Saints were telling better team but dithered on the final pass and refused to take risks with a speculative shot here and there. Biggest bright spot was Van Dijk. Very composed defensively and teamed up well with Fonte. His skill was excellent and his distribution was brilliant. He'll be the player all the bigger clubs will want next summer. SaintBrock added 10:23 - Sep 13 No question that VVD was our best player by far today and looked a class above some of our regulars. Didn't understand Soares being subbed unless he got a knock. Mane didn't start presumably because of his late return for Africa and just as well, he was awful. Targett doesn't inspire confidence and his controversial tackle was just plain hot headed and juvenile. Pelle was useless, he seems to be a very limited player these days and unless the ball is given him on a plate by Tadic he doesn't seem to be able to influence a game at all. What was the story with Romeu? He was on the bench and I would have thought that with his quality it was a no brainer to stick him in alongside Vic as the regular starter who by the way was the only other player to come out of this with any credit. Ron says he was satisfied (really?) so OK in the sense that we didn't lose, had 70% ball possession and got more game time under our belts to settle in our new squad you could call it progress of a sort. We were far too cautious once again, too many square or back passes and painfully slow in our build-ups so that there were always nine men behind the ball. We just do not have an attacking midfielder who can create something from nothing and open up defences. The table is beginning to reflect what most thought that we will be a good mid-table team this season rather than a front runner. Unless we can start winning as opposed to not losing soon this might turn out to be a mediocre season. Teams know how we play and with no new creative players there isn't much chance we are going to surprise anybody and catch them off guard. thairanger added 14:51 - Sep 13 Sigurdsson23 added 23:25 - Sep 13 Very poor performance from the Swans, quite disappointed with Monks tactics, well you could say it was the international break fatigue or whatsoever but for me it ultimately came to Monks team selection and tactics. For starters he named an unchanged team that won against Manchester United, he also had six players who also played their part for their national team, this wouldve been a perfect opportunity for other players to make a start for instance Tabanou couldve made a debut but he wasnt even in the bench, also maybe give Britton a bit of game time instead of Shelvey. Ayew couldve shouldve switched from the left to right cause he was getting pressed and marked on the left to a point where he under performed and didnt have the freedom to play, and therefore put barrow on the right and use his skill and pace to do some damage on the right, also Grimes couldve played a role either subbed on for Sigurdsson or Sigurdsson replace Grimes in the number 10 role because Grimes has excelled in the position a few times showing promise and a chance for him to get some experience and gametime to help him further and develop his talent. RogerToye added 14:44 - Sep 16 I liked Rodriguez movement seems to double up for Pelle We need another option through the middle we should have started with the wing play v Norwich which was great to watch. West Brom where the same team as Norwich in fact minus Ricky they were probably worse. Mane should have started and then subbed not the other way around. Romeu should start next to a fortunate Victor who was solid Turning possession into final third threat needs some variation 3 at the back 5 in the middle and 2 up front will carve these teams open Shunter added 09:11 - Sep 17 Another weak home performance which will not improve until Ramsey sets up the team differently and learns how and when to use substitutes. Playing Henry & Tozser together didnt work against Forest but he continued with it when the game was crying out for Faurlin to put in some creative forward passes. For those fans that moan about mistakes that Greeno makes, accept it, he is the best we got by a long way ! welwynhoop added 09:45 - Sep 17 They out muscled everyone apart from Mackie. They got to every loose ball, almost every header and were willing to chase lost causes. We were not strong enough or determined enough. We had no mid field to speak of and Ramsey should have taken off Henry or Tozser or both. Very, very disappointing. Harbour added 20:30 - Sep 17 Ref and lino made horrible decisions but for smithies we could have been 3 down at HT. Rovers second goal was class from Rhodes...nice take from Ned to make up for it with great headed goal...clear pen and Luongo should have scored....Mackie made a difference and won the corner that ned scored from...another good performance from Charlie Royboy48 added 22:11 - Sep 17 Puzzled by team selection Puzzled by the substitution Puzzled why no other substitutions Puzzled by formation Puzzled by tactics Puzzled why Charlie was kept on the sidelines so long Disappointed in too many poor performances - by both teams Wondering when CR is going to come up with a coherent matchday strategy Other than that, the Ron Springett moment was observed appropriately Thinking of him - and looking at the brilliant shot of Parksie in the Gala Night advert on the screen, I remarked to John (FL Block F44) that it's a shame that neither of them is available tp play for us now....
