The Official Rugby World Cup Thread on 19:16 - Oct 17 by monmouth | That's nonsense Wayne, and you know it. Cool headed reflection; we lost to two slightly better teams that with a following wind we would have beaten. Given the injuries; very proud of the Welsh effort. Please dont let the micker win it though. |
I disagree. Look at our last two tournaments. They've hinged on an inability to make the right decision at the right time. Warburtons tip tackle against France and our inability to use the two men advantage. Physically we're as good as any and when he decided against playing crash ball and stupid box kicks we have game changing ability. It's the extra .1% that we lack. Me personally, I feel we need to have a similar structure and have a European league. Club rugby is far superior in the southern hemisphere, and it shows with the strength of their international teams. Just my take on it 👠

Dr. JF is absolutely right. A drop goal in their half may have given us enough to hang on for one of THE greatest Welsh rugby victories of all time. Such a shame but a wonderful effort nonetheless. At least I hope this stops Gareth Thomas starring in more l"ook at me , I'm gay AND I used to play rugby" programmes. I'm sick of him going on about "how hard it is".

Adjust to the conditions and referee. Don't blame them afterwards. So many teams do so. Those that are able t play what they're presented with invariably will win

The Official Rugby World Cup Thread on 19:22 - Oct 17 by waynekerr55 | I still think until we consign the pathetic mentality of "its OK as we beat the saes" and "oooh we only lost by 5 points, well done (despite giving the southern hemisphere teams 20 point head starts) then we'll always be the nearly men. We're so f*cking stupid. Constantly giving penalties away. Like you said, adjust and engage your brain! |
You are right Wayne but this squad has definitely stepped past the "gallant losers" label. We were a genuine threat to both the Aussies and the Springboks. Composure under pressure is the key but losing the likes of Jonathon "cowpoke" Davies and Halfpenny to name just two hamstrung us. Even then we were a whisker away on both occasions

Never mind the yellow red debate. Why do it in the first place. Best teams and best players make the best decisions consistently under pressure. Nowt wring with debate sir, although I wholeheartedly disagree with you ðŸ‘😂

Why tackle someone, withe the adrelaline pumping. We were stiched up that day, I dont care what anyone says. I don't think anything has been mental weakness, though I do think we've been ridiculously unlucky...amd in rugby, like cup football, luck is everyting.

Surely we can't always be unlucky? That's a dreadful mentality to have. Front up and address the issues.

It's interesting to see that our success stories have psychological training built in long term, such as Steve Peters with team sky. To quote professor Vincent Walsh from UCL, teams approach me three weeks before a tournament and I tell them that's like me giving a blob to the strength and conditioning coach 3 weeks before the tournament and expecting them to become an Adonis.

That's my point. Control under pressure. That's as much of a mental skill as there is

The Official Rugby World Cup Thread on 20:23 - Oct 17 by monmouth | Of course not. What are 'the issues' then? |
The issues would be game specific. For example. Why did Cuthbert come in to try to take the number 8 out? If he was commited to the tackle he should have been 100% sure of it. The tackle was too risky. He should have left the number 8 for the inside players, in this case the scrum half as the scrum had wheeled thus making the blindside flanker useless (he was being held onto anyway just befor the scrum broke). Mentally for that split second Cuthbert fked up and it cost us. There was other moments in the match too. Get rid of all those mistakes and your chances of winning are increased.
