I didn’t mention the other manufacturers, Honda would be closing regardless of Brexit,is every job loss going to be blamed on it? If so if we end up staying in the EU does every job loss after that decision get blamed on staying in the EU?

No, but it’s uncertainty so they’re naturally going to be more risk averse. Some mad coincidences with all this divestment going on. Not that they’ll outright blame Brexit even if they should as the old snowflakes will boycott Honda.

Our country is fckd match thread on 06:55 - Feb 19 with 3062 views | derbyhoop | Honda's decision appears to be based on a number of factors, of which Brexit is one. The auto industry is changing. Sales of diesel cars are falling, electric vehicles rising. But, who knows, what the market will be in 3 years time, when the shutdown decision comes into force. What is clear is that production will be closer to Honda's component suppliers. And, that the EU-Japan trade deal will have eliminated tariffs, while post-Brexit UK will still need to impose those tariffs, under WTO rules. Brexit may not be the main reason, but it is a (significant?) factor. [Post edited 26 Feb 2019 14:16]

Our country is fckd match thread on 08:43 - Feb 19 with 2968 views | 2Thomas2Bowles | Honda said the move was due to global changes in the car industry and the need to launch electric vehicles and had nothing to do with Brexit. Ian Howells, senior vice-president for Honda in Europe, told the BBC: "We're seeing an unprecedented change in the industry on a global scale. We have to move very swiftly to electrification of our vehicles because of the demand of our customers and legislation. "This is not a Brexit-related issue for us, it's being made on the global-related changes I've spoken about. "We've always seen Brexit as something we'll get through, but these changes globally are something we will have to respond to. We deeply regret the impact it will have on the Swindon community."

I want us to stay in the EU but accept the outcome of the referendum. I do think we must come out with a deal, though, to avoid some genuinely serious consequences for our economy and the functioning of the country. RFA (dons bullet proof vest...) RFA

No Brexit At the moment option 2 is the default. Option 1 is her deal, or a minor amendment to it. Our sovereign Parliament rejected it by 230 votes on Jan 15th. The EU say the Withdrawal Agreement won't be changed. So why will that get through, between now and end of March? Option 2 could be off the table by tomorrow night - if Parliament passes some of the proposed amendments. Very few MPs are prepared to vote for the crash-out, no-deal option because they know how damaging it will be. Option 3 doesn't reflect "the will of the people". Is that still the case ? IMHO the best choice is 3, followed by 1 and never go to 2. Quite frankly, if you listen to what Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM said yesterday, only options 1 and 3 make any sense. And that's coming from 1 of the UK's best friends in Europe.

Yes, it's possible. But, WTO rules say that if you eliminate tariffs for 1 country,, you eliminate them for all countries. What do you think that would do for our manufacturing industries? And, you have to ask, what would Japan gain from a UK-Japan deal that they can't get from the EU-Japan one? Which, incidentally, will take a number of years to fully implement.

Weren't options 1 and 2 always on the agenda ? It's only since those MPs ignoring the will of the people and in many cases their constituents and trying to make a name for themselves that 3 has now become an option for consideration. Then the EU is not operating under WTO rules which is clear so is it not possible for a single country to opt out of WTO rules. Is the deal between the EU and Japan reciprocal and if so must Japan offer the same deal for all other countries unless they are operating outside of WTO rules.
