Zapata a done deal apparently.. 02:11 - Aug 10 with 45986 views | UPPERLOFTNZ | http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8862266/? Queens Park Rangers have agreed a deal with Estudiantes for striker Duvan Zapata, Sky Sports understands. Rangers have been locked in talks with the Argentine club over a deal for the highly-rated Colombian striker. West Ham had previously struck a deal before pulling out earlier this summer, while other clubs from around Europe such as Italians Napoli and Sassuolo, French side Evian and Spaniards Atletico Madrid have all shown an interest in recent weeks. However, Rangers have now managed to broker a deal for Zapata worth $10million (£6.4million). Zapata is now due to arrive in England over the weekend to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical. The 22-year-old, who is expected to be part of Colombia's squad for next year's World Cup finals, will then need a work-permit - which will have to go to appeal. QPR are hopeful that Zapata will be granted the move under the 'special talent' ruling.

Zapata a done deal apparently.. on 16:36 - Aug 14 with 2830 views | danehoop | Dave, I suspect they thought he was in their reach and worth a look at. No harm in that. They have had the chance to carry out a medical and observe him in training to see if he fits into what they are looking for, or adds something to the squad. If having done that they were unsure and suspect that a WP unlikely they may have decided to cut their losses. Or they may have thought another option at a similar or better price may achieve more return more quickly. On the otherhand Napoli may have offered something more attractive for the player/agent. If he was being bought to stay in the Napoli squad and not be loaned out (which was the rumour) and have a chance to play in Champions League instead of the Championship that might just attract him. Simple fact is we dont know. I'd like him to sign, but that is based on some fairly poor footage from his playing in Argentina. If Harry and Shteeve think in the flesh he isn't as impressive or quite what they want, so be it. I am just hoping they have a plan B because we still seem to be at least 1 striker short and unless one of the youth players suddenly progresses overnight, that may find us out during the season.

It's not a difficult-to-decipher article and it's coming from a reliable source that is very well connected to Napoli. And it's not as one poster suggested here that Duvan wasn't impressed with Redknapp, but the report says it's the other way around.

Zapata a done deal apparently.. on 15:51 - Aug 14 by QPRDave | Are we or they (the club) just taking the p*ss out of us? They just make loud noises about how we're in for this player or that player with absolutely no intention of the deal going through |
Actually no one at the club has officially breathed a word about this. For once.
Zapata a done deal apparently.. on 19:29 - Aug 14 with 2385 views | owza | Yeah with teams like Napoli and Athletico Madrid sniffing around. He must be a decent player. Surely at least 1 of those clubs and the others after him have sent a scout over to watch him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

if he can't get a work permit as was the case at west ham then not much we can do about it
Zapata a done deal apparently.. on 19:34 - Aug 14 with 2357 views | TheBlob | Napoli have a tendency to buy players and loan them out - maybe to Rs? Vargas they've loaned to Gremio - would have thought he'd fly into most teams,in front of Zapata imo.

Wasting time on a player because he looked good on tape then finding out he's a dud in training is a joke. It's scary we were going to shell out 10M euros with so little scouting involved. I hope the reports are wrong. No bias here, just a concerned fan.

According to Di Marzio, Redknapp saw him train and didn't rate him. One of the inherent issues with scouting off videotapes. [Post edited 14 Aug 2013 20:43]

I'm sure Gerry Francis bought Sammy Koejoe by only watching videos of him.

No offence meant, but what I've seen has been run through google translate and the reason give was that the player "didn't like it very Redknapp" That's what I mean by difficult to decipher. It seems like you have a better comprehension by reading the article in the language which it was originally written, which is fair enough

So the problem is scouting using videos and not rejecting a player on the basis of only one training session (or two) without even considering jet-lag, tiredness and the pressure the boy is under? Harry really is teflon, isn't he? Duvan is quality.

How do you know none of that was taken into consideration or that it was only one session i imagine he was looked at over a couple of days. I don't mind players being looked at on video but it's important to have a look at them in the flesh as well which is what we have done I appreciate you rate him but you have to go with the manager on this, he might be wrong but if for any reason he doesn't fancy him we shouldn't just sign him anyway. It might be something as simple as his attitude rather than his ability which is an issue or again it could be the work permit issue or wages or just not suited to english football. Redknapp is far from teflon, he gets slaughtered on here for all manner of things most of them things he hasn't even done yet.
