We've all completed the chat on transfers re: budget, but I did just want to add the psychological element. IIRC one of the reasons for Warbz getting the boot at Brentford was him refusing new player signings in January, because he believed it would disrupt the harmony of the dressing room. I don't want to clog up the thread b y quoting Clive's 12.37 post, but apart from the fact that it's got to be right, I think the club has got it right. Make your choices in the summer, plonk down the cash, and give it a good go.
Don't fanny about in January with players who have to be integrated into a winning team - January is for teams who are in the sh"t who need to twist, not stick. I think the Paterson thing is a cheeky bid below his value because he's unsettled, not because we need him now.
What we also got right is that a lot of those players were not only here for the first game but had been here for months the year before (which is why I'm interested in Sanderson's loan coinciding with the expected summer departure of Barbet, though I take Davie's point about Wolves wanting to keep him.) | | | |
