Omicron 11:01 - Nov 30 with 28364 views | RonaldStump | Well, well.well .. the symptoms of the 'new variant' have, so far, only happened in vaccinated people and they have the same complications as severe vaccine reactions. Didn't see that one coming did we How convenient... we don't have to blame the vaccines anymore!! Awake yet? .........surely you are

Omicron on 16:23 - Dec 13 by Jack123 | It's like a bad dream all this, very easy to forget, then look at twitter, then you get Drakeford making an announcement at 7, I wonder what we would be like if going through this 100 year ago, with no internet or tv. |
a hundred years ago 50 million died of Great Influenza mainly due to ignorance , so far Covid-19 has claimed 5.31M , how many of those through ignorance

Omicron on 16:24 - Dec 13 by felixstowe_jack | The selfish ones are the UNVACCINATED. They are catching it, spreading it, ending gvup.in hospital and dying. Around half the people dying, are either the unvaccinated or people with underlying health issues who probably caught either directly or indirect from the unvaccinated. |
Nope, no difference in transmission whether you're vaccinated or otherwise

Omicron on 16:43 - Dec 13 by Boundy | So the "poorer" ones once they have the vaccination become the selfish ones hmm interesting theory |
I should have said, for the record I don't believe either are selfish, I was just picking up on the hypocrisy

I bet their mental health was a lot better than ours though, feels to me like we have lost nearly 2 years of our lives already! And a quick glance at the news tell me, this is far, far from over. I guess we would all be a lot happier, without no internet or tv, the thought of impending doom, lurking around the corner, would disappear. Personally I think it's time to say ferk it, let's live life.

They weren't ignorant they were smarter than we are now. There was no vaccine, so they used masks, social distancing and quarantining. Some cities in the Us used the methods and others didn't. Those that did coped much better Influenza in general is far more contagious than covid, but usually far less lethal except in 1918

There were no antibiotics back then either.

No but they would have worked on the secondary bacterial infection that most people actually died of.

130 years ago millions died of what was thought to be Russian flu. It now turns out it was likely to be a coronavirus, it took 5 years to stop getting lethal peaks of infection, although without vaccines. Strap in, we're possibly not even half way through yet.

Wrong if you don't catch it you can't spread it. Vaccines give you up to 90% protection from catching while being unvaccinated gives you zero protection from catching it. Clearly unvaccinated are up to 9 times more likely to catch it and therefore can spread it to far more people than the vaccinated.

Also with vaccination you’re more likely to have lesser symptoms so less coughing means less covid flying through the air like evil knevil.

So much smarter than us that up to 50 million died ? Many died because they were kept ignorant of the existence of the virus due to the latter stages of the first world war. and the need for secrecy . Many were ignorant because media outlets such as we have today didn't exist therefore news of what was happening in other parts of the same country let alone other countries and joined up thinking in how to handle a world wide pandemic was sketchy at best. Many died because of ignorance in some medical quarters , The Journal of the American Medical Association had recommended the use of aspirin. Medical professionals advised patients to take up to 30 grams per day, a dose now known to be toxic. and it’s now believed that many of the October deaths of 1918 were actually caused or hastened by aspirin poisoning . Dr. Wilmer Krusen, director of Public Health and Charities for the city of Philadelphia , insisted mounting fatalities were not the “Spanish flu,” but rather just the normal flu. So on September 28, the city went forward with a Liberty Loan parade attended by tens of thousands of Philadelphians, spreading the disease like wildfire. In just 10 days, over 1,000 Philadelphians were dead, with another 200,000 sick.. By March 1919, over 15,000 citizens of Philadelphia had lost their lives. Sounds pretty ignorant to me

Spanish flu affected the young and able bodied. The first wave was't particularly bad, but the second wave was devastating. You are correct about aspirin. There are comparisons today. Trump, Boris Bolsonara etc all denying covid, just as happened in 1918. Big rallies , football matches, concerts etc. Presidents and prime ministers shaking hands with covid patients It's true, we didn't have the media outlets then, but we didn't have social media and the conspiracy and nutters on social media as we have today New York was hammered during the first wave, equally as bad as anything that happened in 1918 and the medical profession had no idea how to treat covid They didn't have the vaccine in those days either, they didn't have ventilators either ,so relied on Masks, quarantine and social distancing even then. We are just as ignorant today as they were then

Omicron on 23:09 - Dec 13 with 859 views | majorraglan | Seems the NHS on line facility has run out of Lateral Flow Tests, ver an extended period this may cause issues as those who've not been vaccinated may struggle to satisfy entry requirements to some places. The requirement to be fully vaccinated is also being changed and going forward will include the requirement for a booster dose.

Omicron on 08:53 - Dec 14 with 775 views | felixstowe_jack | Just get your booster save lives. Please can the unvaccinated see sense and come forward for their first vaccination, reduce your chances of catching the virus, reduce your chances of spreading it to the vulnerable, reduce your chances of hospitalisation, reduce your chances of dying.

No it doesn't give you 90% protection from getting it. It's this kind of misinformation that's blinding your stance

Te unvaccinated are sensible folk - if they have a bad cough they won't be going out until recovered. Ergo, zero spread

It does give you significant protection from contracting the virus at all, probably over 60%, although that is likely to change with Omicron, that's not misiformation. If you haven't got something you can't give it to someone else. 90% (75% with omicron) is symptomatic infection.
