What scientific facts......?
The only scientific fact that I'd like to know is what happened pre- Big Bang ?

I can shed some light on this question. Janice down Studio 95 said you popped a little blue pill.

Perceived wisdom states the Big Bang happened some 13.7 billion yrs ago........now I'm not disputing this event taking place.......i just want someone from the scientific community to tell me what happened pre - 13.7 billon yrs ago....?

I'm pretty sure that no one knows.

There are theories about it - one being that the universe is constantly expanding and then contracting, so at the moment it is expanding, that will stop as the force of expansion becomes no longer powerful enough to stop the gravitational pull back to the centre so it will begin to contract to a single point again at which point the energy created will be so huge it will force another 'Big Bang' and so it continues. Forever. Since there is no 'before' as time doesn't exist other than as a man made concept.

But I haven't a clue and find it all fairly incomprehensible. What I do know is that the Bible isn't correct on the subject. Which rather suggests it is not correct on a host of other things, since that's pretty much the one it starts with.

Maybe then, it's just man trying to explain things they don't understand rather than anything else, so maybe we should treat it as such?

You might clarify for me your first sentence, please.

Which "side" is the "one side of the argument" that is not able to accept the other side?

It seems to me that one should more accurately say that there are persons on both sides of the argument who are not able to accept the other side.

That is the basis of the extreme hypocrisy of some. "My opinion is the only right opinion, and if you don't agree, you're a bigot" [or substitute any other pejorative you wish].

By the way, is "dinosaurs" an example of name-calling of people with whom you disagree? One could -- with a bit of a stretch -- see that as a compliment.

Nah.

In a handful of lines I managed to upset the conservatives and the liberals. How'd I do that then?

If you're not religious, then using the whole 'Adam and Steve' argument is simply, as Clasie pointed out, a convenient cover for your own bigotry.

You can't quote the Bible to support your argument and then say you don't believe in it?

Did I say i don't believe it ? I must have missed that.

dgt, some simple advice for you, which I hope you will accept. You can't succeed in this discussion. [I had first written "win this argument," but it's not really an "argument."]

One can never succeed in any discussion when faced off against the classic art of shifting the discussion, or, as we say over here, "moving the goalposts."

And introducing straw men, attributing them to you, and knocking them down. Be especially wary when the straw men [and straw womyn] come from the confusion of religion with that old bugaboo "the Bible," and that other old bugaboo "science."

And closed minds.

And intolerance -- doubly unacceptable when used to accuse you of intolerance.

And fury.

Oh, the carnage! Oh, the bloodletting!

Some people try to dress their obvious homophobia in very interesting turns of phrases.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

I see that you are persisting with your use of 'womyn' because you believe it to be both clever and pointed.

How wrong you are on both counts.

I will not bother commenting on the rest.

As long as they don't get hot under the belt, it's O.K., don't you think?

Do you?

I find it fairly easy to understand.

I have never met anyone that was comfortable and confident with their own sexuality (whether male or female) who was stridently anti gay. Why on earth would they be?

Why is it, I wonder, that women are in general so much more at ease about sexual preference than men are?

That's a whole new topic I guess.

Glad to see Lisa kicking a fair bit of ass in this thread. Why wouldn't people celebrate the easing of millennia of repression and discrimination? And why does anyone feel the need to care about which body parts people like to rub together in private? It even pays for itself!
