WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF ASTON VILLA 17:23 - Dec 13 with 27089 viewsyankeephil

It seems a bit sad to watch Villa. Great team history & now facing almost certain relagation. No effort or sense of urgency shown by the players. Man for man Bournemouth is not that much better side, but their level of work is so much higher.

There was a detailed discussion of Villa's woes on 5 Live this week. The problems go back to the financial crisis of 2008 - Bank of America bought Lerner's MBNA credit card company with Bank of America shares, and the Bank of America shares then underwent a dramatic fall in value.

The glory days can return to Villa

Remi Garde leaves the club by mutual consent. That went well. Chris Ramsey early favourite to take over*

*no he isn't.

Olympique Lyonnais have done amazingly well considering some of their past managers: Garde, Alain Perrin, Jacques Santini, Paul Le Guen, Raymond Domenech.

Thankless task. Told he would get X. Didn't get X. Or Y or Z.

Never knowingly right.

I bet Garde's glad to be out of it. Only one man can save them now and he's at Rotherham

The new guard has replaced the old guard, and they've got rid of Rémi Garde.

Utterly bizarre timing. If they were going to bring in someone new why wouldn't they give him the entire International break to use for preparation? Now, the next manager will be parachuted into an already-doomed season with no time to spare. Also, the fact that they're practically down will shorten the list of available managers considerably. If they did this a month ago they might have been better served. Then you have Brian Little boldly promising that the next manager will be British. Good, because further shortening your options will certainly help.

Nonsense club.

They are going with a caretaker manager for now, and presumably any new manager is not expected to keep them up?

On the British manager thing...I guess a lot of clubs react to failure by doing the opposite of what they did before. The Championship *is* more of a British league, with more British managers (although some like Paul Clement are a bit suspect as they have picked up foreign ways).

Leicester winning it and Villa and Newcastle going down would make this a really great season.

Would like it even more if Palarse bit the big one.
Villa are a basket case, could slip through the divisions like a hot brick through butter.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

Next manager trough the door will be the 3rd this season , not a great enticement for anyone but to narrow the search further by saying they have to be English is narrow-minded at best, particularly when the previous one was Tactics Tim...inserts complete vvanker emoji

Makes a change for a club to be as badly run as us
huge job for whoever takes it, they have loads of foreign players on big contracts to shift
traore 40 large a week (good luck with that )
the only sellable assets they are Grealish, Gesterde, and possibly Guzan
the likes of Richards, Lescott, Agbonglahor are in for a major shock in the championship next year

Btw how badly has micah Richards career gone, he looked a beast when pearce had him at city now he looks shot as a player, another one with to much to young

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

There is only one thing worse than going down, and that is going down lumbered with a number of ex-Manchester City players.

They should sign R'SWiPe for next season, that would be the ultimate kiss of death.

Why does it feel like R'SWiPe is still on the books? Yer Couldn't Make It Up.Well Done Me!

I've been thinking the same for a while. They look nailed on to do a Wolves next season.

If going by trophies won (pre Arab); two league titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups compared to the Champions of Europe's three league titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup which you have to remember were all but the last league title in 1992 won under the managership of Don Revie in the space of seven years.

Prior to him turning up at the turn of the sixties they had won the square root of fck all and had spent a lot of time in the second tier, one second division title in 42 years of existence. Man City before the war and in the Mercer/Allison late sixties years were one of the biggest teams in the country.

Actually QUEENS PARK RANGERS are the answer to this question!

Or do we not count as we played in it as the Third Division & Football Leauue Division Two?

If that is the case, City wouldn't qualify either!

In terms of history I would say Nottingham Forest are the biggest club to have played in League 1. However QPR seemed to probably have one of the best away followings when we were in League 1 considering we had no money

Man City didn't exactly have much of a pot to piss in, in the late 90s when they had their season of third tier football but still got 30K in Maine Road every other week.
