Wolverhampton Wanderers At Southampton In Pictures Thursday, 13th Mar 2025 07:45 Here in part one of this two part series, we take a look at the first part of this century and the pre covid visits to St Mary's, some good and some not so good, starting with a very good one. The first ever Wolves visit to St Mary's was in 2002/03 season and this was the first meeting between the two clubs since 1984/85, the magic on the FA Cup saw them arrive on 9th March 2003 and despatched 2-0 with two second half goals from Chris Marsden & an own goal. A couple of years later saw us host the Black Country club in the Championship's opening day of the 2005/06 season and the debut of one of the up and coming talents in the country. This was the start of the wilderness years for both clubs and after our relegation to League One in 2009 we would not see them again for almost a decade. In 2017/18 we met Wolves at St Mary's in the League cup, but it was not a good night and we lost 2-0. The next season we had somehow escaped relegation and Wolves were now back in the Premier League, Nathan Redmond scored twice and Shane Long to give us a 3-1 win.
