Hornets on Sunday 19:31 - Feb 24 with 297698 views | EllDale | They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment. The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day. Wonder what that’s all about?

It's interesting that all these clever individuals who have delved into the hostile takeover (And a very good job they did) still have not identified why Hornets can only have 970 fans per home game. Come on guys. As that lady at Norwich City said "Let's be having you" |
Hi BigDoug, .Mayfield fan here. What we do know entered the pubic domain on 7th April when the Dale Trust published the minutes of a meeting with RAFC Directors in which there is a section entitled Hornets. All Dale tenants had had their leases reviewed to ensure no one was operating outside of the agreement. The Hornets announcement spoke of a change matchplay operations, so the limited attendance would appear to be as a consequence of Hornets having to change how they had previously operated on matchdays in order to meet with their lease agreements and the stadium safety certificate https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2022/04/meeting-with-the-board-3/ [Post edited 9 Jun 2022 21:24]

There's a bit more in the public domain as well on safety, judd. Link and copy and paste below. After the Bradford City Fire Disaster in 1985 and the Hillsborough Disaster in April 1989 and the subsequent Taylor Report, a raft of existing legislation was strengthened to ensure a mandatory safety standard at football grounds. That then was extended to other non-football sports ground with big capacities. We will be classed as responsible as the legal owner of the ground as you can see the ground is named in Schedule 2 of the link as "SPORTS GROUNDS DESIGNATED UNDER ARTICLE 2(2)" https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/661/made By section 1 of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975, the Secretary of State may by order designate as a sports ground requiring a safety certificate under that Act any sports ground which, in his opinion, has accommodation for more than the specified number of spectators. By the Safety of Sports Grounds (Accommodation of Spectators) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/499), the specified number of spectators is 5,000 for sports grounds in England and Wales at which association football matches are played and which are occupied by a club that is a member of the Football League Limited or the Football Association Premier League Limited. The specified number of spectators for all other purposes is 10,000. Rochdale Hornets will have no choice but to comply with whatever is in place at a football ground. They wouldn't be ever able to run it on their own either as they do not own the ground and its core use in the eyes of the law is as a football ground. If you look at the list you can see some of the bigger rugby league clubs are there - but not the minnow or clubs like Oldham Roughyeds who don't play at a large enough stadium.

Thanks for the detail, RAFCBLUE. Strikes me that there was a bit of looking the other way by the previous management in terms.of not applying the agreement correctly and thereby causing the football club to lose money on Hornets match days. Ergo, Hornets are limited to reaching a target of 920 fans housed in half of the Main Stand unless they commit to further expense.

Hornets on Sunday on 22:22 - Jun 9 with 3939 views | R17ALE | I was chatting to a Keighley Cougars coach a few weeks back and he told me Spotland was, by far, the best stadium in the division. I pressed him on why and he said "the pitch. It's good for quick flowing rugby." To all those Hornets tvvats who have constantly thwarted Dale's attempts to invest in the pitch saying, "we'll play on anything", fook off. You reap what you didn't help sow. Not sure on that, judd. What is known as factual (and confirmed on a government website) is that from March 2016 the ground has been 100% owned by the football club. Therefore the safety considerations under that previous post with the links consider it a football ground and all the things that come with being a football ground. We should also remember that in 2020 there were no crowds at all anywhere due to Covid-19 and in 2021 only limited crowds. Rugby League Records says that in 2021 the first Hornets game at Spotland was on 27 June 2021 after Bottomley had been sent on his way at the 1 June 2021 AGM/EGM and prior to that Hornets last game was on 8 September 2019 where they were hammered by the Bradford Bulls. https://stats.rugbyleaguerecords.com/teamseason.php?cat=14&subcat=2021 That's roughly 21 months with no Hornets games and no crowds. https://www.hornetsrugbyleague.co.uk/article/1013/chairmans-end-of-year-update- Mazey noted in his end of 2021 address that "We sadly were unable to take part in the Challenge Cup, started our League One campaign behind closed doors with zero revenue, and had to operate extremely costly and resource-consuming Covid protocols throughout the entire year. Hornets made a profit in that eighteen month period June 2020 to November 2021 of £177,180 contradicting Mazey's "extremely costly" analysis Whereas the football club lost £1.2m in the year ending 31 May 2021, although the time periods are not comparable. I wonder if Bottomley did them a good deal on the hand sanitiser and face masks or they had to buy their own?

