I'd argue that being pro Brexit at this point is anti-British. Not only is it damaging economically and in terms of opportunities and rights for British people, but it's the biggest risk to the existence of the Union in a very long time.
Spot on.
Lets jail Johnson for taking that Russian money. 🇷🇺 And moving a son of a KGB agent into the House of Lords.
Beware of the Risen People

You know quite well it was down to France.
Half their border control force turn up.
But their again no surprise at you posting half truths and lies on a daily basis
Do you have a source that I can read evidencing how French staff haven't turned up? I thought France had actually spent quite a lot in preparations for this. Seems to me that everyone needing their passport stamped adds a huge amount of friction that didn't exist before. Call me crazy though...

If France had left the EU, what would your reaction be to the French claiming that queues at the UK border not staffing/paying enough to sort out a problem the French created by leaving?

Yes its just more bad luck.
Defo nothing to do with Brexit.
Weren't the Daily Mail calling for us to get the 'gunboats' out to deal with France if they didn't do what we said a while back? It may have been to do with migrant channel crossings though (which, incidentally, seemed to increase after Brexit).
As an aside, it's a shame that there wasn't some way for all those who wanted to remain to have kept their EU rights (therefore not needing passports stamped, still being able to easily live and work in Europe etc) with those who were desperate for Brexit giving that up.

Turn your Tv on ITN news.
I just looked at their website coverage for this and can only see a quote from a British MP suggesting that French officials 'hadn't turned up to work'. I wonder how true that is. I struggle to believe that there are less staff there now than before Brexit.

Head of the Port of Dover was talking live from Dover.
6 out of 14 French officers turned up, they then made some feeble excuse about the Channel tunnel.
Why do you find it so hard to believe?

I'm sure there are genuine issues with staffing after covid and cost of living issues but it all seems extremely convenient to me that some want to say 'nothing to do with Brexit' in the first year of real travel after the Brexit which now means that every single British person needs their passport properly checked and stamped. I don't think leavers should be complaining and pointing blame at anyone else about that.

Just as convenient for some to blame everything on Brexit.

Spot on. There may well be a variety of contributory factors leading up to today’s events, including an issue with the French turning up late for work and some kind of incident, but Brexit is also a factor and only an idiot would try to deny that! We've even got the CEO from Dover Port coming out and saying its an issue. There is a raft of additional customs work to complete and passports have to be checked and stamped!! The UK is behind the curve and we aren’t even ready to undertake the checks on goods coming in to the country that the EU is and has been undertaking on our goods! JRM has dressed it up as an efficiency, but truth is our exporters are being subjected to more stringent checks than we are applying on EU exporters - it’s an uneven playing field. A Brexit imposed requirement that we have been unable to implement because of our ineffective preparation.

Even the Daily Express today are reporting that it's down to Brexit. I.e. the idiots who spent years telling everyone that predictions for the inevitable were 'Project Fear'. One day Britian is going to have to wake up from the Brexit idieology that poisoned it and have a much more honest self assessment of what went wrong and why it was allowed to happen.

There’s a thread on Twitter regarding the current chaos in Dover. Featured in said thread is an article which appeared in the Financial Times on the 16th of December 2020 explaining how our government rejected an application from the Port of Dover to access funding from the Port Infrastructure Fund to prepare for Brexit. Dover port wanted £33m to double the number of passport control booths and ancillary work, they got £33k.
A National Audit Office report released in November 2020 said the government’s reasonable worst-case scenario was that passenger queues could last one to two hours after 1.1.21 but warned that in the summer “the queues and delays could become much longer”. That puts a lot more responsibility for the current fiasco on our Government.

The FT is most definitely getting more and more confident in attaching certain issues to Brexit.

such is the divisive nature of politics and refusal to accept blame for anything (and with some knowledge of what their base want to hear regarding brexit) current tories pointing at a few french staff being late for work as the basis for an ongoing set of travel challenges that I'm sure are multi faceted in their cause - covid, cost of living (low paid workers), and whisper it quietly brexit all likely to be contributory. But hey, lets offer a simple answer to a complex problem to shore up the base.
