Watkin Faces Up To The Weekly Task

04.06.03 - 8.02am - Most of the housemates are up and helping Steve Watkin get target practice in the garden. Nick Rees has suggested that John Hollins stand behind the goal to see if that improves Watkin's accuracy. It works bar the fact that Steve is now able to chip the ball over the wall and land it (hard) On Hollins' head.
04.06.03 - 9.43am - Leigh Dineen is cooking the group breakfast. His choice of food is cornflakes and a choice of milk and/or sugar. He explains that Richard Lillicrap is the usual choice for making the trust breakfast and that he is more the expert on tea making.
04.06.03 - 10.22am - All the remaining housemates are now up and are trying to relax Steve Watkin who has hit a bout of nervousness ahead of the task. Myra is teaching him yoga techniques whilst John WIlliams is teaching him relaxation skills that he learned whilst at the Vetch. Peter Owen points out that John's skills are too well honed as he is not able to turn them off once relaxed.
04.06.03 - 11.41am - Hypnotism is the latest thing that the housemates are trying. Strangely enough, Leighton James believes he is an expert on this and has tied Leon Britton to a piece of string and is swinging it back and for in front of Watkin's nose. John Williams is already asleep and John Hollins believes he is a football manager - no-one though is sure whether that is as a result of the hypnotism or not. It seems to be having little effect on Watkin other than the fact he now believes he is a tree.
04.06.03 - 2.02pm - Less than an hour before he will have to perform the task and Watkin is yet to hit three on target in a row. There is a defeated attitude in the house bar the one from John Hollins who firmly believes that Watkin 'could hit nine in a row if required to' It's Myra's turn to slap Hollins.
04.06.03 - 3.03pm - The task is underway and Watkin begins his first run up at goal. Unfortunately he gets his foot under the ball and it is skied in the air. A collective groan from the housemates that could bear to watch is followed by cheers as the ball hits a seagull and deflects in off the post to give Watkin the score.
04.06.03 - 3.07pm - The second shot. Watkin takes aim and shoots. None of the housemates are watching and they groan again when Watkin shouts out "sh t a mis-kick" When they look up they see the ball resting in the corner of the net - Watkin's version of a mis-kick means a quality shot it seems.
04.06.03 - 3.11pm - 2 from 2 and Watkin needs to score this one to pass the task. He runs to the ball and stumbles just in front.. He makes connection with the ball as he falls and it rolls towards the goal. The housemates know that it is never going to make it and send Leighton James to stand behind Watkin and talk to him about where he went wrong. The hot air from Leighton's mouth is enough to see the ball blow over the line and Watkin has succeeded.
04.06.03 - 3.12pm - The housemates have mobbed Watkin. The celebration will carry on for a long time for them all. Bar Jason Smith who cracked two ribs as he leapt onto the group and will be out for a couple of hours.
04.06.03 - 4.43pm - Steve Watkin has come to the diary room to talk to BJB. He cannot believe that he succeeded in the task and just wants to send a message to the doubters in the outside world. He is a little bit down when BJB points out that a goalkeeper would have saved all three shots but it's not enough to spoil Watkin's day.
04.06.03 - 6.58pm - The housemates have opened a couple of bottles of wine to celebrate. Leon has his evening feed. They now discuss the irony that Watkin could have won them a huge budget but could be voted out this Friday. No-one really cares. Nick Rees teaches the group Russian dancing but this activity has to stop when Jason Smith pulls his groin muscle.
04.06.03 - 9.02pm - The housemates decide to take one last use of the goal and ball before BJB takes them away and have a knockout competition of three-and-in. Leigh Dineen, James Thomas, Jason Smith and Peter Owen are the first finishers but they have to abandon the game when Watkin and Williams are tied at 0-0 after over an hour's play. Leighton James declares himself the winner as he was clearly the best. Four of the housemates secretly pray for his eviction on Friday night.
