The chance of it being copied in other parts of the country is always there though . I hope not but you never know it's happened before.

They is a cultural element to this though as Swanse@ is vey different to Leeds in this regard .
This is ominous, especially with the Police service so supine . Trust me, we face massive issues and it’s the culmination of many years of capitulation to criminals, and r@nk cowardice on behalf of Conservative Home Secretaries with May being the worst .
Have a great day !

Worldwide IT outage affecting everything. Also it’s the news headlines which means nothing else is getting mentioned. Not even Gareth Southgate😁

Rioting in London yesterday over deaths of students killed in ,Bangladesh, meanwhile in Swansea unrest due to the councils plans to reduce the collection of black bags to 2 per fortnight.

Bad news for residents in Townhill who are used to putting 2 bags out daily! 😉

I was surprised at the severity of the sentences for the Swansea riot. My sources suggest the Leeds riot was triggered by Romanian travelling community after children were taken into care. Farage called it a sub continental issue. Clueless

I know it sounds extreme but we should bring back the riot act. Can ping every phone in the area in multiple languages telling them they’ve got an hour to disperse and go home before the police/army come in authorised to use high amounts of force on anyone still rioting,

It’s a been a powdered waiting to explode since lockdown. There was a reaction from society who appear to have no respect for rule or democracy. No doubt we’ll learn more from the Leeds riots but I’m sure in certain parts of the media it’ll be portrayed as a reaction to poverty, a lack of understanding of minorities etc etc.

Is there a specific offence for rioting? I have absolutely no idea. I would imagine though that the bulk of the sentence is for criminal damage, arson and assaults on police officers. Maybe looting in some cases.

It was a very old act going back centuries and redefined in the 1986 Public Order Act.
This came about just after PACE the year before
It came about because if the riots in our cities at that time
As is the case now, unemployment, deprivation and Police were deemed the causes.
Little has changed
Everyone else to blame

From google

the UK, the Public Order Act 1986 (POA 1986) defines a riot as a public order offense that occurs when 12 or more people gather together and use or threaten unlawful violence for a common purpose.

Correct, and has been since 1986, but now has added aggravated circumstances, homophobia, racism etc across the first five offences of the act. Riot being the first down to disorderly conduct which is S5.
