Own up, who's watching the big game at legoland tonight.... on 18:57 - Jan 4 by Musical_Swan | To be fair Red, regardless of number, even if 3 people decided to claim on a forum that they were going to boycott, there is a case to call it planned. What relevance this has with the attendance though I have no idea! |
Our lot, planning? Quite frankly if some of the parents of some of our "fans" had practised family planning the world would be a better place. No organisation/affiliation called for a boycott for the Colchester game. Everyone knew the attendance would be low. Playing shite, playing a lower league team, just after Christmas, Friday night game, game televised. All of which were factors in the low attendance. I'd be surprised if some of those claiming to have boycotted would have attended even if we were playing in blue.

You must have blinked and missed it. Real revolution, deeply ironic really, Russell Brand promoting the protest against the rebrand. Comrade Brand issuing a stirring speech littered with words with three or more syllables. All the bankers fault, see. There are organised events upcoming. Colchester was not one of them.

Are we talking boycotts or marches? How much momentum do you think these campaigns are gaining recently? Sorry, I know I pester you a lot with these questions, but I actually genuinely fear for your club at the moment, but am finding it hard to show apathy with some of your 'fans' sheer pig headedness. At least your replies give me some hope!

God knows what we're talking, tbh. Momentum? Eh, depends on from what perspective. In terms of people thinking they are making a difference, venting then sure there is some momentum. Is it having an effect of Tan / will it have an effect on Tan in terms of "ooh, have to sell immediately to this mystery consortium" then no. Tan will go when he gets a good enough deal to do so. Marches, abuse well that'll have a heck of an effect on someone not attending games. Boycotting league games is pointless if you're a ST holder - the money is already with the club. And after all, less income means Tan then has good reason to continue cost cutting. Which tbf should have happened years ago anyway. So yeah, Tan will go when the time is right for Tan. It's way beyond the stage where fan action will have an effect.

I guess the momentum I'm on about is just in numbers. Like you, I see this having nil effect on revearsing anything, instead it'll just piss off Vinny even more. In essence, those people against Tan who claim to be doing it for the club are actually sealing your fate. (That is if it gathers in 'momentum'.) Do you see this happening at all?

I don't see it pissing off Tan at all, he's probably sat there having a good laugh at some of the claims. I'd say that over time the numbers will almost certainly increase. I'm sure there are plenty of people, organisations who will claim it was their success when Tan does eventually go. Cost cutting started a while ago with the appointment of Slade. Then again, if by some miracle we did go back up this season, it's a completely different scenario again.

Ok cheers. Last one I promise! Seen a lot about the value of your club today, but no one seems to be taking into account money owed to Tan. Surely if he sells up he'd want anthing he can get back. Asset stripping will help keep the club afloat but wont cover this. Do you think he'll just pocket the parachute payments and go? If this is the case, short term the club is worth squat, long term, without the investment of the payments, you'd probably be a mid table championship club (at best) with minimum assests and a fanbase who have been ripped apart. A tough sell for big money.

Anybodies guess at the moment. Al Fayed for example, converted debt to equity when selling Fulham; it really could go any of five, six different ways. Club debts have been consolidated afaik so it's only now money owed to Tan. Selling the club debt free would have it's benefits.
