Johnson on 21:04 - Apr 6 by exiledclaseboy | Tell me what they are? There is no deputy prime minister. Even if there was there’s no mechanism for that person to take over automatically. Raab is “de facto” deputy on account of being awarded the mainly honorific title of first Secretary of State. That was supposed to mean he stand in at PMQs every so often not to take over the top job in the event of incapacitation or, worse, death of the incumbent. Anyway, let’s hope all that ends up being moot. |
BBC just covered this: “The IoG says, were a prime minister to die in office and there was a majority government (as there is now), it would be up to the cabinet to recommend an immediate successor to the Queen.“ So that’ll be straightforward...

Johnson on 21:08 - Apr 6 by Lohengrin | Raab will be the figurehead while the actual reins are handled by senior civil servants. That’s my thinking and the sensible interim path. [Post edited 6 Apr 2020 21:09]

That’s been the case since the assassination of Perceval, hasn’t it?

The poll at the bottom of your posts looks a bit spooky right now. Hopefully you won't be doing another one soon.

Johnson on 21:07 - Apr 6 by chad | He looked terrible when he was clapping on Thursday but Are all people in ICU with this on a ventilator, because that is not my understanding? My understanding is though that when they go down they go down very fast |
Well they don't put them in there to give them oxygen. My mother wasn't on a ventilator to start with but she had tubes everywhere, as did every other poor bugger. Not CV obviously, but they don'tput you in there (especially nowwith the bed shortage) if they don't think you are in serious peril. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but if I had to bet, I'd bet ventilator. They'd simply have to go early with him just in case.

Yep. I wasn't aware people go into ICU as a precaution - the clue is in the name. He'll be pretty sick and needing round the clock supervision I'd have thought.

There is a whole cabinet and a whole Parliament to pick from, I don't know what their procedure is but it would be a monumental cock up on the UK Parliaments part if there is no procedures in place. Perhaps we will have to trust the Queen to make an appointment asap if need.
