Coventry City 1 v 2 Swansea City EFL Championship Saturday, 21st September 2024 Kick-off 15:00 |
Coventry City fans confident of a victory today Saturday, 21st Sep 2024 08:00 by Liam Walters The Swans take on Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the City this afternoon (3pm) Sky Blues fans are very confident of getting a first win against the Swans at home in seventeen attempts. The last time being 1983. You can’t fault their positivity, and anyone who saw their impressive performance on Wednesday night against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup would tend to agree. Yes, they lost to a last gasp goal, but the previous ninety odd minutes saw a team in form. And they dropped seven players from last weekend. Having been welcomed on Sky Blues Talk this week that overall opinion is echoed, a few old heads call for caution, but as we have said, they are in form. The Sky Blues have won one game from their five this season so far, but that’s not indicative of Coventry City’s form. Like the Swans there’s a little bit more to their overall performance. Coventry now have three games at home out of the next four, the Swans who could and should have won by more last weekend, but then again we saw a fortuitous second half as well. The Swans have two at home and two away over their next four. The big difference to date is that keeper, Vigouroux has only conceded three goals in five league games, and the two away losses at West Bromwich Albion and a Middlesbrough, tough places to go have been won by 1-0 score lines. The game at the Hawthorns, after surviving a first half onslaught really should have been drawn. Norwich City last weekend was a big boost for the Swans (below) There is a weakness in today’s opponents and that seems to be in defence, when placed under pressure they are prone to mistakes and can look disorganised. The Swans have to take advantage of this if they want to take something from the game today. Eom and Ronald on the flanks will bring energy to the Swans attack, and in midfield Franco could be the decisive factor in breaking up play and will also assist up further forwards. We expect the back four to be as per last weekend, possibly Josh Tymon coming in, Captain Matt Grimes will start and the rest is down to Luke. We expect one from Liam Cullen or Zan Vipotnik to lead the attack. What we mustn’t see is a repeat of that dreadful performance in the first half against the Baggies, in fact any repeat of that in either half will surely hand the game to the hosts. The Sky Blues lost their first fixture of the season at Stoke 1-0, they then beat Oxford United at home 3-2 before securing a 1-1 draw at Bristol City. Their last two games have seen a 1-0 home loss to Norwich City, but last weekend they improved dramatically getting a 1-1 draw at Watford. Coupled with that midweek performance things do indicate an upturn in overall form. You can watch manager, Mark Robins pre match interview below. Josh Key faced the media on Thursday. Bar the usual the Swans travel with a full squad, Fisher, Pedersen, Govea, Parker and Ginnelly the players out. Head coach, Luke Williams is looking for a continuation in form and team news will follow later.
