Drakeford wants it, devo max, go Federal, whatever you want to call it. His speech said a lot but was very light on detail. It was full of optimistic generalisations without saying much at all.
It is obvious now why the Labour party wanted to give the vote to 16/17 year olds, they are targettting them at the next election with this home rule demand because they know young people are more likley to support it, or independence.
This change in the voting laws was nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with tilting the vote in their favour but maybe it'll backfire and those youngsters will vote Plaid?

That aside, whn will we hear details? When will Drakeford give us the opportunity to weight up his plans?
He has also said more than once he won't serve a full term if he wins, that most likely means we'll have Gething foisted on us...from frying pan into the fire then. Can we vote for a party when we know the leader isn't interested in doing the term? Certainly people didn't like it when we had Bojo foisted on us, plenty said we didn'tvote for him and said it wasn't democratic.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Not everything Perch ... but certainly dreadful things in ...

South Africa
Australia
America
Ireland
India
Malaya
Kenya

Like post war Germany, you do have to acknowledge these things before you can move on.

Jethro Tull sang a song about that

"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."

A driver was stopped and fined by police after he travelled by train from the south coast of England to west Wales to collect a camper van.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police were carrying out lockdown checks near the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire border on Wednesday, April 29 when they stopped a motorhome as it was travelling on the A477 near Red Roses. When officers pulled the vehicle over, the driver explained that he was on his way home - to Brighton.

According to the Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Team, the man had caught a train from Brighton in East Sussex to Tenby in Pembrokeshire to collect the motorhome. He was then in the process of driving it back home - a distance of more than 270 miles - when he was stopped.

Driving 120 miles to get stuck in sand

Campers who drove from Hereford to Tenby for a night under the stars on the beach were fined for breaking lockdown rules, after getting themselves stuck.

On Thursday, April 30, officers from Dyfed-Powys Police in Tenby posted about the trip, which was deemed to be non-essential, on social media. An image of a car with its tyres seemingly stuck in sand was also shared. It was revealed that the occupants of the vehicle had travelled from Hereford to Tenby, a trip of around 120 miles, for a camping trip on the beach.

They removed signs blocking the entrance to the car park which said that it was closed. Once on the beach, they proceeded to get their vehicle stuck in the sand, taking up police time and costing them £430 in fines.

Driving 100 miles for a beach trip

Police pulled over a car for a noisy exhaust to discover the driver was on a road trip to the beach
A young driver from Gloucester and her two passengers heading to the beach at Aberystwyth were sent home by police after the car was pulled over for having a noisy exhaust.

Officers in Ceredigion initially stopped the silver Ford Fiesta for having a loud exhaust but immediately realised the three occupants were not local. The female driver had driven from Gloucester and picked up two friends in Hereford on the way to the Ceredigion coast. All three were reported for breaching lockdown rules and were sent back home by police on Monday, April 27.

'Because their new pet soon wouldn't be a puppy anymore'

Dyfed-Powys officers stopped people travelling from London, Luton, Bristol and Manchester to the region to buy or look at dogs. One man from Manchester responded to officers by telling them that his pet "wouldn't be a puppy anymore" if he waited until lockdown was over.

Coming from England to climb Pen y Fan and Snowdon

People from England were issued with fines after driving to Pen y Fan and Snowdon to walk.

Officers stopped ten people in two separate cars who had driven in convoy from London to climb Wales' highest peak. They were all reported for breaching Covid-19 legislation. In a statement, North Wales Police said: "We despair - we really do... Please, please, please stay home. The coronavirus is affecting every part of the UK, nowhere is immune to it.

"Now is not the time to come to the national park for a walk. The beautiful mountains will still be here and we will gladly welcome you all back once this is all over."

Two men who had travelled from Derby were issued fines after police stopped them in Brecon from travelling to pick up a remote control car.

Going to Ireland to collect a dog

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police were carrying out patrols during the early hours of Saturday, April 11, when they stopped multiple vehicles.

One car was stopped on the A477 with the driver claiming he was travelling to Ireland "to collect a dog". After being reported and turned around by officers he told him that he knew he was "chancing his luck".

Two men from the West Midlands were fined after travelling 125 miles to north Wales to windsurf. North Wales Police said the men had travelled to Black Rock Sands in Porthmadog.

'Delivering food to a relative but not knowing their address'

Two men were also fined in Powys after claiming that they were on their way to deliver food to a vulnerable relative in North Wales. Police continued to ask the pair about where their relative lived but they didn't know the address.

Day-trippers who drove from Bristol to Tenby to "look at the beach" were caught by police and reported for non-essential travel.

Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit officers routinely stopped a white Seat Leon at a petrol station in Pentlepoir near Saundersfoot.

Occupants of the car, which was registered and insured to the Manchester area, said they had "just finished work" and were going to Tenby to "look at the beachT

Show me a report about lots of English people going shopping in Cardiff. Provide at least a scrap of evidence of the many English shoppers that you keep claiming.

Do you suppose that no Welsh people went into England during ou lockdown? I saw a news report where people living on the same street but across the border were admitting they'd "cross" into England for a beer at the local pub.

You always push the line about the English. Whenever Drakeford is criticised you always throw in "ah but Boris" when we are talking about Welsh things and devolved powers.

