When will we actually get Huw Jenkins out of the club? 21:20 - Jul 28 with 25794 viewsSwansea93

I appreciate the attempts last season of certain groups trying to start some chants and protests, and I'm not jumping the gun and being negative here, but since Huw said he'd step down if we were relegated and he's still here is abit of joke, he's hired Potter and hasn't given him any backing in the market as of yet and is clearly calling the shots still. When are we all actually going to get Jenkins out because I don't think we can 'rebuild' with him still here, how many fans are actually going to forgive him for the sh!te he's caused the last few years? With Andre Ayew leaving on loan is a prime example of how Huw has run the club the past few years, big money signings on big wages leaving for next to nothing. Yes we all appreciate what he and others did for the club all them years ago, but we've moved on since that and we're talking about now & the future which he has shat on.

Eder, Tabanou, Borja, Ayew, Bony, Clucas, Ngog, Mesa to name a few of his signings that have all cost a club of our size a fortune, not to mention the questionable decisions he's made e.g not bringing Allen back when he had the chance, handing out long contracts to squad players who weren't playing in the first team. He stated we'd learn from mistakes which they clearly havent it's the same old story every time, we start the season in 7 days and we have signed 1 player officially for the '1st team' and if we start off bad Potter is going to get the blame for this whilst Huw is tucked up in his directors box getting away with all the sh!t.

Certainly wasn't the point yesterday.

You really need to learn to read, your attention to detail is horrific.

And I quote, from yesterday:-

“Can you provide us with a team who’s financial position was better upon relegation after 6/7/8 years than prior to going up then? If it is an occurance that should be expected to where the opposite is called a failure, it should be fairly common place”.

Job done.

Perhaps you could provide a list of all the teams relegated after 6/7/8 years in the Prem?

Job done? Really?

Where did you provide that team?

You said WBA but have no comparison to their financial position prior to promotion to that league, just their comparison to ours which was nobodies point at all - although considering WBA are a much bigger team than us it may be distorted by previous Premier League promotions and relegations.

Try Wigan.

So on reflection the only benchmark you are prepared to measure the performance of Swansea against is Wigan.

Makes sense.

Any club similar to us that has been relegated after a prolonged period of success. I can’t imagine there are many, it is an incredible feat.

I take it that comparison isn’t a good one for the agenda you have then?

Sorry.

Adjusted net debt comparison 2012 vs 2017:

WBA: £ 4.4 m net debt vs net cash of £11.1m
Swansea: £1.7m net debt vs net debt of £67.8m

So not even WBA are an example of someone being in a much better financial position once relegated then? And they are a club that is historically set for bouncing between levels.

You got Wigan’s handy?

Player values have certainly doubled and quite possibly tripled in that period.

What WBA have done is to stay in the Prem and build their squad without mortgaging their future and putting their survival at risk. Unlike Swansea.

No need to wait 1, 2 or 3 years to confirm that.

Of course you have to wait, the financial picture will be drastically improved in 2 weeks let alone 2 years.

The remedy has not been put into practice. If after the PL money we are in a positio where we are not competitive or self sufficient, I will agree with you.

Until that time we are going through the normal process of balancing the books upon relegation, which came after a period of time that is rarely seen these days for clubs like us, remarkable.

Of course not. But as we have established - getting relegated for signings not working out is eventually inevitable, the better you are at it the longer you may stave it off. He has staved it off got longer then nearly all before him for a club our size.

It has finally arrived

His task now is to fix the financial damage done by that relegation and try and get us back to winning ways and being competitive again. To judge him before he has had a chance to make that happen is bananas.

We really do need to go down the conduct route if we wish to discuss replacing him in the interests f any sort of meaningful debate. There is a foothold there. But the elephant in the room is what happens afterwards - which nobody as of yet has even hinted they have the first clue over or what it may realistically look like.

Part of his job would have been to minimise the financial impact of relegation. Particularly as it was inevitable at some point and we’d been circling the drain for two seasons.

