Me too. It doesn't bear thinking about how many points we would have now without him.

Yes yes it's all well and nice to let him go, but we'll almost certainly go down without him this season. Any replacement will cost us a fortune as well.

Tell him to finish his contract.

Sorry, NW5, but I've never walked out of a contract in my life, and I work strictly on contract.

Others are salaried, and are forced to serve a notice period as per their agreed terms. Nelsen signed a contract for a season and the season's not over.

I'm not setting him up as the antichrist or anything, and I'm not looking to convince anyone that I'm right, but I am disappointed in him. If we were mid-table I could see him leaving might be ok, but we're not and, clause or no clause, I wish he'd stayed around for the season.

Agree, He's been our captain, and there is no point of doing half a job well.

increasingly looks like he'll be available to play to the end of the season...

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.

Why are Jamaica in the ACN?

Poll: With no leg room, knees killing me, do I just go now or stay for the 2nd half o?

Will there be some sort of "fee" involved? I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere.

Surely Toronto will need to pay us something as he is still under Contract?

Or am I being a bit stupid here??? (it's a rhetorical question!!!!)

live announcement :(

Anyone watching the conference in Toronto? Seems a big grey area here, and that Nelsen will remain as a player for now (seemingly in the hope that QPR will be safe before the end of the season).

Nelsen will remain a player at #QPR through the combine & #MLS SuperDraft #TFCLive

Be great if he can stay.

The other issue is: why would any player ever show loyalty to any football club? Clubs show no loyalty whatsoever: they ship players out the minute it suits them. You can't demand loyalty from one side of the contract unless it's being shown consistently from the other.

Yep.

Apart from about the bit where he's retiring to go and manage an mls club, as soon as he can get released from his contract.

To be fair Jamie, you were wrong.

"It was always planned - he was going last summer until convinced by Hughes to sign with us."

Well, clearly, the club's story detailing when his contract runs to (summer) and Ryan's own comments, clearly show it was not "always planned" that he'd leave us in January.

The above show we clearly "planned" to keep him till the summer.

It may well have been a "possibility" that a club in the MLS would come him for him at some point, but that's very different to saying "it was always planned" that he'd leave now to manage one.

So, yes, you probably were wrong in this instance.

No big deal, tho. It happens. No one's perfect.

It does seem odd that we are bemoaning the departure of a 35 year old centre back, with dodgy knees and ankles, who is moving to a new part of his career. It also seems odd that the same 35 year old has been our best defender in almost every game he's played.

I hope, whenever he goes, he gets a rousing send off. He may not have been here very long, but nobody can deny the commitment he has shown.
