Upwards of 2,000 turned up for the first march in support of independence. Not a bad start. Was great to see so many welsh and owain glyndwr flags in our capital.

Recently visited Slovenia.

A small country, with beautiful scenery, an abundance of fresh water, traditionally strong agriculture sector, all the women were gorgeous.

They seemed to be doing very well for themselves and are very happy as an independent sovereign nation within the EU.

That is because Slovenia gets twice as much from the EU as it pays in membership fees and taxes.

Missed this. We're off there for our summer holiday this year. Can't wait - the place looks fantastic.

According to the Police. The crowd was estimated between 1000 and 1500

What a surprise that you say it was between 2500 and 3500

Perhaps you need to learn how to count like so many of the people living in Wales

Ahhhh, valleyboy again, the one who never answers questions putting valid points forward against what he says.

Re the numbers on the march, I can't state categorically what the numbers were. But when you're in the middle of a march where you're walking along a road with the march maybe 15 people wide and you can't see the walkers at the front or the back that translates into a large number, certainly far more, probably double, the 1500 max the police estimated.

But of course you were there valleyboy weren't you. And you counted them so you'd obviously know.

Ah yes, the police who are responsible for law and order naturally downplay the actual numbers there because of their political agenda or something.

Your argument for an independent wales is exactly the same as a brexiteers argument for a U.K. outside the EU. Self determination.

If the time comes in the future for a welsh independence referendum you can guarantee they’ll be chucking the same old economy will crash it’s a vote to make yourself poorer bullshyt at you.

I don't think Welsh independence has anything to do with self determination, and has nothing at all in common with Brexit.

It's about leaving one union for another. Leaving a union that has never benefitted us in the slightest to join a union where smaller nations are treated as equals, and given the support and funding they need to develop their economies.

EU membership is critical for Welsh independence. We stand no chance standing alone, but being an independent nation in the EU would benefit us enormously.

Arf arf.

UK is a net contributor. Any Eu funds coming into Wales are thus effectively UK funds.

You also assume EU would want Wales as a nation. Germany citizens aren't going to be happy having to stump up more cash to subsidise yet another nation.

An independent nation that relies on a political entity to subsidise it’s economy?

What if France, Germany and England left the EU..

Would you still think it was a good idea?

Why don't we stand a chance standing alone?

So when was the last time the Westminster government put billions into developing the economy of West Wales bluey ?

The point you're making, as have many others, assumes Westminster will match EU funding if/when we leave. Don't hold your breath waiting because you really will be bluey by the time it happens .

Not necessarily disagreeing, pointing out this money is effectively UK money.

Seeing as we’re a net contributor to the EU, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we will receive more money post Brexit.

In the real world, Wales got poor cos Westmonster does not give a toss.

The nice European people sent money to help poor Wales.

We tell the nice European people to feck off as per Brexit.

Wales returns to the old UK model that made Wales poor in the first place.

Westmonster will not replace the money for poor Wales from the nice European people.

Why did the EU help Wales ?
Sharing wealth builds new markets and generates new competition and demand.
Its a hand up, not a hand out.

.. and do you understand 'westmonster' is not a single entity and we can vote parties out if they 'do not give a toss' ?

As I stated earlier in the thread.

If Wales became independent tomorrow, they could not simply join the EU the day after tomorrow, not next week and not the week after.

An independent Wales would not simply remain a part of the EU, an independent Wales would have to apply to join the EU. Scotland has the same dilemma. This process could take more than 30 years.

Even then there is no certainty that Wales would be accepted. Spain as a start would opposed to entry as they fear parts of their Country would be looking for independence.

It won't, we will all be poor.

It's Plaid Cymru's version of social justice and social equality - just make everyone equally poor (or a sprint race to the bottom).

So double the estimate to 3000

That’s still less than 10% of the population of Wales

You still have no chance of independence

Only dull ones like you, think that Wales could go it alone

Take the Swansea City deal for example

And look at the stupid ideas put forward for that

No wonder that they are thinking of pulling it in

For a country to improve. You need to improve education

Considering Wales is the lowest of the low in education

Without a good educated population.

You are never going to attract the modern industries to survive

Fords will be gone in a years time and Port Talbot will close in the not to distant future

Talk about people with their heads up their backsides

You must be one of them

And there we have it everyone. After saying valleyboy never answers any questions put to him, when those questions include facts and figures which i'd like him to argue against if he thinks i'm wrong, what does he say :

'Only dull ones like you, think that Wales could go it alone' and 'Talk about people with their heads up their backsides'.

Any valleyboy fans out there who want to defend him ?

One thing he is right about though, and i'll defend his right to say it to the death. 3000 is indeed less than 10% of the population of Wales.

Better education......let's say this is achieved. You'd have more people fighting for the same amount of jobs.

Better education, better marketing of our country, better investment, better and more housing..........it's a long way down the road.

More companies would come to Wales if there was a better educated population

Which would mean more choice of jobs

I know companies that are struggling to get enough engineers to programme their robots and CNC machines and have to revert to manual operations

No way will companies be able to compete with other companies if they have to go down that path and eventually they will either move away or even shut up shop

Trade Unions must also look at themselves as well

I was talking to an electrician a few weeks ago that works at Fords in Bridgend

He was telling me that the same happens there as what has happened for decades in otger companies

If for example a motor goes down on a machine

He would then have to go there to disconnect it electrically

Then he would call the fitter to dismantle it mechanically

Then call someone else to take the motor back to the workshop

The reverse would then happen to get the motor reinstalled

You can’t protect jobs in the long term.

When companies in other countries are changing in how they do things

1. I’m guessing you’re too young to understand,, we’re a net contributor, the EU is literally giving us a fraction of the money back that we have already sent them.

2. Did the EU choose to make Greece and Spain poor or would you say they’re victims of circumstance?

3. Arabs and Russians made London rich.

Our nation Wales gets more out than it puts in.
This because Westmonster made Wales poor enough to qualify for EU monies.

The new investment will help Wales.

Its not hard to understand.
