Johnson on 20:51 - Apr 6 by Dr_Winston | Coalition isn't a bad idea in what is basically wartime. |
On the contrary, coalition would be a very, very bad idea, because it would stop Labour being able to criticise the Government and have them defend its policies. By all means let them be constructive, and not criticise for the sake of it, but an effective opposition is necessary. Sincere best wishes to Boris. And after recovery he will surely need a few weeks rest with someone else in charge (Michael Gove?).

I disagree. At this point, criticising the path taken doesn’t change the path. No one has policies - everyone is trying to stop an avalanche with a teaspoon. It’s best that all minds are together to work our way through it. Saying it’s would be better if...’ is utterly pointless. Even when the worst of the medical issues are over, and let’s hope that’s soon, the economic situation is so outside the norm that ordinary party politics are neither here nor there. We are at war with a disease, and then at war with the aftermath.

Johnson on 21:08 - Apr 6 by Lohengrin | Raab will be the figurehead while the actual reins are handled by senior civil servants. That’s my thinking and the sensible interim path. [Post edited 6 Apr 2020 21:09]

Good luck with that. "Ministers have been accused of focusing on saving their careers instead of the lives of coronavirus victims by authorising “cowardly and shameful” anonymous briefings against some of the UK’s most senior public officials. Smears by unnamed Downing Street sources against Sir Mark Sedwill, the cabinet secretary and head of the civil service, and Public Health England (PHE) executives show that “some within government are still putting self-preservation first”, according to the head of the senior civil servants’ union. It comes amid concern across Whitehall that cabinet ministers and their special advisers are mounting a concerted effort to pass the blame for the UK’s faltering response to the pandemic on to officials. Government sources were quoted this weekend claiming that Sedwill had failed to get a grip of government, PHE officials had not placed enough emphasis on testing and NHS England officials had failed to control personal protective equipment (PPE) supply." A man who has been working around the clock 24/7 and under incredible pressure to help steer the UK through these terrible times. Sad it’s taken him going into ICU for some to behave themselves though but better late than never. ðŸ‘🻠

This doesn’t surprise me at all, the Daily Mail had an article featuring Fat Cats at PHE. There has been a delay in bringing in external labs to support the testing programme, but at the end of the day responsibility for PHE and the NHS sits with the Government and the relevant minister.

Guto Harries was on Newsnight last night. He was openly saying that the public who voted Tory, voted for Boris the man. Nobody else can bring that to the table. Plus Raab is an idiot. And the cabinet is missing the likes and experience of ken clarke and dominic grieve. Its a total shite show at a critical time.

Watching Raab giving a statement last night, seeing his pallor, hearing how hoarse he was, he may be in the process of going down with the virus himself. Edit: Just seen Starmer, he looks like death warmed up too. [Post edited 7 Apr 2020 9:22]

There were still busy meetings in Parliament until fairly recently. If people have been lax about hygiene in the PoW then loads of them will come down with it.

Possibly. More likely they're all just cacking in their pants Loh. Never mind the next 3 months, the truck is totally out of control and they can imagine the next 10 years whoever is in 'power', and she sure aint pretty.

Johnson on 10:58 - Apr 7 with 780 views | londonlisa2001 | People saying ‘Raab will take decisions’ or ‘the cabinet will take decisions’ or ‘the civil service run everything’ are missing the point a little. It’s pretty important that we have someone in charge and that everyone knows exactly who that is. There is usually, surely, a process for determining that in an emergency. Which is where we are at present. And yet the media seem unsure. It’s been over 10 hours since we were told that Johnson is in intensive care and they’re still not sure who has ultimate authority.

You obviously know that there is always a clear strategy for what should and will happen in these eventualities. Why is the media is adding to the hysteria.