So come on, you posted links showing a small number of people have travelled to various parts of Wales, it's obviously being reported, show me a link saying MANY English shoppers flocked to Cardiff.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Show me where he said it was ‘all that was needed’ ?
Maybe i missed it.
It does not sound like Drakeford, given his normally careful and cautious style ....

I thought he said it was needed. And immediately.

At the time Drakeford was laughed at by Johnson and his public schoolboy friends.
Drakeford made it short wholly due to the Tory govt not extending furlow for Wales. That was a Tory choice. It undermined Wales, and deliberately so. A political choice.

And then Drakeford was proven correct and Johnson eventually followed, and then furlow was extended of course. England needed it.

The welsh firebreak worked, but 2 weeks was not long enough.
It was 2 weeks down to Johnson.

Actually Drakeford said the advice was for a short, sharp break,

https://gov.wales/written-statement-coronavirus-fire-break

He also said it would not be extended which suggests he felt 2 weeks long enough,

Both governments should have had a hard ,brutal-if you like curfew policed forcibly and enhanced by military a the initial virus was a war on all of us and ,as it happened, killed in war like figures.
Can you imagine such a curfew being passed in this country which would have meant anyone on the streets arrested even shot.

Both governments? The only things they agreed on were things that didn't seem good ideas to plenty of us, like the Christmas bubbles.

I think in cases of national emergency, and the pandemic is a natiional emergency in my eyes, then the UK government should be in charge.
Unfortunately we have Bojo in charge but even so, one set of national rules would have been easier to regulate and police. The devolved governments have, at times, seemed determined to do things differently to Westminster "just because" and it hasn't helped.

It was just our luck to have a buffoon in charge during a pandemic.

The stay local rule is for a 2 week period then you can travel throughout Wales. You wont be able to travel freely into England until at least 11 April as the UK government has a lockdown until then. Because of that rule English self catering isnt open. If Johnson welcomes people with open arms he would be undermining the lockdown imposed there. If people from England came to Wales in the Easter period they would be breaking the English lockdown. It would be totally irresponsible of Drakeford to say they could come here although in reality it is probably something he would welcome other than flooding Cardiff which is why retail hasnt been opened.

You are so out of touch. I have nothing against English people coming here. Just not in the middle of the pandemic adding the likelyhood of increasing cases. I support the lockdown and stay local rules for the same reason. I also dont believe Welsh people should be going into England or abroad either. My only motive is to see us get over this pandemic with as little harm done as possible.

You just dont seem to be able to differentiate to see the difference between the English people and Johnson's government.

Seem as it cant differentiate things Wales is out of lockdown and going into a stay local system and in 2 weeks time is going to not have that restriction.

England courtesy of Johnson is still in lockdown. Wales can open self contained accommodation and England cant. England has set a rule that people shouldnt move in or out into Wales. Drakeford is supporting Johnson in his policy because he has the right to make that decision. He has no right to make decisions in Wales re tourism. Only Drakeford has that right.

Do you think it is right than someone like yourself should be able to go to say Llandudno for the Easter holidays but not say Torquay. Do you think it fair to the hotel owner in Torquay that you cannot stay there but you can in Llandudno. For those reasons Drakeford is right to support Johnson by not allowing English people into Wales.

Good job the uk government paid for the development of the Oxford vaccine and placed early orders for both Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines instead of remaining part of the EU vaccine programme. The British Army helping to deliver vaccines to all parts of the UK.

Another example of the innovative UK moving faster then the beauracrats in the EU.

The UK 🇬🇧 always performs better when the four nations work together.

12 fined, 15 asked to leave...is that it? The last link is about police having powers to stop cars, it doesn't say anything about "many" or English shoppers flooding into Cardiff.

Those 500 cars, again not in Cardiff and it wasn't at Christmas either, it was the first weekend of lockdown in October. Not to forget, it only says they stopped 500 cars, it doesn't say they were all Englsih people, they were just random checks. There were a few I'd agree, but not many and certainly not floods of them

As I also said previously, Welsh people have been going the other way. Gloucestershire police were checking for it, as it says in that link to "500 cars"

However, shoppers were suspicious at the number of “English accents” heard on the high street.

Student Lucy James, 21, said: "It's crazy. I came in because I wanted to do some Christmas shopping but I didn't think it would be this busy.

"I don't think everyone here is from Cardiff. I've definitely heard a lot of English accents while I've been in the queues.

Well we simply cannot have "English accents" on Welsh streets. I'd rather be in lockdown forever. Lucy James is right.

I went to the mumbles today, I heard someone with an English accent, perhaps I'd better go for a shower.

On a more serious note. Doesn't this just emphasise that Wales having different rules to England is completely pointless?

You'd hear a lot of "NON WELSH" accents in any city with a university.

One student saying she'd heard a lot of English accents is hardly proof of anything. Is that it, one person in a story saying that and you think that proves many English people flooded in?

I haven't been to Swansea town centre in ages but I'd be confident I'd have heard plenty of non Welsh accents there. I had several English neighbours when I lived in Llansamlet. There were also Polish, Spanish, Lithuanian, Ghanaian, Irish and probably others. We are a multicultural country you know.

I'm very sure if lots of English people had been caught in Cardiff, Drakeford would have criticised Bojo, he'd have been on the news speaking out and he'd have had every right too.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
