Setting up with 3 centre halves when we're bottom of the league and need a complete mentality change says everything. Bentley made it clear when he arrived he was a 4 at the back guy. Our last 3 managers have all made positive starts and then lost their confidence. Which in turn filters through to the players. I hate being so negative but it's so frustrating as it doesn't have to be this way and we're limping out of the football league as a result.

2-0. Shot ourselves in the foot from a corner. Only half cleared it & it was put into the box. Came to Sereki who sliced it into the air giving them the ball & their forward shot home from outside the box. 2 opportunities to clear the ball and fluffed them both

Not the first time he's cost us recently

Time for Bentley to look at other options, and start now with the subs, any further delay is a nonsense

He makes too many errors. Mullarkey or Bennett at RB/RWB from now on and bring Graham back into the centre of defence.

Thought after Carlisle we may just have a chance, but it was a false dawn. EBJ seems a good guy but he just can't get a consistent tune out of this squad (who could)? Really fear the worst is almost nailed on now instead of just the worst case possibility.

Players aren't good enough.

System is boring, doesn't change. Subs aren't made until its too late. Manager isn't good enough.

Its been a good ride but its struggling in the NL for us next season.

Subs on, but nearly 15 minutes after we go 2-0 down

2-1, Quigley penalty which he won himself. Borderline as he was pulling the defenders shirt who was pulling him. Come on, let’s get something to cheer us up

Its 70 minutes and once again its time for some subs, Bentley's favourite time...

"In summary Myers’ research indicates that if you’re losing you have the best chance of turning the game around if you make your first substitution no later than 58 minutes in, the second by 73 minutes and the third by 79 minutes. Following this pattern can double your chances of turning a game around — though it should be said that you still have a less than even chance of managing it, because if you’re losing that’s usually for a reason."

And this referencing Dan Altmans stats work.

This is the one that sets us adrift

15 minutes to make subs after going 2-0 down, then bringing a forward on for a defender deep into extra time after he's been yellow-carded

Footballing nonsense

Am I recalling correctly Hill towards the end of his tenure BBM and Stockdale being criticised for late substitutions This seems too much of a coincidence that 4 different managers being criticised for the timing of subs.

It's just the usual mantra that gets trotted out. Subs either work or they don't.

Trying to look at the game in isolation: we got that all wrong tactically and didn’t ever really address it. Mellor did ok last week running across the front line and stretching the defence, today he’s playing behind a front two? Then there’s a midfield two that were neither sitting or pushing forward and it led to being able to chuck a big blanket over five players in a central position.

Our best moments usually came as a result of honest endeavour and there was little real quality on what was admittedly a difficult pitch. But we won’t stay up playing five at the back and relying on wing backs to feed the forwards. It probably wasn’t as bad today as it has been and we did keep going, that doesn’t mean we’re now as looking like relegation certainties as other sides continue to get results whereas we can’t.

Not going to castigate Eastwood, but his confidence is clearly very low and it’s unfair to leave him in the firing line. This needs explaining.

Oh and the flares. Stop it. Not sure what happens when the game was stopped and hope the person involved was ok and it may not have been as a result of the flares, but there were at least two other fans visibly affected by them.

And just like that, the slight optimism of the past week (in terms of arrivals) disappears. I know I’m jumping the gun but I’ve fully resigned myself to National League football next season. We’ll have to cut our cloth accordingly but there’s no reason we can’t be competitive. People will compare us to Oldham and Scunthorpe but they were (and still are, in Scunny’s case) absolute basket cases.

However, we go down and you can forget about being invested in as part of a multi-club model, or invested in at all, truth be told.

Remain unconvinced Bentley knows what he's doing when it comes to formations and tactics. Always just a simple mantra of 'working hard' with no real idea of how to set a team up. No balance to the team and many different line ups tried. Actually think we'd be higher up if RS had stayed. Plus there's always the comment of just losing games by the odd goal - well, most football matches are lost by the odd goal. We're now in 1987 territory in terms of the turnaround that will be needed.

When the dust settles and we prepare next season for the national league we need to try and move Bentley on as well if we can afford to. His hands have been tied but his tactical mistakes have been glaring. Our style of play remains so pedestrian. Just watching Alty and they play with a real tempo on the front foot. We should be looking at a manager from that level instead of the usual tried and failed league managers

We don't have any invention or style. At least we could see what BBM was doing. Not all of it correct but we still seemed to have a plan.

The free kick at the end said it all. Why didn't we have a left footer dummying the shot or shifting the ball to disrupt the wall. Little Kelly stood there 2 yards away from the ball! Every man and his dog knew what was going to happen next. A chipped pass back.

No style. No substance. No passion. No idea

The problem plain and simple is the squad is useless. Pick any side in the last 30 years and other than Henderson (although past his best) there is usually none of the current squad that would get in the side.

The only occasion any of the current shower get in is when a “shite of our time” nominee or one that would be now appears.

The new guys deserve more time obviously but in general this side is so bad that average players from bygone years would walk in.

If we get rid of Bentley it needs to be now whilst we still have an outside chance of staying up.
I’m convinced we could find a replacement from within, surely it can’t be any worse than what we are watching at the moment ?

It should set massive alarm bells off that a guy who's just stepped up from non league was our best player on the pitch by a country mile, the lack of a simple one touch pass and inability to even find a man in space is frightening.

Making the most of limited options:

O’Donnell
Keohane, Mullarkey, Bennett, Dodgson
Mellor, Diagouraga, Adshead/Brierley, Lloyd
Henderson, Quigley/Rodney.

Convinced the only chance we have to win games is to get some constant supply from the wings and get the ball in the box. There’s plenty of players in there we’d rather not have to play, but that’s where we are.
