So w are thinking of giving the job to a coach who has failed to win one single home game? Ah but of course Ramsay will promote the youth, even though they can't cut the mustard at youth level. We should bring back the mythical right back Harriman. Do it quickly before the likes of Luton give him a contract !! Whoever becomes the new manager will have to re-build the squad again . Is Ramsay with his years of youth football really the best we can get?

Ramsey ticks all the boxes for me. Yes, there are a couple of niggling doubts, but there is with most appointments. He's trying to do things right for the club long-term and that's a good start.
The 4 year plan starts again next season.

You're obviously short on boxes!

If we lose out last 3 matches, everyone still going to be so keen? Why offer him a deal now?

He's ambitious.
He young.
He wants to promote youth
He coaches players
He will make big decisions
He's tactically ok . (Villa and Chelsea spring to mind)
Doesn't make excuses.
Players respect him.
Managers respect him
He wont cost millions.
He's not about football agents
He works well with Sir les.
He's not Redknapp

I don't think the final 3 matches matter seeing as we will already be relegated

Some of the things that got to me & frustrating writing this.

Chris spent 1st 7 games playing swp, furlong, niko and everyone in the squad, these games lost us the premier spot.
Crystal palace was a baptism for young Furlong and hasn't made the subs bench since.
Wasting Vargas skill and experience with no use early on.
Subbing SWP in stoppage time in a game trying to claw a goal back wasting valuable seconds ?
Timing - Late subbing & not using enough subs.
?Think against Arsenal baffling switch to 3-5-2 in extra time.
Full back Isla bouncing in & out of the team.
Running Zamora every game for 75-80 minutes.
Playing Henry in left mid was very poor idea last few games taking what was at stake.
(Henry at Liverpool looked like a 10 year old playing U18 out on the pitch)
Playing no fullbacks and benching them lost us games.
Playing Hill at Fullback and carrying Redknapps mistakes.
Doesn't know how to play a playmaker or when a game needs it.

On the +-
I like Chris's type of 4-4-2 into a 4-3-3 / 3-4-1-2 which really goes at teams but he's not had the confidence to use it at the right times in games or for long enough to win games.
If he could build a side to match the attacking style that we've seen would be a good thing but he's not shown in his choices that he might have the capability of a senior manager to buy in those players and put the chess pieces together on the pitch.

2 year contract ? Massive gamble for him to take on a rebuild role this summer.
I'd go Senior manager over Chris as manager but its obvious that Tony has not got experience to help Chris but ultimately it falls down to his choice again.

Damned if we do Damned if we don't.

I think it's madness not to at least seriously review all the other candidates alongside Ramsey - it's not like he's going to be snatched up by anyone in the meantime.

If Ramsey is appointed i'll give him my full backing obviously, but deep down i think we all know it's going to be a tough season next year and he'll probably be sacked before Christmas if we wallowing in the bottom half of the table.

Christmas? - he'll be lucky to reach October if we're not tearing up the league according to some on here.

Definitely agree with that first sentence. IF they're giving it to Ramsey now then they're probably putting the idea of planning for next season over planning for the next few years.

There's nothing wrong with having an open interview process.

We'll see if this story turns out to be true. If it is I'll be somewhat sceptical about it succeeding but you never know.

Hang on...we cant beat the top teams and now you are saying we shouldnt expect to beat the bottom teams.....who should we be beating?

I dont have a major problem with Ramsey, he came in and he gave it his best. But for all of the other reasons stated in this post I dont think he is the right man for the job.

I would have given Traore and Yun a crack down the left rather than Henry and Hill.

regardless of which manager we have in next season what are peoples realistic expectations for next season ......given the clearout of players, the FFP Fine and what is a tough division. If CR can get us to Mid Table without spending huge amounts of money he will have done a good job.....Look no further than Wigan Blackpool and Portsmouth......what can happen. Lets face it big names HR & MH were not able to achieve that much at LR by just spending big on so called big names...We should give CR a shot at a different approach but not expect instant success

I love "He's not Redknapp" but not the right boxes for me. Try these for size...

