Linford Christie Stadium. on 16:13 - Oct 29 by nadera78 | Just from looking around Loftus Rd it's pretty clear we don't effectively utilise the land we have. Jim Gregory used engineers to re-build it piecemeal, and of course pieces have been added at various stages over 40 years. I'm convinced that if you took a look at the whole site you'd find ways to tidy up the access to the stadium, the f&b outlets, the storage spaces, etc and in doing so improve the match day experience for everyone. And that's before we get onto anything structural that might increase capacity. |
There might be some scope for adding a little capacity, but the site is tiny and cramped. As Hoos has said before, there is minimal opportunity to bring in non-matchday revenue. Juzzie made the point that post Taylor report, we ought to have a lower capacity. Add the Health & Safety limits, re evacuating in emergency, KPFS is barely fit for purpose. So the gain is minimal and the costs huge. LCS looks the only option to stay in the Borough. I just hope both sides can discuss it like adults.

I think that a few of you are missing the point here about a new stadium. An increase in capacity is a bonus; the REAL reason we need to move is that we cannot dual purpose our ground for midweek stuff like conferences, or music concerts or other Corporate events as there is no parking and insufficient space. I went down to St. Mary's during the Euros and they managed to fit in about 400 socially distanced peeps in their Mick Channon Suite. Table service all night watching Lyndon Dykes be the best striker on the pitch v Harry Kane. I spent £30 that night and, there were others spending much, much more - not a bad turnover on a "free" night. No chance we could do anything like that at LR. Baz is right on his last point though; I am stunned how childish, unprofessional and negligent the public comms have been throughout this issue - really, really poor from both sides.

Again, increasing capacity wasn't the point of the post you replied to. I was talking about improving the lay out of the site to make it a more attractive match day experience - and that's really important because whatever happens with LCS, or another parcel of land, we're going to be playing at Loftus Rd for another decade. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I agree we will be stuck with KPFS for next decade. I'm not sure what can be done to improve the matchday experience for the majority, given how cramped the site is. The concourses are bordering on dangerously small. Consequently there is little scope to extend catering. Better quality does not take extra room, though. The issue with capacity is barely relevant but it is a disadvantage when compared to clubs with 25,000+ stadiums. All those issue are why I am convinced we need a new ground even with the rider from the first sentence.

Also, a college campus would be more valuable and palatable to both the Council and the non QPR supporting residents I would imagine. Also, these guys need to be handled with care: https://www.friendsofthescrubs.uk/

A quote from the friends of the scrubs website: "Overdevelopment of Linford Christie Stadium would threaten the ecological sensitivity of the Scrubs and destroy the peace and quiet that is so important to residents. With the HS2 sewer works to the north and the threat of LCS becoming a large stadium to the south, what chance does Wormwood Scrubs have? Friends of the Scrubs are establishing a fighting fund for the campaign to keep Linford Christie Stadium small scale and of benefit to local groups." Would this turn into Warren Farm all over again??

Linford Christie Stadium. on 16:24 - Nov 4 with 2579 views | bosh67 | Personally I still think there is space to totally redevelop Loftus Road. I don't think there are other places to go in the area. Demolish the lot, create a new dual tier stadium, with the lower tier all rail standing and develop an innovative roof that holds the corporate boxes and other ancillary services needed. A modern creative architect would be able to create a stadium that would hold 22,000+ in the same space, with the footprint utilised in a different way. In a world of cutting carbon footprints we are still near train stations. If we need to create parking buy smaller nearby packets of land developed for parking cars and coaches that are also public and commercial parking facilities the rest of the week. Ultimately use what we have and just design it all better.

22,000+ on our current footprint and with the requirements of the Taylor Report plus the need (as it's not just about spectator capacity) for up-to-date corporate area/capacity, changing rooms, media rooms, ref rooms, club admin plus facilities to be able to utilise non match-day events?? Not a hope in a million years, sorry. The Madjeski is 24,000 and the vastly better MK Dons (spit) stadium is 30k and they sit on a much bigger footprint to comply with all the modern stadia requirements. Rail standing takes up the same space as a seat, it's not like terracing of old. Here are the three stadiums to the same scale and the red outline is the Loftus Road footprint superimposed on top. No way would we get a stadium more than about 15k on our current footprint. Image updated to include Brentford's new ground. That's circa 17k and only a slightly bigger footprint than Loftus Road. Yes looking at that and WF experience plus the attitude from LB H&F you got to wonder if this will ever happen. If owners think 10 more years at LR time to invest in improvements to existing infrastructure including sound system seating rail seating etc

Yes, peace and quiet is terribly important to the residents of Wormwood Scrubs.
Linford Christie Stadium. on 18:56 - Nov 4 with 2268 views | Benny_the_Ball | A lot has been made of trying to stay in the borough when staying in West London is a massive ask. I just don't see a club that has overlooked several local sites (Westfield, BBC, Unigate, etc.) getting it done unless the new stadium is practically gifted, a la London and Etihad stadiums. H&F are wary of QPR looking for similar freebies and are very protective of LCS. Given Ruben's recent statement, I suspect that the board are slowly taking fans on a journey away from W12. With 27 acres to play with at Heston, there's more than enough room for them to consider a stadium on the same site. [Post edited 4 Nov 2021 18:57]

Respectfully disagree. If existing South Africa Road stand is extended over the existing pavement at 1st, 2nd 3rd Floor Levels as current elevation, I believe we could accommodate all of the above plus reinstate rail seating to South Africa Road lower tier and get our capacity up to circa 22/23k. With numerous road closures in Wormholt adjacent, another option would be to reduce the current unnecessarily wide South Africa Road (or even partially close as it is lightly used cut-through that Councils are currently keen to close) to provide a bigger footprint for us, maybe even moving the pitch a couple of feet to create a bit more space in front of the Ellerslie Road stand.