Yes, of course you’d expect some of our best players to be cherry picked and the wage bill to come down, it happens almost every time. We seem to be prepared to listen for offers for anyone who will fetch a few quid though and have £35m worth of signings on loan for nominal fees. We’d have Bony out as well if anyone would pay a decent chunk of his wages. We’ve brought 2 players in (i think) before the end of pre season.

I’m not going to dispute he has been very successful at Swansea overall. I’m struggling to make much of an argument for him over the last few seasons though.

Indeed, and that is what he is doing now by selling the likes of Mawson, Fabianski et al. How he deals with the financial implications of relegation is absolutely part of his job, we will have to see how that goes. If we cannot get self sufficient and competitive by the time the parachute money intended for this scenario ends, he will have failed that part of his remit. As it stands, we haven’t even kicked a ball at this level yet.

The point regarding the last few is easy. History suggests we should have been relegated long before these last 2 seasons, the fact we were competing there at all is a feat in itself. We are going back to inevitable relegation again, if you agree it was inevitable then so are the circumstances that lead to relegations.

The truth is Jenkins was already managing the club like a hedge fund way before Kapaln bought in, piling on significant amounts of debt

However, he concealed this in a way that was not immediately apparent, and I am not even convinced he actually knew precisely what he was doing.

And in fact he could have gotten away with until very recently because there were undoubtedly some big successes along the way too, like Siggy, Llorente, Ash, Messrs Ayew & Bony MK I

But then his luck ran out last summer, and he embarked on a string of genuinely hopeless signings:

Mesa
Clucas
Bony
Ayew
Sanches

Game over.

Yeah, I know it is boring having to stick to the facts.

Much more fun to have a free-flowing fantasy conversation, where you can make up one piece of nonsense after another without ever being held to account for any of it.

Express yourself fluently without the tedious burden of anchors to reality.

West Brom had been up and down a few times before their recent more lengthy tenure. They were on a much more advantageous footing from the get go than us ya facking Burk, they were practically an EPL club in waiting.

Big difference from building up from scratch like we had to do.

Although, much more solid than his ridiculous (now twice) claim on the other thread that I said Mawson would be sold for £60m (yes, sixty)

Considering how flimsy the WBA point was A that’s saying something.

I don’t mean now. I meant we should have made better provisions for relegation than ‘sell everything that isn’t nailed down’.

He’s not a stupid man. We didn’t know when we were going to get relegated, but most of us could probably see it coming for at least 2 years. There doesn’t seem to have been a more coherent strategy than ‘panic’.

Teams invariably lose a couple of players when they go down. We’ve lost Ki, Mesa and Fabianski permanently, have Ayew and Borja out on loan, are wrapping Mawson, Fernandez and Jordan in varying thicknesses of cotton wool, were allegedly talking to Burnley over a cut price deal for Clucas and would do anything to get Bony off the books. If a fire sale is the right course of action now, we haven’t prepared for the inevitable properly.

Wigan are a club with a similar ground size, similar history, similar length of time in the league and also competed at such a level to get a cup win.

What is their financials like?

Surely a similar club in a similar situation is the absolute comparison isn’t it?

Those were provisions. We had capital tied up in players. This allowed us the best possible chance of staying at that level at the same time, which is why we got ourselves into a position where for a while it looked like we would survive where as WBA took the approach of throwing in the towel and oreoared for relegation earlier - their performances mirrored that too, they looked doomed long before us.

Seeing a relegation coming and being able to do something about it are wildly differing things. I can see a relegation for Cardiff in the next few years, Tan won’t have failed and his position untenable should they be relegated for not getting the right players in though - they are Cardiff, it’s expected.

Who is to say if we would have “prepared” another way we would have had 7 long years there? His methods of preparation kept us there for an ungodly amount of time, to complain when it eventually and inevitably doesn’t work seems silly to me.

Tan’s position won’t be untenable, but the guy who he pays a healthy amount of money to make decisions on player transfers etc will be.

Didn’t you see the crusade against Malky McKay he had for the danish lads signing? If Huw worked for Tan, he’d be up the road I have no doubt about that.
