Exactly JC needs to explain why there are not qholesale changes to the squad
After seing who is actually going, staying etc my views on JC are i dont like him, or trust him.

I think that his hands are tied when CD announced the 500k loss looming on the horizon..
So its back to being an average div2 team for me..
Still not impressed the widdowson as gone..

Personally i dont think Widdowson will be a big loss, his defending was very average at times and i think there are plenty of decent left backs around some of whome will give us a bit more in the final third, which is important in modern day football.

I dont see JLAA staying at Spotland and also expect a bid to come in for Kennedy at some stage. I must admit i am staggered at BBM and JT being offered new contracts, are these type of players really going to propel us towards the top half of league two ?

We are left with a lot of dead wood at the club, my fear is that any incoming players will soon be tainted by the losing mentality that surrounds many of those still in place. Its a retained list that reeks of accepting failure and offers no glimmer of hope for the new season, perhaps a interiew with the manager to explain the decisions would have been helpful but instead the fans are left to suffer in silence, typical !!

Pathetic attempt at a clear out!

What on earth has Joe Thompson done to warrant the offer of a new contract..? One of the longer serving players...has not improved since the original Keith Hill hype (there's no queue of clubs lining up to buy him!) and will never play a 46 game season.

Grimes is a contracted player who should also be available for transfer.

One thing I've clearly missed...when did Amankwaah become a permanent signing..? I thought he was still on loan!!

For all the criticism by Coleman during the season over quality...he's done very little to clear the decks!

Jonah seemed to be saying his goodbyes at the awards evening, so maybe BBM is the last 20 mins holding player.

If Grimes for Gornell swap happens, plus Jordon and Twaddle are offered pay offs (no other club would take them yet and pay them through the summer) I suppose that gives a bit more room to bring players in.

Reece Gray, two goals in two starts(although 12 months apart) may figure more next season ala Will Buckley who transform during the summer after the Wembley season.

OK, my thoughts.

Amakwaah: Surprised he got a contract but I think he could be a decent right back. I'd have got rid though.
Thompson: Decent enough to be a squad player but likely to move on.
JLAA: Fully deserving of a new contract
Hackney: If it is a pay as you play or short term deal then fair enough, he has talent.
Holden: Far too slow and not good enough. Fair enough
Widdowson: Judging by the way he has played under Coleman then I can fully understand why he's got rid. He has been very poor recently, we just know he can be better.
Lucas: Clearly past it.

As I have said previously, it isn't the released list that is important, it is what happens to the under contract players. If we start the season with Holness, Twaddle, Jordan, Grimes still around the squad then we probably only have space to sign about 4 players. The next few weeks will determine the real scale of 'clearout'. Just because it hasn't been stated that such and such is available for transfer doesn't mean that they will still be Rochdale players come August, offering a contract to someone doesn't mean it either, being under contract doesn't mean it either. I will hold off my judgements yet.

Still plenty of 'shape-shifting' to do yet. All I want is a team that play with spirit when the season starts.

Stunned. And not in a good way. Some very odd decisions.

Kevin Long has just tweeted best of luck at Yeovil to Dean Holden, so it looks like the players really have known for quite a while if he's already sorted a deal/trial there.

At long last a glimmer of positivity.
I dont think it's all that bad, of course there will be other changes before the start of next season but I honestly think that Holden is not good enough, plenty of effort but just not up to it. Widdowson just has'nt looked interested enough for me this season and Lucas only came here to be a coach to Jake Kean, his playing days are well behind him.
As for the contracted players, nothing a club with our financial clout can do really, you cant just pay them all off.
BBM has obviously got a lot to offer on the other side of the game, because throughout his career I have never heard a bad word about him and is well thought of by his fellow pros.
JLAA, Amankwaah and JT are all going to be well capable in L2.
Having said all this I would bet that on our first league match next season, we will see no more than 5/6 in the starting squad that finished the last games of this season. And if that 5/6 were JK Tutte Jonah JLAA Amankwaah and Hackney, would it really be that bad. Personally, I think not.

It's surprising that there's been such a reaction to this list. Every decision, while not one many would agree with, can be justified. And as plenty have said, it's the contracted players that are the issue that needs sorting.