He has managerial experience
He's successful
He knows the championship
He knows the transfer markets both at home and abroad
He wins football matches
He's qualified for the job
He's being hired for the right reasons (not because he's a cheap option or pals with Sir Les)
He's tactically astute (Palace and West Ham spring to mind)

I tick at least 9 of your boxes - should I apply?

I thought we're all agreed that for QPR to win games and do well, other boxes need to be ticked when picking the next manager.

I'd be inclined to give it to him. He's a good coach who knows the situation at the club, knows the players, knows what he needs, knows what we have coming through the junior ranks, has shown a willingness to play the younger players, isn't an egotistical dickhead, fits well with the DOF, good values about how you represent the club and present yourself in training each day and so on.

The two big concerns I have (as well as lots of little ones) are...

1 - Is this hoof it long to Bobby, play four centre halves across the back four, play Karl Henry at left wing stuff simply a man working with what he's got? Or would he, next season, given the chance to make his own signings, simply go out and get another Bobby Zamora, another central midfielder for the left wing, another load of centre backs for full back etc? Because I can quite happily pitch a tent in Aidy Boothroyd's back garden a lot cheaper than buying a QPR season ticket if I want to watch that sort of monotonous sht for a full season.

2 - Are the things I like about him - solid coaching, giving youngsters a chance, representing the club well, speaking well, scouting future opponents, holding the players to high standards in training etc - just basic stuff that any manager would bring. Is it simply that two years of Harry fcking Redknapp sticking his head out of the portacabin every now and again to ask Bondy where he's put the red sauce has made even the very, very basics of modern day football management and coaching look like some unattainable, exotic dream to us at QPR?

Like I say, head says give it to Ramsey and let's see. Heart says give it to Clement, if only because I'd be excited. I haven't been excited about QPR, or football in general, for years now.

Just surviving and avoiding back to back relegations would be my goal currently.

I just can't see how we'll be able to build a team to compete for the playoffs - most of the squad out of contract, big names bound to move (Austin) and average youth players who can hopefully fill out the squad but so no signs of excelling.

Also we have no scouting network to speak of and Ramsey and Les has no experience of the football league to fall back on.

No, with the current squad I didn't expect us to win all 7 of those games. The fact we haven't and are not able to and we haven't won a single game against anyone in the top 10 (WBA in 13th are the current highest placed team we've beaten) is why we're 2nd bottom. A coaching team of Guardiola, Klopp & Mourhinho couldn't get us out of thios mess.

Had we had a better squad and we were in mid table none of these conversations would exist.

Traore? Not a chance. He's been appalling. Yun, yes, but he seemed to have gone off the boil after a good run then got injured.

As has been alluded to (not sure if this thread or another) our midfield has been woeful this season and last. Supply to Austin has been awful, as seen by his own frustration in many games. Along with other defenders this season, Furlong was given no protection at all at Palace and Bolase run him ragged. Furlong was given no protection from midfield.

Midfield is a crucial area of the pitch which is why world record transfers moved from strikers to midfield with the likes of Figo, Zidane etc.

Longer article from the same journo Darren Lewis. Is there any reason why this guy should be trusted for QPR coverage? I'd usually wait for David McIntyre's contribution before investing any faith in media stories. Seems quite a detailed breakdown of the state of affairs, and there's an interesting suggestion Hill is lined up for a coaching role too.

Harry couldn't get the best out of a lot of them either, nor could Hughes. Taarabt seems to be un-managable by all except Warnock and he had to become Warnock's step-son in order for it to work.

A lot of players simply seemed to have lost all their ability the moment the ink dried on the contract.

I'm not saying Ramsey is good or bad, just that I think he's had an impossible task with the fixture list and the players at his disposal.

As I first said on this thread, any manager has to be judged on his own players. If he succeeds, the post count on here goes down. If he fails, there's a queue of people waiting to pounce the moment the ref blows the final whistle.
