Brexit, not happening now?? 12:01 - Nov 3 with 19506 viewsJAPRANGERS

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/03/high-court-to-rule-on-brexit-legal-ba

Looking at this from afar I am wondering what's going on? Maybe explains why remainer May hasn't done anything since the referendum result, expecting this outcome?

Brexit, not happening now?? on 13:06 - Nov 3 by nadera78

Some people seem surprised to learn that the Parliamentarians won the English Civil War.

It's really quite simple - Brexit will still happen but it has to be done through Parliament and not simply the Prime Minister making it up as she goes along. It's the rule of law, no more and no less. Funny that so many Brexiters (who continually bang on about British sovereignty) are complaining about this legal ruling.

Spot on, I thought they wanted US to decide OUR laws.

Seem to have forgotten that means through, parliament, lords and the queen, like all our laws since parliament was formed.

Are you seriously telling me that David Davis and Liam Fox don't have the right to ignore British law and oversee our downside-free exit without the interference of parliament? I am fu cking outraged, We've become a banana republic - what sort of a country has checks and balances in place to ensure politicians observe the rule of law?

We'll still end up leaving the EU, but this way we might possibly end up with a better arrangement/settlement than would have otherwise been the case. If you don't like the idea of an independent judiciary then you might like to consider moving to Russia, Zimbabwe, Uzbekistan etc.

Loved Boris Johnsons comments earlier that they will make a Titanic success of Brexit. Presumably he was referring to the enjoyable 1000 mile cruising before the Titanic struck an iceburg and sunk.......ffs.

Race card>? Heard it all now. Go back on what you just said, you defined the woman by her nationality. In Law you are on extremely thin ice. I didn't make the rules or the law, but your statement right there is the substance for a succesfull prosecution. My post to you was advisory. Where have you been for the past 2 decades? Seriously....ffs.

thanks for the heads up though as I will be looking out for the snatch squads at dawn tomorrow to whisk me away under a grey itchy blanket

it's also funny how no governments ever win with an over 50% majority yet no one contests that. these pro europeans (which are in the majority in parliament will insure that the negotiations are so watered down that the whole thing will be pointless.

Wrong attitude in this circumstance. The majority was tiny, and would be a minority if considered in other terms. If this is going to work at all the genuine concerns of millions of people cannot be dismissed as just the minority. We all need to pull together on this.

What will be watered down? At the time of the referendum and even now, we have no idea what the results of the Leave vote will be. Leaving the EU means different things to different people. A number of colleagues who voted Leave are still adamant that the City will retain its passporting rights, and that there will essentially be no difference in our existing trade arrangements/access with the EU states, because they look at the trade imbalance and can’t conceive that the EU will actually place its principles on free movement over trade. And that continues to be the narrative from David Davis, Liam Fox etc even though all the signals from the EU suggest that will not be the case.

In my personal experience a lot of people voted Leave mainly because they wanted an end to unlimited EU immigration and they thought the economic downsides would be minimal. If it turns out that gaining control of immigration means serious harm to our economic performance and prospects then I think you’ll get a lot of people feeling a bit swizzed by those who suggested we could have our cake and eat it, which to me at least, always seemed wildly optimistic; although of course, everything may turn out great, in which case, fantastic.

don't delay just pull the thing out

Great scheme. Should we not worry about getting some trade deals in place? Which would need some civil servants who know something about negotiating trade deals. But oh shit we got rid of most of the civil service and don't have any trade deal negotiating expertise in the country because they all work for the EU.

But yeah fck it let's just pull the plug and stand with our fingers up towards Europe as we go down the drain.

Everybody had the democratic right to vote and the majority voted out. It's that simple. Or....we could keep having new referendums until we get the 'right' result.

Wow you are so right we have know one who can negotiate in this country at all
we are powerless and weak ,

Seriously As far as i can see the only predictions that have unraveled so far has been the apocalyptic forecasts of the Remoaners. Growth continues unabated, Foreign companies are still investing and our export market has exploded. Just because the BBC, Sky News and Tony Blair are trying to talk the countries future down everyday doesn't mean the whole thing has fallen apart. Funny to watch the disappointment the other day when unexpectedly good growth figures were announced yet again.
We might not get everything we want, but we will get a good deal the EU needs a strong trade deal with us and everyone knows it, so when the p1ssing competition stops the reality will be no one will be making it harder for us to buy French, German, Italian booze, cars ect because Turkeys dont vote for Christmas.

