corkcitysaint added 09:20 - Mar 2 After a few days of reflection, trying to find some positives, I can't... The engine has really stalled on this plane and we are now in a dive. If with all the possession in the last number of games we had troubled and tormented the oppositions defense / keeper and been hammering on the door without the ball going in I would be more positive but we have been truly awful in attack. It seems we have no ideas once we get to oppositions penalty box. Too intricate play takes us nowhere. Corners / free kicks fly over our players heads. We never seem to peel off the marker to try to create a bit of space. We lack incisive / cutting edge passing on the attack. it's all too slow and gives the opponent time to get back into a tight, defensive unit. Mane at lest tries to break the line. I'd like to see Tadic take on more of an Eden Hazard role and go and run at a defense. At the moment, he's lost! Our shape is too east to defend against at the moment. We need the ball to go in against someone's backside on Tuesday! Any bit of luck will do. codge added 22:49 - Mar 3 The one word to describe this game awful, l just don't get it how far we are from the team that was playing so well not that long ago, l still love my Saints and always will but this was really bad to watch. Still I'll take 3 points and the only way is onward and upward COYR...... gpsgm added 23:05 - Mar 3 A goal at last !!! Particularly good performances I thought from Maya, Ryan, Vic, Morgs, Sadio. The ref had a good game (and I thought that before we scored) which is unusual for us. I think we proved we can play with Shane at the front and take some pressure of Pelle. A goal, 3 points and a clean sheet. Perfect WestSussexSaint added 07:40 - Mar 4 It wasn't pretty but it was probably the best 3 points of the season. 23 shots with only 3 on target tells its own story. Pelle wasn't the only culprit. Maybe the Echo was nearer the mark than we wanted to admit! aceofthebase added 07:56 - Mar 4 Not awful at all. Pity that the 'more shots' was interpretated as shoot from anywhere and not at the goal. Times we could have entered the penalyt area wasted by very optimistic shooting. Great result but what has happened to ward Prowse, his game is dreadful and thankfully his weak shot was put in by the enthusiastic Mane. WP nearly gave the game away with dreadful passes and clearances. The result is what matters and those three points were well fought for. A bit lucky in places but we had a good game. PezzaSaint added 12:11 - Mar 4 Agree with West Sussex on this, probably the most important three points of the season. It will make the 10 day break all the sweeter now, which wouldn't have been the case had we have drawn or even lost. We can go to Chelsea now with no real expectations, but with an element of pressure off which will help our play. The Chelsea game is just the sort of game where we can go and simply try to get back to our football of earlier in the season. simmo400 added 14:24 - Mar 4 Made it such hard work but an ugly win. Shame we didnt repeat this result for West Ham, Lverpool and the rest..... tsbains64 added 09:32 - Mar 5 Pretty even first half but their class killed us off in the second . Great saves by Green but was also at fault for the second. Battling performance but little mistakes let us down Not use Niko is up to it was too lightweight-where is Adel? Furlong is a good prospect but needs time We matched them for most of the game but need to make more of your opportunities quickpassrotter added 20:26 - Mar 5 In it up until around 60 minutes (well, until the first goal anyway). Bizarre substitution with Niko coming on - not mentally tuned in and certainly not physically up to it, let us and himself down badly. Charlie was Charlie - just gets better and better, great strike. Nedum's injury early on did not help us - dropped a couple of yards deeper to accommodate Clint. Matty Philips going from strength to strength. Karl Henry playing out of his skin - what a pro. We have to keep going. Must get something out of the Tottenham game. ( Can we have a complete new set of Prem League referees and assistants next season please) GK10 added 20:09 - Mar 7 Never felt there was enough energy in the team. Looked heavy legged from the off. With a noticeable gap in class between the two sides, we needed high tempo and a willingness to close the ball down.....oh and a referee without a visual impairment (again)
