Don't get the negativity on this one. 4m is good business in my opinion. Was worth holding on to him at the start of the season but we've since become worse than a case of micropenis in the playboy mansion.
We've somehow managed to get Southampton to pay 4m for a bloke they were going to get for free in 6 months. No complaints here.

As I said on here some weeks ago it was obvious the club had some sort of deal lined up to sell Austin, he was obviously not "injured" and they were protecting him to ensure that deal went through. That is not only disingenuous to supporters of the club, it is potentially fraudulent to people who have bought tickets, season tickets etc. expecting to see the best players that the club have available. I also thought there were some sort of regulations where the Club is supposed to put out it's strongest team available for league games. The player also doesn't come out of the whole situation with much credit either. Both the Club and the player have treated the Club's supporters with a total lack of respect. |  | | |

Players have all the power these days. I believe we tried to tie him down to a new contract but he didnt want to.
So, what choices do we have? Let him go in the summer for nothing (people will moan) or try and get something in January (same people will moan).
Any fee we get for him will not be about his worth, we know he's worth a lot, but merely buying him out of his remaining few months with us.
Those pointing the finger at Les/the club, please tell me what could have been done different?
In hindsight we could have sold him for £12m in the summer to Leicester, the only offer, but people would have moaned and we'd probably now be further down the table without Austins 10 goals.
As said, players have all the power these days.
Im gutted as he's been one of our rare successes but good luck to him as he's always conducted himself well and at least gave Terry some grief in the game at LR last season.

Why are people being negative around this? He was gonna go in the summer anyway as we weren't going to get promotion! He has done tne right thing, got a decent prem team that's local to him, earn loads for four and a half years and may get in the England team for the euros.

I don't think any bigger clubs (than Soton) wanted him. He has a good goalscoring habit (sometimes assisted by dodgy keepers) and is good in the air. However, he is slow, wastes possession with wild shots, not great at the lone striker role (although he has improved) and injury prone.
I think the only decent bid we got in the summer was from Leicester and their was considerable interest from Newcastle. He didn't want to go to either.
It's a good move for him, he has probably negotiated a big sign on fee, so for the club it was take what you can get now or nowt in the summer.

Bizarre phrase. Tremendous striker. Not top 4 tremendous, but probably the 6th best English striker in the country. Fantastic attitude. Keeps working at his game and improving. Talismanic. Hard worker. Scores long shots, tap ins, one-on-ones, headers, volleys and has great movement in the box. A player like that is like gold dust.

Supposedly the reason that they got rid of Ramsey was because with all the Premiership quality players we have we should have been in the play-off positions. In Ramsey's immortal words 'the project...has slightly changed' - promotion this season with these Premiership quality players was the goal (at any price).

What was CA to have said or done over the last few weeks that would have gained him any credit with the QPR fans? the whole planet knew he would have been gone by the end of this Month, he was under contract to us and I would hazard a guess that he's been told by the club to keep quiet.
I don't like it nobody does but the bloke has every right to get what he can for himself and his family, him and all professional footballers are paid disgusting and immoral wages just to play football anyway, It's a curse on the game most of us love or used to love.

I wouldn't disagree with any of your points but was trying to point out the positives and negatives, why there may have been few interested that he was also interested in and why 4 million isn't too bad.

I should have included his workrate as a positive, however there were sometimes spells in games where he seemed to lose interest, constant bickering with the bench about lack of support and occasional nasty challenges,which he usually got away with. | | | |

He is obviously not "injured" and hasn't been for some time - he passed a medical at Southampton. He has clearly gone along with that story - and he told the fans that he would be at the Club until the end of the season when clearly that was not going to be the case. Leaves with his head held high and with the promise of great affection in my memory at least. And tbh good business by Rangers - kept in case we were flying high, promotion's now off the menu and relegation highly unlikely, £4m with effectively 3.5 months left on his contract is good going. Probably a high earner off our wage bill too.