Amankwaah and Thompson, while not my cup of tea, offer versatility and cover. Maybe Coleman believes that he can't build an entire squad from scratch and players like these two can fill places and contribute. They both have in the past.

BBM is a consumate pro and highly respected. That discussions are ongoing indicate this deal would be to suit the club. Maybe Coleman believes he can contribute to the club in the dressing room.

The decisions are harder to discuss and clarify because the club have chosen not to release any statement direct from Coleman. Not sure they're really aware about how badly their customer base view the current PR, until they do then threads like this will see reactions to the extreme when in fact it's not necessary.

To be fair I think BOB at league 2 will be ok - as will JT

We have to remember the quality of sides in L1 and also the wage budgets they have - we are nowhere near - e.g. Smith on loan at Franchise - he is on 40k plus at Newcastle - 20% of wage would be 8k a week - 400k a year - it is a different league!!!!

Colemans hands must be tied - but I am positive that things will change before season starts so - hey - todays announcements were the begining - lets give him a chance come August!!!

P.S. - I heard off the milkman that Hill wants to come back as assistant to Flicker for free with Sutton as Physio ;)

Every Team Needs A John Ryan - The Winger Who's a Ringer!!!!!

Not sure about this, but i think when Smith joined the Dons, they were paying him 3k, while Newcastle paid the remainder of his wages.

Once the play-offs are decided the bookies will issue odds against D2 teams getting promoted and relegated.

What will Dale's odds be? My guess is 33 to 1 against finishing top of the table, 16 to 1 against promotion, and 10 or 12 to 1 against relegation (shorter odds on Burton, Barnet, Accy S, D & R - but not many others).

good to see this kind of post, we cant afford to lose faith in JC before he's had a chance to rebuild this mess. We all knew it was going to be a tough job, but it's started, and I too have total confidence that only 3/4 of those contracted will be a starting 11 player come august.

Life is a game of fate.

Fair call there - but would we have stumped up 3k a week - I would say it was more than that - but - Alan Smith for 3 months - I would have paid 2 quid a week to get him - 1500 fans x £2 we can pay him and we may have stayed up and saved £500k - I am a financial adviser by living and the maths adds up - if CD was so bothered about losing 500k for going down then sign Paul Hayes, Alan Smith and others for 3 months - may cost 200k but.....

Not as bad as people are making out. The contracted players who I don't want here (Jordan, Twaddle, Holness) we didn't have much choice with. Let's just hope someone agrees to take over their contract soon, but as someone's already said nobody will want to do that and pay them all summer.

The only decision I'm irked by is BBM not being released.

Pleased Grimes is staying. Really really hope we can play to his strengths next season, if we do I genuinely believe we'll see a different player who's well capable of scoring 15+ goals. I hope Gray is given more chances too.

We simply MUST keep JK and Tutte, and let's all pray JLAA signs on too.

I think GOG was offered a 3k a week to stop at the Dale. Anyhow i still don't know where this £500k loss figure is coming from.Someone please free to enlighten me.

There was an interview with Dunphy a few weeks ago and he said relegation would cost us £500K.

The 500k has been all over the place - was on Sky etc as well as official site.

You have to question if CD ever thought Coleman could save us or if it was all lined up for this year.

Part of me hopes he knew we were doomed to save - but - and its a big one.

13 weeks at say 20k a week is 260k - we save ourselves via results - and it was very possible then - we stay up - its a 50/50 bet at those levels for the money paid on quality loanies - plus crowds would have gone up.

Heard a rumour that we could have got Paddy on loan on 50% of wages - I dont know if its true - I think its guff personally - but thats £2750 a week which equates to 40k give or take. Even if its not true - Why not try - Celtic had league in the bag - We all know Pat loves Rochdale - He wants to play first team.

Its not a rumour or more Izzittrue - But it does make sense!!!!

Yes Widds wasn't great towards the end of the season but he's a good, solid left back as we've seen in the last two years. Stupid to get rid in my book.

Grimes - if he is part of next year's plans why haven't we seen him play for a month? (if he is injured forgive this point but I assumed he was out of favour)

I hope I'm wrong but all this fills me with uncertainty - I'm doubting a clear strategy here, doubt which is magnified by the 3 or 4 days the list took to become public.
