Alan Sheehan to stay at Swansea City - But not as head coach ?
Wednesday, 3rd Jan 2024 10:31 by Swansea Independent

The Irish Examiner has reported that Swans interim head coach, Athlone born Alan Sheehan will stay at Swansea City after a new manager is appointed.

Oddly enough, and although without any source quotes the report states Sheehan isn’t in the running for the permanent role this January either.

Paul Watson was instrumental in getting Sheehan to come to Swansea, the two were together at Luton Town. Nathan Jones is another allie and Sheehan followed him to Southampton for an ill fated short spell at St Mary’s. Talking on the Swans latest manager search Sheehan said, “I've had conversations this week. Like I keep saying, there is a process to go through and I understand there's obviously a lot of people interested in the job, but finding the right person takes time. I suppose when you have taken 11 points out of seven games, sometimes there's not a big rush maybe, but I understand the need for clarity - for everybody it needs to be concluded this week I'd say."

The bookies have Sheehan in the top three overall for the vacancy, and we have no information to say the Irish Examiner is right, but then again we don’t have anything to say it is wrong either. What we do know is Sheehan is a ‘real Irishman’ and has a number of Irish press contacts coming from the country itself. There could be something in that. They follow their football success stories closely in the Republic. Having said that as the Swans don’t know who their next manager is yet, it seems a bit strange that Sheehan would be told he is staying at Swansea City without a name being announced.

To print that Sheehan will stay at Swansea, and for them to also say he is not in the running for the swans job does indicate some form of inside knowledge as to the next steps in this lengthy process. A process which is now in to its second calendar month, much to the annoyance of many Swansea City followers.