If I've learned anything from Brexit, it's that 'Brexit' means 'Brexit'. You can't just make up a word, tell us it means what it says and then find that it doesn't mean 'Brexit' at all. I mean, what if the value 'Brexit' was misapplied to the term 'Brexit' in what is effectively a semantic category mistake? We'd all look quite the fools, I can tell you.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I see Mishcon de Reya who have often represented the club were involved.

The backroom deal that will give the government a popular way out of all this is inevitably going to be some sort of semi-hard Brexit with immigration controls and limited tariff-free sectors, as long as QPR pay at least a £400m FFP fine and start Karl Henry every match for 8 years.

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.

Things are ticking along okay possibly because no-one still has any idea what the outcome will be - things might well change for the worst if we end up with less than favourable terms. A tiny example, I was chatting with two local shopkeepers the other day, both are having a massive issue already keeping prices down in light of the hammering sterling has taken and being an off licence and deli, most of their products are imported. Their slim margins are virtually non-existent on imported products at the moment. Sooner or later they're going to need to raise prices, at which point both are expecting sales to contract and their businesses to suffer.

I think it's absolutely tragic than anyone who has a less than rosy outlook on Brexit is labelled a remoaner and accused of talking the country down - Happy clappers anyone? Yeah, because if it all goes to sh it, it will be the fault of the people who pointed out the potential pitfalls rather than the people who led us blind down this path. Aren't the 48% of referendum voters and those parliamentarians who aren't quite so gungo-ho on the "There will be no downsides" front allowed to have any say at all on what happens next?

This is the single most important decision this country had to make since WWII. The Cameron government sh1t itself and out popped the referendum to placate the far right in his own party - but made it woolly enough not to be constitutional. The country was systematically lied to on both sides - although the real whoppers came from the Leave campaign, and were immediately cast aside on victory. Proper vote winners, £350 million of them!
I was going to continue but to be fair I am very tired .......

She has been somewhat underwhelming thus far. I suspect the full extent of the job is something that might well engulf her in time.

As for that thing sat opposite her at PMQs, God help us if he leads the Brexit negotiations. He is utterly incapable of doing anything other than reading the pre-prepared questions and misses opportunities to stick it to May. Christ alive he'd becoming home on the train from Brussels and remembering things he should have said before he signed the deal.

I also doubt May has the subtlety to finesse the EU to reach a mutually agreeable deal either and for the love of mercy, don't send Boris over there or we're all doomed.

While I am of the firm belief that he should be rotting inside a UN backed prison for war crimes, the ideal person to handle negotiations, is that dreadful fellow Blair.

I concur with the chap who said out is out, it will happen for the constitutional crisis that would arise from ignoring a referendum would be cataclysmic. I also feel that a sensibly negotiated divorce and we'll be fine in time as the EU has some serious fault lines and their banks are teetering on the edge of the abyss.

If all else fails, then simply invade them. I've always felt we let the Empire go a little too early.

Only time will tell and only history will absolve us.

In case its needed, Sherwood out!

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is about Parliament voting on triggering Article 50, not the terms of any 'deal' struck?

In which case it seems a bit of a pointless court case as Parliament will almost certainly carry out the wishes of the people and all this court case will have achieved is to extend the process of triggering Article 50 and the associated uncertainty that goes with it thereby potentially damaging economy etc.

The Government was (unless they win an appeal) wrong in the first instance but two wrongs don't make a right and I don't see this as a victory for anyone.

Ultimately, the matter could go to the European Court in Luxembourg. As unlikely as it is, imagine Farage's blood pressure if that institution struck it down.

In view of the outcome of 23rd June, if it is not upheld there would be anarchy. I think even many Remainers would fear for our democracy, as it would be the end of confidence in the whole voting process.

If it were stolen, I'm off to France to lead a modern day Hugenaut rebellion.
