

Her correct title is Emily Thornberry. I'd say it was her choice what her name should be, not yours. Her husband got knighted after they married, so what title she uses is up to her.
Not sure how much rent her and her husband charge for a house that he bought, that was up for auction anyway, but it's reportedly used for housing party activists and the like cheaper than they would pay elsewhere in London.

People are partisan and have a right to be. For every Momentum member that says Tories are baby eaters there's a Tory saying Corbyn is a terrorist. Its just like football, every supporter thinks they're in the right.

For the record I am a Lib Dem member who thinks both a Tory or a Labour government would be crap. Choice between a naive and muddled socialist (though well-meaning) and a PR-obsessed unprincipled capitalist. Ho hum.

The difference is, that's attacking the parties and their beliefs or perception of party actions/views. Most of the vitriol spouted by the left is attacks on people for their personal opinion aimed at that person, not the party.

Sorry but I have been involved in politics for 30 odd years, and I know for a fact, that the right wing are just as , or certainly have been, just as vitriolic as the left towards the opposition, and this was certainly the case when Thatcher was in power. Maybe, May doesn't inspire the same excitement among the Tory support as ex leaders I don't know. Could be some of the more Thatcherite ones have gone towards UKIP, or other parties of the right.

So as a Lib Dem, given the choice, support the Tories in government or Labour? How do you think the Lib Dems would go if they had to make the choice in parliament?

It was a balanced audience, as was the ch4/sky one the other night. Get over your BBC bias claptrap, they favour the tories, as does the press. With a wide open goal, weak and wobbly has cocked this campaign up and corbyn is doing better than expected. Even Tory candidates are saying the campaign is a f*** up and a cluster****. That's why audiences are turning

Personally I would prefer to support Labour, the party however have said they won't enter into a coalition. After last time I don't blame them. If either major party is short of a majority I foresee a minority gov with SNP confidence and supply, followed by another election with different leaders later in the year.

May will be gone if she gets less seats than Cameron.

I really don't get for one minute why labour are considered viable at any level. The damage done to the economy under Blair and Brown has set us back as a country years. I don't particularly like May and the Tories currently but they at least stimulate growth.

As has been said above, screwing companies does the opposite of raising tax. HSBC will bugger off quick if taxes get worse, NHS has been a black hole for ages and needs changing. Why we don't deport all criminals to their country of origin immediately I don't know. Still I am sure it's some human rights guff that keeps us paying the prison bill!

I think youre falling for the age-old big business threat of blackmail often disguised as"increase our taxes and we're off". Similar to the scaremongering noises a few years ago regarding the minimum wage, 1000s of firms would go bust if it was implemented.
If we did deport foreign criminals to their country of origin it would also create space in prisons for the bankers etc involved in the interest fiddling, as the last prime minister said 'they would get the book thrown at them'. What an appalling way to talk about your honest, trustworthy chums in the city.

Cheers for that. I don't think Corbyn will go, unless Labour lose seats overall. If he has improved their share of the vote, number of MPs, as well as doubling the membership of the party, he deserves to stay on IMHO, he certainly has given a bit of a jump start to a otherwise flat battery.😀

Corbyn's had a good election campaign. He's in his element in an election environment. Win, lose or draw he'll be staying in post. If the whole party had got behind him sooner we would be doing better.

One thing is certain and that is since the 2010 GE politics as become a more personal attack on i divivuals by the the tories...
That is how the tories won the GE with camorons dirty tricks campaign....
This GE is the same by the tories less focus on the policies etc and more against Corbyn or whoever....
Corbyn will not get drawn into it and he as proved that.....
