Down to ten men but absolutely appalling defending by Darling on both goals, 6 foot plus defender who is not looking at the crosses, has his back to the ball as it is being crossed and so is unable to attack the ball allowing the player he is trying to grapple with, to just shrug him off to get in front of him to score.Twice.
Manager needs to be a bit cleverer when making substitutions 5 possible but limited himself to 3 by poor timing and changing the team around on the three separate occasions.
Complete disarray.

The substitution to bring Darling on was an abysmal one, lets take off all attacking threat and let Birmingham have a go at us for 15 minutes. We just invited the pressure and it told.
In addition to our defensive frailties we are not clinical at all up top, we could've been 2 or 3 up by the time Birmingham got given their dodgy penalty.
Just compounds what a failure the January window was for us. Midtable mediocrity here we come.

Poll: When will Russell Martin no longer be Swansea manager?

When you have a defence that consists of Fisher, Wood,Cabango,Darling, Lati bad oh dear, and Manning (great going forward) what do you expect????? 😩😩😩
Plus the most deluded “manager” (plus his staff) in football.
Plus owners who can’t/won’t, buy/loan, one player in a transfer window, and talk total bullshite straight into the camera at us, then any wonder we lost 3-4 at home to one of the worst sides this season. As for renewing my season ticket for another year with this charlatan of a manager, I’d rather jab 2 cocktail sticks in both eyes at the same time.
PS
I’d like to hear what our chairman has to say about all this !

Blaming the personnel is missing the point. Garry Monk was nobody's idea of a cultured central defender, but given quality coaching and organisation by Sousa and then Rodgers he turned into a perfectly capable one.

I'm not judging any of the defenders at the club until I see how they play under someone who knows what he's doing.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Can someone explain to me how you can defend an incoming ball without looking at it?
If I was a ref I would be giving penalties against any defender with his back to the ball trying to rugby tackle an attacker in any challenge there should be attempt or at least be in a position to play the ball, if your not it used to be deemed as obstruction which is a foul.

Think most who saw the game would say we were the better team until Birmingham changed things, before that they were poor and their high press was not good because they didn't commit enough players to it.
All teams make mistakes look at our third goal a gift from Ruddy.
Are our mistakes down to the constant changes in the starting line up?
Why go chasing a game when we are already ahead?
There is a difference to keeping a team under pressure rather than going gun ho forgetting your defensive duties and loosing your shape.
Most would see the substitutions as plausible Cundle, Whittaker and Darling do make sense until you look at the timing and the changes in formation of the team at each substitution.
Didn't factor in injuries which with being able to have five subs is unforgiveable.
Our making a substitution at a corner for the opposition just smacks of panic and desperation and not clear thinking.
Frustrating because it was a game we should have won at a canter.

What is truly disheartening was Latibeaudiere, Cabango and Wood were all playing really well and we were in control until the substitutions .. Darling in particular. Not only did the back line lose shape but he was lost and weak.
Cundle was atrocious, Whittaker effectively rook himself out of the game by living off-side.
But what on earth possessed Martin to use the three sub events on just three players? Especially as Fish (out of water) was on a yellow?
If he was closing the game out by defending surely you bring on on Naughton for his experience.

Poll: Should the summer transfer window close before the season starts?

Especially as we are paying for a specialist set piece coach.
Bring back Sousa.

Swansea City v Birmingham City 2022/23 Matchday Thread on 08:19 - Feb 5 by vetchonian

what have the owners got to do with yesterdays shambles.....
Maybe having seen the results of listening to Martin and signing Darling and Fisher neither of whom have shone since arriving and in fact are no longer automatic picks decided not to waste any more cash.
I'm no fan of our owners but they appear to be keeping us in a healthy financial position....maybe to make it easier for them to sell but at least we have not encountered the same freefall we saw last time we fell out of the top tier.
I'm not revelling in yesterdays loss...I'm still angry the total mismanagement in the second half is indicative of Martin's reign ....as I said I was actually full of praise at 4pm tginking he had learnt how fooled I was.
Darling for me was a waste of money whilst he looks great with the ball at his feet going forward for a 6foot central defender his defensive qualities are suspect....I dont see him turning a profit in selling on

It wasn't your post I was referencing ?
The post I did refer to was the one who mentioned the owners ?

Whittaker was taken out of the game by the removal of Piroe and the shifting of Cooper. There couldn't have been a Swansea player within 30 yards of him for most of the game after that.

We've seen it happen time and again with Piroe this season. The only player I can think of even remotely capable of doing a job like that would have been prime Wilf.

Set piece coach should teach the basics first, attack the ball while defending to ensure you get to the ball first, can't do that with your back to the ball.
While attacking put the ball into a space where movement will create space to attack the ball, five attacking players standing still in the six yard box doesn't create space especially when they are your tallest players against equally tall defenders.
Set piece coach should teach goalie not to kick the ball continuously to their left back who was one of their tallest players and defensively wasn't bothered all game

Nah mum.
A keeper ( on loan I think ) from abroad.
Think he played three games ?

EDIT: My mistake sorry.
Just watched it on you Tube and they mentioned Potter.
Always thought it was a loan keeper

That was the keeper I was thinking of, but he didn't play against Stockport that night.
Always thought he did.
Sure he was on our books at that time though ?
Just checked and he signed in the following season ( 76/77 )