Funny how a Hornets fan has not identified why Hornets can only have 970 (sic) fans per home game. They seem to know everything. For someone who goes on a Hornets Forum and says "The Dale supporters are obssed with Rochdale Hornets attendance levels", it's hypocritical to even contribute to this debate you so disapprove of. Has it hit a nerve? What is "obssed" ? Why has 920 changed to 970? This individual reckons the main stand could hold 2,900 fans. What is the capacity of that stand, wee man? The wee man's articulacy is ahead of what most bury fans posted on here when they had a club, but he's not far off their level of delusion. Napoleon complex at play methinks. Not very good is he?

Note the use of 'I'. Not we, not the board, not the club... I.
& this one where he seems to enjoy the glory of being referenced as 'the almighty'. Compare and contrast with the humble approach from our board, as a community, all in it together. We're lucky to have avoided chancers getting on the Dale board, just as we are well shot of those from the previous lot. [Post edited 10 Jun 2022 8:46]

Another expensive short term loan, adding to the emerging theory that Hornets is just a big play thing for Mazey and the rest of the board - not bad for £20 a pop equity. One question from me - the article on their official site is an interview with Andy M talking about the player's strength, ability, and him being straight into contention... but no quotes from the manager anywhere or even the player. Is that normal in rugby? If we signed a player and the official site only had quotes from Simon G, it would feel really weird.

What does Mazey and his Co-Directors gain if Hornets get promoted? How will they then fund a competitive squad in the Championship if the calibre of player they need can currently only be affforded on 2 week loans.

Not only that - but if the player contracts are heavily performance / appearance weighted, how hard is it going to be to recruit permanent players next season if they are likely to be getting splinters in their arse & losing money at the expense of 2 week loans?

Must have been hard for Junior Sa’u to decide between a permanent deal from league leaders Keighley Cougars vs a fortnight in loan at 4th place Dad's Army! Good to see though that Mazey has finally got the Rochdale Hornets marketing department working hard at promoting the next home fixture....

"Only approved followers can see @andy_mazey’s Tweets" I'm not surprised. It was only a matter of time. It's turning into a big and personal next 24 hours for Mazey. Three years ago in 2019 he tried to kill off Swinton Lions, Rochdale Hornets opponents tomorrow, in a planned coup. For those who aren't familiar with Mazey's MO from 2019: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/9804647/manchester-set-to-get-rugby-league-club-b * Mazey was Chairman of Swinton Lions. * The plan was to rebrand them Manchester Lions AND move them from Swinton to Sale. * The town of Swinton was getting nowt. It didn't work. He was called out for it by Martin Samuel and ran off with his tail between his legs: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-7470773/MARTIN-SAMUEL-Scand Quotes at the time: "We spoke to the RFL about where the sport is heading and the general feeling is that if you’re not contributing, you’re going to be left behind. “We’re a historic club but that doesn’t pay the bills." “Of course there will be some resistance and we’ve resisted a number of people looking to merge us with other clubs but the club has to be able to move forward." Swinton Lions appear to have a few surprises of their own planned tomorrow. They are letting the game kick off at 16.30 which is very late in Rugby League terms. The bars are opening at Heywood Road, Sale are opening early from 11.00 which means comes kick off time there will be a lot of oiled up Swinton lads ready to back their team. Hornets MUST win to have any chance of a top 3 place. Add into the mix that Mazey had his Range Rover stolen in September 2019 from a Manchester car park as the dispute over Swinton Lions becoming the Manchester Lions reached its peak. The current CEO of Rochdale Hornets is also the ex-CEO of Swinton Lions. I think the words used by sports journalist to describe it is "tasty". If Rochdale Hornets lose tomorrow then the planned promotion to the Championship looks on thin ice. Money tight and the rumours of the move to Balderstone getting out have persuaded "The Almighty" to dump his social media. Even "The Hornet" is quiet this weekend. Thank goodness he is taking a lead from the Rochdale Hornets supremo. In local rugby news, Rochdale Mayfield had a great home win over Leigh Miners Rangers backed by a very good local crowd.

Hornets on Sunday on 20:03 - Jun 11 with 2118 views | EllDale | To be fair I think that Swinton were already playing at Sale when Andy Mazey took over. I watched them play there in 2015 and 2016. Swinton abandoned their heritage in 1992 when they abandoned their ground at Station Road in the town and moved to Gigg Lane and were nomadic after that until pitching up at Sale.
